Work Text:
Mina knows there’s a major problem with the defense system surrounding the U.A. dorms. The entire point of the dorm system was to protect the students from villains, specifically The League of Villains who have a well known warper. Despite that, the U.A. dorms are just as susceptible to warp and teleportation quirks as most places that weren’t specifically designed to keep them out.
She knows it would be in her and all her classmates’ best interest to bring up this deficiency within their protection as soon as possible. However, Mina hasn’t brought this little fact that she knows to the attention of Mr. Aizawa or any of the other Pro Heroes she personally knows as teachers and faculty at the Pro Hero High School she currently attends. There’s a pretty good reason, well “pretty good” might be a stretch but it's at least an okay reason, why she hasn’t told anyone yet, and it's because when she does, she’ll inevitably have to answer questions about how she knows that very important and hard to come by information.
Naturally, she doesn’t look forward to the day where she has to tell her homeroom teacher, principal, and potentially a police officer or detective that her girlfriend, and whoa she still can’t think about the kisses they shared on Christmas without blushing, has been sneaking onto campus a few times a week for the past few weeks via teleportation quirk so they could make out, gossip, do each other’s makeup, and other general teenage girl stuff. She’d also have to tell them how her girlfriend is almost certainly a villain and how she kissed her and asked her out regardless of knowing that, and how she’s been letting a villain sneak onto campus without saying anything for weeks at this point.
So obviously she hasn’t said anything to the heroes yet because there’s no way she’d get away without some crazy consequences. And well there’s also the fact that Nobara isn’t even getting onto campus the same way that the warper from the League of Villains transports people, so who’s to even say that it's that big of a security risk in the first place. Maybe the quirk that Nobara is using, or maybe having someone else use since she’s not really sure what her girlfriend’s quirk is, works differently enough that the school is still safe from The League. If that’s the case then telling her teachers would just be a waste of everyone’s time since Nobara isn’t a threat to the school and she’d have started like a mass panic for nothing.
And honestly, even if Nobara is a threat to the school, telling someone now would only slow down the progress she’s been making at bringing the girl to justice through kisses, they’d just be getting in the way of her heroic take down of a villain. So, really all Mina knows is that there may be, potentially could be a chance that U.A.’s security systems around the dorms might not be as good as everyone thinks it is. And really, she can’t go to her teachers or the principal with nothing more than a vague hunch.
One of her favorite things to do with Nobara is gossip. It’s something they did when they were still just friends, and it’s something they’ve continued to do even after they started dating. Before, they did it on the phone with both of them lounging in their respective rooms, but it’s even better now because they can both be laying down, cuddled up on her pink and black bed with some music playing in the background as they discuss whatever juicy gossip either of them has come across recently.
Their favorite thing to gossip about is obviously romance, and her current favorite ongoing drama is Nobara’s upperclassman who’s caught in the strangest love triangle she’s ever heard of.
“Okay so Yuta Okkotsu, he’s one of my upperclassmen, did a study abroad in Africa and got back recently, when he was younger like ten years old, he was in the hospital for some time. While he’s there, he meets this other girl that’s his age and they hit it off like immediately they're best friends and never want to spend a moment apart. They stay friends even after the hospital and within the year the girl, who’s named Rika by the way I forgot to mention that, steals her mother’s engagement ring and gives it to Yuta and they promise to get married when they’re older,” Nobara explains while painting Mina’s nails a pretty golden color to match her eyes.
“Aw, that’s so cute,” she exclaims, trying not to move too much. There’s still an orange nail polish stain on her floorboards from the last time she wasn’t mindful of her surroundings while gossiping.
“Right, it's the cutest shit ever, but not long after that Rika gets hit by a car and killed instantly. I’m talking brains splattered all over the pavement right in front of little baby Yuta,” Nobara continued without hesitation.
“Aw, that’s not great,” she responds dejectedly. It’s one of the hardest things to get used to, how her girlfriend can talk about such sad things without batting an eye, like tragedy is something to be expected in life and therefore no big deal. She sneaks a quick peek at the black and red eyepatch that covers Nobara’s right eye. She thinks back to how Nobara seemed so easy-going when she eventually asked about it. How her girlfriend talked about the injury so flippantly, like the only thing to be worried about is how she’s going to have to incorporate an eyepatch into all her future outfits and not the fact that she’s forever lost an eyeball and was in a coma for two months, all at sixteen.
“Yea probably not, but luckily, he loved her so much that his technique or whatever grabs her soul and stuffs it into this giant, scary, and super powerful monster that’s bound to his own soul so they can stay together forever. Anyways, now his undead fiancée is haunting him and there’s nothing he can do about it. To make matters worse, she’s the jealous type, so whenever girls get too close to Yuta she gets all mad and threatens to kill them if they don’t back off.”
“If I ever die, I’m totally haunting you now that I know that’s an option.”
“I’m glad to know my Alien Queen will love me even after death.”
“Oh My God! Please stop, that nickname is so embarrassing!”
“It wasn’t so embarrassing when you wanted it to be your hero name darling!”
“Please just continue your story,” she pleads with a blush on her face.
“Okay so fast forward, he’s in high school now and there he meets Maki who’s this strong chick with a chip on her shoulder that’s learning how to fight so she can get strong enough to kill her whole family,” Nobara continues with a smirk on her face.
“That’s slightly concerning.”
“Well, her family is full of misogynistic assholes who think women should be nothing more than servants to men and mothers. If they had it their way her family would have her skip school entirely to be a servant to her father until she’s old enough to be married off to one of her cousins.”
“Okay, so killing her whole family is totally understandable.”
“So Yuta is super weak, can’t fight to save his life and here comes Maki giving him hands on teaching, literally kicking his ass into shape, and they both develop crushes on each other throughout their first year. Apparently, it got so bad once during their first year that Rika nearly killed Maki after she got super injured by Gojo’s ex-situationship since Yuta was fretting over her like a paranoid boyfriend and Rika was super pissed about the lack of attention she was getting. I heard that was the first time Yuta ever yelled at her and since then she’s been walking on eggshells around Maki.”
“Gojo and his ex-situationship will be the death of him one day but putting that aside it sounds like Yuta made his choice pretty clearly. I’m not sure how this could really be a love triangle anymore.”
“That’s because you didn’t let me finish. So after yelling at her in front of Maki, Yuta allegedly felt bad and later that very same day after leaving Maki in the infirmary he tells Rika how much she means to him, full on makes out with her, and tells her he loves her, but that she’s gonna have to put up with Maki because he cares about her now too.”
“Oh wow, Yuta’s got some balls, telling his undead fiancée that she’s gonna have to get along with his living soon-to-be girlfriend.”
“Oh yea, the two still don’t really like each other, but neither of them wants to ruin what they have with Yuta either, so they put up with each other. And it’s especially funny because Yuta is a total wimp, sure the guy is strong as hell in a fight, but outside of it both Maki and Rika are always yelling and dragging his ass around like a dog. Honestly, from the little I’ve seen of them the only time those two seem to get along is when they’re yelling at Yuta about something.”
“I’m sure he’s right where he wants to be.”
“Oh, most definitely.”
While she couldn’t get enough of Yuta’s absolutely wild love life and any potential updates that might happen, Nobara is instead fascinated by the ongoing Midoriya-Aoyama cheese debacle.
“Right, so it’s lunch time and we’re all making our way out of the classroom to get to the cafeteria when Aoyama calls out to Midoriya and asks him to stay behind and eat lunch with him in the classroom,” she begins to explain.
“Why doesn’t he eat lunch in the cafeteria with everyone else,” Nobara questions.
“Well from what I’ve heard his lunch is specially made and he eats with a glass of wine on the side, so he doesn’t sit with everyone else to make sure it doesn’t get stolen? Or maybe he just doesn’t want to eat with everyone else since he’s kinda antisocial. I’m not too sure.”
“And he just gets to do that? Have wine with his lunch I mean, isn’t that too illegal for this school?”
“He’s French, so I think the school has to let him, otherwise they might get sued for discrimination.”
“Ah, that makes sense.”
“Yea so anyways, he calls for Midoriya to stay behind with him, but Midoriya normally eats with his friends so he asks Aoyama if he’d rather eat with all of them in their normal spot, but Aoyama gets up with a sparkle and claims that no he can’t go eat with his whole friend group since he just got in special cheese that he’s dying to share with Midoriya alone.”
“Are the sparkles another French thing?”
“No that’s his quirk; the cheese is a French thing. As I was saying, Midoriya looks like he wants to refuse, but he’s too nice to say no outright so he’s trying to find a polite way to say no which causes him to start quietly muttering to himself about how to word what he wants to say. As he’s doing this though, Aoyama has moved across the classroom, shoved cheese into his mouth, and told Midoriya that he’ll make it worth his time with a wink.”
“Damn French Boy knows how to go get what he wants.”
“Yea, so Midoriya turns like ripe tomato red because of this, but he still looks like he wants to say no until his normal friend group is practically shoving him to Aoyama and telling him to have fun. And as they’re leaving, I hear Todoroki question if he should try that approach with Sero and I swear I saw Sero blush at that!”
“You know normally I’m with you when you say you can see certain people getting together, but I’m really not seeing the Todoroki-Sero thing.”
“Seriously? Why not, do you not think Sero is into guys?”
“What, no I totally agree with you that Sero is into the walking candy cane, but I’m not convinced he’s into Sero like you think he is. I went and watched that Sports Festival thing you told me about and saw the way he kicked Sero’s ass, and I think he’s just trying his best to apologize for that.”
“Nobara, there’s no way in hell you think Todoroki is just trying to apologize for the Sports Festival! He told Sero, to his face during a class dinner mind you, that he wanted to kiss him!”
“You were the one that told me candy cane wasn’t good at reading the room and is awkward in most social situations!”
“He said he wanted to kiss him!”
“Maybe he thinks friends kiss to make up after fights!”
Ochako has been pretty busy with her work study recently, so their semi-frequent “gushing over the villainous girls we’re crushing on” convos have been put on hold. However, whatever was going on with that is finally over so it's time for another long-awaited girl talk with Ochako! Like all the other times, they meet up in her room since it’s a much better atmosphere than the alternative, and once the door is finally closed, some music is turned on, and they’re both sat down with snacks it's time for updates!
“Soooooo, if that love-struck grin you’ve had on your face for the past day is anything to go by, something new happened on the Himiko Toga front,” she began. Ochako wasn’t the only one of her classmates to come back to the dorms in the afternoon yesterday with smiles on their face, but nobody else’s had looked quite like Ochako’s.
“Yea, I saw Himiko at the end of the Yakuza Raid,” Ochako responded with a small blush on her face. And wow, she didn’t even deny that she had a love-struck grin because of Himiko Toga anymore. It felt like only yesterday when getting Ochako to admit that she maybe thought the blonde villain was slightly pretty would take the better part of two hours.
“Don’t leave me in the dark girl, what happened?”
“Well, I wasn’t badly injured during the raid, so I was off to the side during the end when most of the fighting had stopped and it was just police handcuffing villains and injured heroes getting medical attention when I heard some noise coming from an alley not too far away. I went to check it out and I saw Himiko running down the alley naked,” here Ochako’s blush intensified but she didn’t stutter or stop talking which would have been a miracle a few months ago. “And after seeing her, I kinda just blurted out the first thing that came to mind which was, ‘I think you’re really pretty’ which got her attention and then she was on top of me asking what I thought was pretty about her. So, I told her, and then she told me what she thought was cute about me and then she stabbed me with her blood draining needle weapon thing before running off,” Ochako finished with a dopey smile that let her know that Ochako thought that the whole interaction was nice and potentially romantic, even the stabbing.
“Damn Casanova, getting her naked before the first date, never would’ve thought you had it in you!” And honestly, she really didn’t think Ochako would have outright told Toga that she thought she was pretty so soon. Especially not while the blonde was naked in an alley, but love makes people crazy so maybe it shouldn’t be all that surprising.
“Honestly, me neither I still can’t believe I really said that. But now I’m even more nervous about what will happen next time I see her. Will she bring it up, should I bring it up, what am I even supposed to say next time I see her?”
“How about ‘hey I’ve already seen you naked so can I have your phone number’ that might work.”
“But what if asking for her phone number is too forward and scares her off?”
“Ochako, this is the same girl that’s been stalking you for months to discreetly leave you notes and presents, who was apparently completely comfortable with having a full conversation with you while naked, I don’t think you could scare her off if you tried.”
“I guess so," Ochako responds slightly hesitant. "But what about you, has anything exciting happened with your girlfriend recently?”
“Unfortunately, no,” she said with a big dramatic sigh. “Every time I see her, she’s at least partially clothed.”
“What,” Ochako nearly did a spit take at that comment.
“Yea, and we’ve even been on so many dates already,” she whined. “Ochako you’ve gotta tell me your secrets,” she finished while flashing Ochako with the best puppydog eyes she could.
“I- Wha- I don’t have any secrets on how to get girls naked,” Ochako practically screamed through her stutter and Mina couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled out of her at that.
Mina knew that her girlfriend liked to argue. So many of their conversations turned into playful arguments over the dumbest things whenever they spent time together. It’s one of her favorite things about Nobara, how she was always willing to truly engage in a conversation no matter how silly it got. And with how much time they spent together it’s only natural that she gets dragged into the arguments her girlfriend has with other people sometimes.
“Hey darling, do you think having a celebrity crush is weird,” Nobara asked out of the blue while lounging on her bed.
“I guess it would depend on the celebrity, but in general not really,” she absentmindedly replied, still looking through the clothes in her closet.
“Jennifer Lawerance.”
“Who?”
“American Actress who was most popular in 2015 or at least around then I think,” was Nobara’s reply. And she had to admit that was pretty weird. A celebrity crush for a woman that hadn’t been alive for hundreds of years instead of someone more relevant, like a Pro Hero, is practically unheard of.
“Yea, I’d say that’s pretty weird.”
“See, Yuji-”
“The famous pink-haired idiot,” she interrupted.
“Yea that idiot goes around telling everyone that he meets that he’s into women like her. Like it’s some normal fun fact to share and not weird as hell.”
“Where did he even hear of her?”
“Probably one of the shitty movies he loves to watch. I’m pretty sure he’s got posters of her hung up in his room at the dorms,” was Nobara’s reply. And that was definitely a little odd. She certainly wouldn’t judge him for liking the woman, but being able to find movies from that long ago and posters too felt insanely unlikely. He probably had to do so much digging to find any relevant merch of that woman, and she was very curious as to why he’d go through all that trouble for a woman he’d never even be able to meet.
“And you said he just tells everyone he meets that he’s into her?”
“Yea, I keep telling that idiot he should knock it off, but he doesn’t see why it’s such a big deal.”
“I mean it’s not the weirdest thing he could be doing, but shifting gears what about you? Any celebrity crushes you want to tell your girlfriend about?”
“Definitely not.”
“Aw, come on baby. I promise I won’t get mad.”
“Come on Mina, you know I wouldn’t lie to spare your feelings,” her girlfriend replied with a snort and eye roll.
“Okay, fine but you’re telling me there isn’t a single older woman you find attractive? Not a single one at all?”
“Well, she’s not a celebrity, but if it’s just older women then my school’s doctor, Shoko, is a total MILF.”
“Your school’s doctor? Is a total MILF? Okay I take it back I might get mad at that,” she responded with an eyebrow raise.
“I’m sure you won’t be saying that after you see her,” Nobara stated matter-of-factly and handed over her phone after pulling up a specific picture. She took it and looked down to see a picture of a woman that was supposedly Nobara’s school doctor, and wow there was so much to unpack right now.
“Nobara,” she said it as straight-faced as she could, hoping her absolute lack of emotion in her voice conveyed everything she was feeling.
“What? No way you’re gonna tell me you don’t think Shoko is hot. That’s bullshit and you know it.”
“Oh no I agree with you, that woman is absolutely gorgeous, a total bombshell.”
“Then what’s the issue,” Nobara questioned with her own eyebrow raised this time.
“You just showed me a picture of her elbow deep, digging around in someone’s chest, someone that looks suspiciously like the famed pink-haired idiot that happens to be your classmate. Someone that looks very alive in that picture despite the gaping hole in his chest that your very attractive school doctor is digging around in,” she responded, voice carefully flat.
“Oh that? Yea Yuji figured out he could survive for a while even when his heart has been ripped out one day and she was curious about it,” Nobara replies dismissively. Part of Mina wants to scream, to yell as loud as she can at her girlfriend. To tell her that her classmate finding out that he can survive without his heart in his chest isn’t normal, that he shouldn’t be missing his heart for any reason at all, and that the school doctor’s reaction to a student not having a heart in their chest shouldn’t be to dig around because she’s curious about it. But Mina pushes that instinctive reaction down because it’s not helpful. She’s known about Nobara’s odd habits, and hot damn is that putting it lightly, for months now. She knew that dating Nobara would involve moments like this and she still decided to kiss her on her balcony on Christmas a few months ago. She hasn’t seen Nobara mourn the loss of a classmate, so Yuji is probably fine, she’s never met the guy, but he didn’t seem worried in the picture, so everything is probably going to be okay. So, if Nobara wants to act like that’s nothing, then she can ignore how fast her own heart is beating in her chest and pretend like it's nothing. Nobara is so lucky she’s as pretty as she is crazy.
“You really don’t see it?”
“See what?”
“Nobara, baby, Shoko looks like she could be your mom.”
“What? No she doesn’t, she doesn’t even look old enough to have kids.”
“Really, so the ‘total MILF’ doesn’t look old enough to have kids?”
“You know what I meant when I said that!”
“Yea you meant she’s a total mother you’d like to fu-”
“Okay," Nobara interrupts with a blush on her face. "Maybe she looks a bit like me, but older sister at best, no way could she have a kid as old as me!”
“I’m glad you can admit when you’re wrong. It’s my favorite thing about you,” she replied through giggles.
“Yea yea, laugh it up. At least you’ve got something to look forward to in the future. Your girlfriend is gonna be hot as hell when she’s in her thirties.”
“I already knew that baby.” She plants a quick kiss on Nobara’s check after that. “Now get the hell outta here, I’ve got a game night with my friends planned.”
Mina knows she can get loud when she’s talking, especially when she’s excited about whatever she’s talking about. Not only loud, but she also gets really animated too, constantly waving her hands around in tandem with her words. Nobara isn’t much different in that regard, at times being even louder and more animated over the course of a conversation than herself. It’s nearly gotten them caught on a few occasions. Her classmates have commented on the loudness of her phone speaker, jokingly saying it was almost like another person was in her room more than once or twice.
Truthfully, it’s something they should probably be mindful of, but it’s a part of them that comes so naturally she doesn’t think they could stay quiet for long no matter how hard they tried. But that’s not to say they’ve never had quieter, more personal, conversations in her dorm room. In fact, if she had to rank her favorite conversations that she’s had with her girlfriend in the safety of her dorm these past few months, her favorite one was spoken so softly almost no one else would’ve heard them even if they were in the room too.
“Hi,” Mina whispers. Nobara’s in her room again, something that has been pretty common since they’ve started dating but things are different today. No music is playing in the background, which is a first for them since one of them was always eager to play their personal playlist whenever they were together, if for no reason other than background music.
“Hey,” Nobara responds just as quietly. It's a rare moment where they’re both staying still, where neither of them is doing anything other than giving each other one hundred percent of their attention. There’s no pacing back and forth in the room while wildly gesturing to spin the tale of the latest gossip, no absentminded scrolling of social media on their phones while lazing around in each other's company, no not-so-silent suffering through half-assed studying for their respective schools together.
“I’m gonna kiss you,” she states. Nobara is sitting on her bed and she’s in Nobara’s lap, so despite barely being audible she’s heard loud and clear. And with their close proximity it’s no trouble for them to both lean in and meet halfway for the kiss.
It’s much better than that first time a few months ago. It’s a slow and confident thing, so unlike that nerve filled hurried meeting of their lips on the balcony on Christmas. Their lips fit together comfortably, coming together with an ease that makes it look natural but is really the result of lots of practice over the course of a few months. Her hands rest comfortably on Nobara’s shoulders for stability, while Nobara's hands end up on her waist and pull her in a little closer.
They kiss for a while, much longer than the quick touch of lips their first kiss was, only pulling away after they’re out of breath. It’s a nice kiss, something they’ve shared countless times at this point. Normally, this is as far as they go, maybe they’ll share a few more quick kisses later, but they’ve never gone any further than simply kissing on the lips.
Maybe it was the recent talk she had with Ochako, knowing that her friend who could hardly admit she even had a crush not long ago was already seeing said crush naked, making her slightly jealous or maybe she was just slightly more in love with Nobara than she realized, but today simple kisses on the lips just weren’t enough for her. And despite the fact that she really was joking with Ochako when she implied that she was disappointed that Nobara was always clothed when they were together, she could admit there was a certain piece of clothing she is very eager to see her girlfriend remove.
So, when Nobara leaned back from the kiss and opened her mouth to say something, probably something witty that she’d be happy to listen to and laugh at on any other day, she leaned forward kissing her girlfriend again, but this time on the cheek. The next kiss came just as quick, this one a little further down on Nobara’s jaw. The next one was a little more hesitant, but after a short pause she planted a kiss on her girlfriend’s neck. Nobara had closed her mouth and gone quiet, but wasn’t pulling away, so with the biggest blush she’s ever had spread across her face, Mina placed a kiss on the exposed part of Nobara’s shoulder. She looked up to see Nobara, her amazing girlfriend, blushing as much as she was but overall, still looking comfortable. Seeing this, she felt more than okay asking for exactly what she wanted.
“Nobara, baby, I want to see your face,” she said, and it might have been the quietest she’s ever heard herself speak.
“Aren’t you already looking at it darling,” Nobara questioned just as quietly, and she sounds genuinely confused, like she really doesn’t know what Mina means.
No, Mina thinks I haven’t truly seen your face since a few days before last Halloween is what she wants to say, but like so many others, she keeps those thoughts to herself. She doesn't know if Nobara has been hiding her face from her intentionally or if it’s actually just slipped her mind, but she hasn’t seen her girlfriend without an eyepatch on once since she’s started wearing it and it's starting to worry her. What she does know is that most conversations regarding that injury get brushed off like nothing, and if she seems like she cares too much there’s a high chance Nobara will just downplay the whole thing.
So, she responds with forced casualness in her voice, "All of your face baby.”
“Oh. You sure? I’ve been hiding a pretty badass scar and I’m not sure you can handle seeing it,” Nobara says with a smirk, but Mina has known the other girl for long enough now to hear the hesitance in that statement. It’s a little saddening to know her girlfriend is hesitant to show off her face around her, a little heartbreaking to know on some level Nobara is scared of her reaction to her scars. She doesn’t let those emotions show on her face though and doesn't let Nobara know that she caught the hesitance in her voice. She just continues being playfully flirtatious like she always is.
“Yep! I’ve been wanting to compare the before and after, you know see how much prettier you are now,” she says voice never wavering, still not talking much above a whisper.
Nobara’s smirk falters just a bit at that, but she’s far too stubborn to let a little insecurity get the better of her, so it’s not long before she’s taken the eyepatch off and she’s staring straight at Mina with a small grin on her face. “So, what’s the verdict,” Nobara questions still grinning.
Honestly, it's a scar. It doesn’t look any different than she expected after all the searching and questioning she’s done in preparation for this moment, but it’s still a scar on her girlfriend so she feels she’s justified when she replies with, "Definitely a badass scar, baby.”
“And how does the after compare to the before?”
“The after is much prettier, like I knew it would be,” and she knows there’s a chance Nobara doesn’t believe her. She knows there’s a chance her girlfriend thinks she’s just trying to say the right thing and not what she really feels, but she’s got a pretty good argument lined up to combat that and she’s more than happy to share it. “And do you want to know how I knew?”
“I’m dying to know darling.”
“You had the before when we were just friends,” she starts. She leans in again, really taking in and memorizing all of Nobara’s face. She’s all too aware that the next time they see each other Nobara’s face might look different.
“And today is the first time I’m seeing the after, but you’re my girlfriend now.” She gives Nobara another kiss, this one on her lips. It’s not a long kiss, really it's only meant to keep the other girl quiet long enough for her to finish her argument. By the time she pulls away she’s smiling, happy to finally have gotten to really see her girlfriend’s face, to really kiss her girlfriend’s face.
“And nobody is prettier than my girlfriend.”
