'What's happening?'

'Why's the light flickering?'

Present:
Walking down that path, a few more steps in front of your house. You sigh. After finding out why you're at the hospital. About the results. You almost died alone in your car, maybe a couple of miles away from Jinx's childhood home.
Luckily, someone almost ran over where your car was under the thick and heavy white snow. That they got to call for help while it was still snowing. And now, your mind is running at 100 miles per hour, processing all the information and decisions you have to make.
'It's okay. I can do this. The semester is almost over. I earned a lot but I think I need to take a loan to cover everything. And most importantly, Jinx doesn't have to know all of this. I can handle this.'
Now standing infront the door, you made a mental note to start looking for a place to rent so that Jinx doesn't have to bother about you. As you push it open and gently shut it off as you enter. You already feel that she's standing there, beaming in anger.
"Where the hell were you?! You have a goddamn phone. You should have, gee, I don't know, informed me?!"
Sometimes, you're wondering if this is even the same Jinx you fell for. Or maybe, she's finally showing her true colours? Or perhaps, she had enough of you now that she can finally be with someone destined for her and you're just the baggage.
"I got lost and my phone died. I had to take shelter because the car got stuck. And I actually need to retrieve it too. I'm so sorry I made you worry."
"You left it behind! Ugh, why are you like this?"
"I'll get the car tomorrow. Okay? For now, let me rest."
"We don't have any food. And you're letting me starve?"
"I already ordered your food. Can you at least get it when it arrives? I really need to rest."
"Whatever." Her final say as she stormed back to her den. Sighing, as you get yourself a bottle of water and right on time, you hear the door. After a few words with the delivery guy, you prepared it on the island, leaving it with a cover so that if she wanted to eat she could. You went to your room, took a bath and lay on your bed.
The next morning, you didn't get much sleep since there are a lot of things in your brain so to clear your mind, you prepare breakfast. Then you heard the click of her door.
"Hey, I made breakfast. We can-" she cut you off.
"I'm going out. Ekko invited me to Burger King." She said not even looking at you nor the food spread out as she fixed her jacket, put on her headphones and went out slamming the front door.
You hang your head low, looking at the food that seems gone blurry as unwanted tears try to escape but then a heap of air as you cough uncontrollably, you turn to the sink and gasp as you see spots of blood. You immediately cleaned up your mess, and even threw all of the food that was left exposed because you know your illness is airborne and probably already went through the food. You wore a mask and some gloves as you threw the garbage outside. And went back trying to disinfect the place as you internally panicking because there's no way you wanted Jinx to get sick too. So you contacted a specialised cleaning service to disinfect the whole house in hopes that Jinx won't caught on your illness.
After meeting the people and letting them do their job, you went out to hunt down a one-bedroom apartment so you can move out as fast as you can.

It's been two weeks since your argument and the silent treatment doesn't fade. She keeps on ignoring you, in the little time you two catch up, existing in the same space yet she treats you like nothing. Looking at her as she went out to see Ekko like always, you did your final job.

Third person's point of view
That night, Jinx crashes in Ekko's dorm room for the nth time. They were watching a movie till she fell asleep, then, a loud booming sound startled her. And the image of her partner flashes before her eyes.
Gasping for air as she got spooked, Ekko immediately went for aid.
"Hey, you okay?"
"Yeah. I, that was loud."
"Yeah, it's heavily pouring out. We can open the radio for music to help you sleep?"
Before she can answer, white flashes and another booming sound rattled them. A tear escaped from Jinx's eye as memories flashed in her mind. She remembers how her partner was afraid of this kind of weather since they were kids.
The first time it happened, she heard a knock on her bedroom window, seeing her childhood friend soaking in the rain, shivering.
"Oh my, why are you, come on."
She helped her get inside, let her change her clothes so she could climb up to her bed but every time lightning flashes and thunders roar, it terrifies her.
"Shhh. It's okay. You're safe here." said a young Jinx who used to be called Powder.
She cuddled her quivering form that night as she tried to lull her to sleep despite the crazy weather.
That knocked some senses in her. She never even asked how her partner survived those times before she met her. Jinx's heart was beating fast, as she got up and put on her outdoor clothes. Confusing Ekko.
"Hey, what are you doing? Where are you going?"
"Home."
"But it's crazy outside, it's dangerous." He stated a fact.
"I don't care. I need to go home. She needs me."
"Well, I really can't change your mind or stop you. Just be careful and text me if you do get home safe."
"Sure."
Ekko is a nice guy, his words are genuine and he doesn't have any malice. He also knows what's happening between the two, and offers Jinx shelter when things aren't okay.
As soon as Jinx got out of the building, she closed her eyes as the wind blew so hard, that you could hear the windows screaming. Huffing, she braved out through the storm, taking alley shortcuts carefully, to avoid getting struck by lightning. A few more brisk paces. She got to the apartment, safe albeit soaking wet. Ditching her drenched clothes by the door.
Walking in her tank top and shorts towards her partner's bedroom. She knocks. Panicking in anticipation as she didn't get a reply. But as she holds the doorknob, her eyes widen. And slowly open the door and went inside but met with emptiness aside from the furniture covered by white sheets. But the very essence of her partner, her personal stuff, the ceiling that used to be sprinkled with glow-in-the-dark stars and planets void naked. The walls that used to have many nerdy and geeky posters like maps, the periodic table of elements, etc. Everything's gone. Even the person she's looking for. A white envelope caught her eye, place a top of the well-made bed.
Her heart skipped a beat.
The Letter:
'Hi, Jinx,
Uhm first of all, I already taken care of all the bills. So you don't have to worry about anything. And if you don't feel like cleaning, I left the info card of the cleaner. Don't worry, she can be trusted. I already worked with her last time I tried working at her company. I also prepared all of your meals, they are in the refrigerator. So you won't have to, just reheat them in the microwave. I also fixed the timer so you won't undercook or burn it. There are also enough grocery so when you don't feel like eating the pre-meal you have another option. The food would probably last at least a month or so. I already listed them down, so when you may forget about it. And I already paid the store you can get them by.
So, you might have already seen that my stuff isn't here anymore. It's okay, I found a studio to rent so please don't worry. I also, left details to Vi if ever you wanted this room rented so you can have extra cash. It will be Vi's duty to choose a good roommate so you don't have to worry about living with just whoever. Just make sure you have spare keys, for whatever emergency occurs. The hotlines are also listed almost everywhere in the house. I hope you'll at least get along with the person and try not to murder each other.
And, Jinx? I just wanted to thank you. For everything. We had a lot of good and bad memories. And that's okay too, because we learned a lot. And I'm so sorry. For leaving you this way. We both know how easy you can find me no matter how hard I tried to hide. It's the only way. So, please don't worry about me. You don't have to find me. Just always know I'll always love you and I'm doing this because I want you to live your life. To be free. Always take care of yourself, okay?'
