"It's Not Fair How Much I Love You"

Summary:

Inspired by the song “Fair” by The Amazing Devil.

With Dark Enchantress Cookie free from her darkness, Red Velvet Cookie has spent a lot of time trying to settle into more of a domestic life in the Cookie Kingdom. Alongside his new found love in his former enemy, Pastry Cookie. Who had fled from her life with the St. Pastry Order after its collapse. Together they are learning to let go of the instinct that allowed them to lead with their violence than compassion. Hanging them up for another day as they enjoy the softer things in life. Especially each other.

Notes:

AHHH!!! I love this ship so much. I don’t know why people hated it back during the beginning of Cookie Run Kingdom. I thought they were so cute together and had so much potential. And I can’t find any good fanfiction of them so I’m going to write my own. Very canon divergent and self indulgent but isn’t that in the spirit of fanfiction? <3

Work Text:

Darkness stretched across the room, consuming it. Shadows wandering the walls as if they were city streets. Scratching against the wooden floor as a creature walked across. Slowly pushing the door open. Loud creaking echoed through the silence. Creeping in as it approached the bed on the opposite side of the room. It crouched down, stalking its prey. Before lunging and landing into the pile of sheets. Squirming and disrupting the peace. Attempting to tear away the blanket as a clawed hand flew out from under it. The owner of it was startled from his sleep, sitting up in a rush. Black and red hair uncircled the figure’s head like a lion’s mane. Cold blue eyes staring wide as it flickered around through the dark. Though they suddenly came to a pause as he looked down at the small creature sitting in his lap. Starry eyed and adoration filled in them. He sighed as his eyes softened at the sight of the creature. Bringing up his less monstrous hand to pet the hound.

“Good Morning Chiffon,” muttered the cookie.

The cream cake hound yipped happily and rubbed against his owner’s palm before jumping up to lick his face. The cookie laughed softly, his voice deeper due to still being tired. As he tried to calm his pet down from his excitement, the bedroom door creaked open once more. The cookie looked up quickly and tensely. As if expecting an intruder of some sorts. Though his sharp blue eyes met a softer toned pair. His unlikely other half stood in the doorway with a mug of tea cupped in her hands. Her pale lilac hair falling loosely around her shoulders like curly feathers. A contrast to the tight and formal bun it was always in. A yawn escaped her lips as she walked over to his side of the bed.

“Apologize for not stopping him, Red Velvet, he had run off before I could take the kettle off the stove,” she spoke, sitting on the edge of the bed and handing the mug to him.

“It is quite alright, Pastry, I simply wasn’t expecting a surprise attack so early in the day,” he chuckled, accepting the mug and bringing it up to his lips as his freehand petting Chiffon.

“Actually, it’s quite late,” proclaimed Pastry Cookie, pushing a strand of gold hair out of her face.

“Oh?” hummed the black and red haired cookie, arching one of his brows.

Pastry Cookie nodded and stood up from the bedside. Walking across the room towards the curtains before pulling one back. The morning light flashed across the dark room, chasing away the darkness and shadows back into their hiding places. As reflective surfaces glimmered and glowed. Red Velvet brought his larger hand up to block the sun from directly shining in his eyes.

“Ah, I see,” he remarked, in what seemed like a joke.

A faint smirk crossed Pastry’s lips before disappearing as quickly as it came. She walked over to the nearby dresser and opened one of the drawers. While she looked through it, Red Velvet admired her from his place as he drank. She is in everyday attire, though without her headdress and the shawl with the Order’s symbol. Her lilac hair was down as well, the faint golden curls twirling and shining disobediently in the light. Though Pastry had yet to care for them as she pulled out a comb and brush from the drawer. Closing it with a hip bump, she returned back to the bed. Climbing in and taking her place on the opposite side. Carefully lifting one of the long strands of Red Velvet’s hair and running the brush through it. Attempting to tame his messy mane of bed head. A smile crossed his lips, resting his mug in his lap.

“Early rising as always” he purred, closing his eyes as he felt Pastry do his hair, “Where the hounds good to you?”

“Somewhat, I allowed them to run around freely for the morning while I prepared their food, there was no fuss there, it was just getting them back to their grounds that was difficult,” sighed Pastry, “I honestly do not know how you or that Werehound friend of yours does it,”

“Well it's a bond forged through time, shared hardship and equal understanding” expressed Red Velvet.

“How poetic you make it sounds,” commented Pastry.

“It’s not, really, just being honest, the hounds are much more than the mischievous creatures they appear to be,” Red Velvet stated, looking down at Chiffon in his lap, “At least to me, they are my companions, those who I have been connected with for a long time.

The small cream cake hound looked up at him, content and bright eyed. His little whipped tail thumped against his thigh as he barked. A gentle smile came across Red Velvet as he petted under Chiffon’s chin. Panting happily, Chiffon relaxed into the cookie’s touch. A long stretch of silence was shared between the three of them. The only sounds being comb and brush running through Red Velvet’s hair and the quiet sips that he took from the mug. It was long emptied when Pastry let out a tired sigh, setting the items in her hand aside.

“All done,” she proclaimed, sliding out from behind him and off the bed to stand in front of him, “So much hair to be cared for,”

“You know you do not have to do that every morning, I can manage it myself,” proclaimed Red Velvet, setting his mug aside before leaning back on his palm.

“Yes but I like to, makes the morning easier for you,” nodded Pastry, pushing a strand of his hair back and cupping his cheek, “Keeps us…connected, since I am quite busy most of the morning,”

She stared into his eyes for a moment. It didn’t take much thinking for Red Velvet to understand her casual words. He carefully placed Chiffon onto the pillow before resting his hands on her hips, though being mindful of his more sharper one. Pulling her in so she stood between his legs as he rested his chin on her chest as he looked up at her. Eyes softening to a loving look as Pastry started to gently card her fingers through his now detangled hair with ease. His thumbs rubbing small circles into the fabric of her long skirt. Pastry shook her head before leaning down and resting her lips on his forehead. Red Velvet shut his eyes slowly, expecting a kiss as soft as a blue bird’s feathers. Though before she did so, she whispered softly against his skin.

“It’s not fair…,” she huffed, pressing her lips against the space between his brows, “it's not fair how much I love you”.

Red Velvet chuckled as he opened one of his eyes to look up as she stood back straight up. He guided his hand up to gently massage the furrow in her brows to relax her crossed expression. He then used his larger hand to pull her closer and down onto the bed with him. Guiding her down to lay on her back into the mattress and pillows. Contrasting the rough and sometimes even violently passionate throwing of one another from the past. Hovering over her form without pining her. Just a loose and light touch of her face. The half-cake cookie leaned over to press his own kiss against her features. Multiple really. His scarred lips soft against her tender skin. Feeling her get warm. He laughed faintly as he let her up for air, his voice still a bit heavy from waking up.

“How unreasonable you speak sometimes,” he quipped, as the lilac haired woman met his eyes with a ghost of a pout, “Though if your love is unfair, then my love is truly unreasonable from how much of it there is,”

Pastry let out a scoff as she sat up on her elbows.

“I think you are spending too much time listening to bards of this kingdom,” she retorted.

This time, Red Velvet let out a proper loud laugh. Rolling onto his back beside her as he covered his eyes. Chiffon yipped from his place on the pillow before wiggling himself over to Red Velvet. Pastry shook her head with faux disappointment at the display before she turned to rest on her side closer to him. Pull Chiffon to rest between the two cookies. The small cake hound barked to argue but quickly became agreeable once he found a comfortable position. Curling into a ball with his snout pressed against Pastry’s arm. She rubbed behind his tinted ears while waiting for Red Velvet to settle down from his laughing. Which wasn’t too long. Though she enjoyed it. She enjoyed this. The domesticated moments in life away from the horrors and traumas that plagued them through their existence. Peace without worrying of training armies or committing oneself to tight indoctrinating rules. Just contentment in the late morning hours as fledgling lovers stared silently and wistfully into each other’s eyes. Even if chores did need to be done, there was no race nor rush. The whole cookie world could wait just another hour or two for them.

Notes:

I miss writing fanfics. This is me slowly getting back into it because I had this sitting in my Google drive for a long time.
