Work Text:

After some time searching, Wednesday finally finds Enid and takes her back to Nevermore to collect her things. Shed be staying with her until classes restarted. Enid had been quiet all the way back, but once they were at Ophelia Hall, her whole mood changed. She sighed as she saw their familiar window...

Wednesday stood by admiring Enid like she was made by Selene herself and finally initiates a hug, feeling Enid melt into it. She says nothing as Enid nuzzles her nose into the nook of her neck, and her arms tighten around her, and she closes her eyes, enjoying the embrace.

She says nothing as she feels Enid’s fingers clutching into her jacket, hearing how the fabric rips between the wolf’s formidable claws, now prickling at her skin.

After what seemed an eternity in each other’s arms, Wednesday finally spoke. “It is ok, Enid. You are safe now.”

Enid just nodded in Wednesday's hold, “I know.”

“You are home now. Nothing and no one will hurt you here, ever.”

Enid pulled away just enough to look at Wednesday’s face.

“I promise to keep you safe, Enid. Even if I have to lock you in the sanctuary of our dorm…our…home.”

Enid chuckled through unknown tears, “No, Wednesday…No more hiding.”

Wednesday frowned. She knew she had to protect Enid more than anyone in the world, and she wouldn’t let anything happen to her because of her anymore, but when she tried to refute, Enid’s index landed on her lips, sealing them silent.

“And I won’t stay locked up like a princess in a tower. Not anymore. Keeping you out of trouble is my top priority…” Enid smiled. The sacrifice of humanity was evidence enough. “Besides, this isn’t my home…you are…” She tilted Wednesday's chin up as she slowly met her halfway, pausing, giving her a chance to pull away…and she didn’t…

Wednesday’s eyes flickered to Enid’s lips and back, pulling her lightly down by the neck, closing her eyes and letting go…

Enid’s warmth had spread through her body in that single first kiss and made home in her heart.
