'Honey, I'm home!' Jackie calls out cheerily as she enters the condo, kicking off her heels. She debates removing her blazer but decides to keep her pantsuit - blazer and slacks and t shirt - intact.
It's a small thing on the outskirts of Providence, close enough to the city to be useful and small enough to be cheap, and Jackie was proud that at only twenty-five, she and her wife co-owned it without a mortgage.
Not that Shauna was her wife, in the most literal sense of the word. They couldn't get married yet legally. They hoped to do it eventually. But for now, they had the titles.
Shauna was where she usually was at this time of the day. In the kitchen, stirring something in a pot on the stove, wearing the pink frilly apron Jackie had bought for herself only to realise that she couldn't cook for shit.
And today, Shauna was only wearing the apron.
