Chapter Text
It had been a long day for hackreign’s act. Fumbled jokes, poor crowd, “the usual” as he would say. But today, there was a second act. The boss had finally gotten his dream bull riding Arena or whatnot and with that he needed a ‘new face’, RodeoJack. Hack was fairly familiar with the cowboy, they had met a long while ago at a..clown..convention? Hack honestly didn't know what to really call it but the boss was adamant about how they just needed to go, but Hack didn't speak to Jack at the time and he can now.
Hack set his props onto his vanity and made his way to the Arena finding his way to the boss and sitting down.
“Heyyy Hacky! Finally come to see the new guy!?” the boss nudged at him, his smile wide.
“Yeah, I don't see why not.” Hack nods and stares forward and spots Jack.
Jack was a relatively tall man with a very blue scheme. There was barely any variety compared to Hack outfit which was a mix of purples, reds, and yellows. As the show began Jack was praised by the crowd as he did various tricks and dances. The reactions were so different, Hacks eyebrows furrowed as he stared more intently at the tall man.
Rodeo Jack spots Hack and picks a rose from his pockets and throws it at him winking playfully. “What the hell?” he murmurs to himself.
“Eyyy, it seems like he wants you to come to the arena! Go for it!” the boss places his arm around him pointing at the obvious man in front of them.
Jack motions a ‘come hither” at Hack. Hack wanted to see what he’s got so without much hesitation he brought himself to the arena taking a bow for the crowd solemnly. Jack bring a barrel and points for Hack to get inside and Hack complies hopping in. Jack whips out three daggers and throws them at the barrel in three specific planned spots causing red liquid to shoot out, Hack plays along acting as if it’s painful and alas, he goes limp as he sticks his tongue off to symbolize …death! The crowd roars and hack steps out beside Jack and they bow their heads and their hands go out as they take their hats off. And the lights in the arena go off as the two run off stage.
“Wow, friend! That was real fun, we ought to do that again eh?” Jack speaks finally, supposedly the lack of the mouth would've stopped him from speaking, what do you know?
“Eh,,, sure.. Maybe.” Hackreign tugs on his collar looking the other way. “So- eh.. How do you get them so riled up?”
“What? Ohhh! I'm actually not really sure, they just.. Go crazy! Haha! Your shows gotta be boring if this is how they respond to a second act.” Jack laughs, laying a hand on hacks shoulder.
Hack stays silent, unsure of what exactly to say, I mean he’s right. His show is…boring. His whole thing is to say stupid jokes and every now and then to some overused bit.
“Oh, no. I didn't mean it like that! Sorry sorry, i-” Jack removes his hand and starts to mess with his fingers
“No, you're fine. It's my thing, not a fan of it but.. It's my thing to be shitty.” he rubs the back of his head with his hands and awkwardly laughs at himself.
Despite everything Hack can't help but dislike Jack a little bit, the fact that he is so much better than he ever will fuels him with such anger. But it would be unjust to just disapprove of him for that, that's not his fault. But it angers him nonetheless.
“Hey! If you want, we can go to the bar nearby. I want to get to know you better, considering we’ll be working together!” Jack takes his hat off and holds it against his chest, his eyes beckoning for him.
Hack stares at the ground deep in thought, “Hm, yeah sure. That sounds fine.” he nods.
