Summary
While we wait for the second installment of Season 4 of Bridgerton, I seem to have written a version of Benedict’s story that is… somewhat less gentle.
There will be no Sophie in this fic. So don’t send me hate comments about that. I really do like her but Benedict ending up with a boy was more plausible for me. And it just popped up after reading something’s about the Napoleontic war.
Instead, this is a more historically grounded and therefore more complicated, Cinderella tale. War has consequences. Beauty has currency. Patronage is rarely innocent. And love, when it appears, must navigate all of that. I do condone war, disciplining and abusing people especially minors but history was grim and I do thing it can teach us to prevent misery in the future.
I was thinking about this story and why it’s gripping me at the moment. The fundamental theme is about the ability to trust and love again after deep trauma. So the tags are heavy, the message is hopeful.
Jamie and Anthony are not abandoned. Their story continues. This is simply another thread in the same world, darker, perhaps, but no less romantic.
