Mina didn’t think of herself as a very judgmental person. Love is love, vibes are vibes, and as long as people weren’t hurting others she was pretty cool with just going with the flow. Especially when it came to food. It’s part of why she’s not bothered by Ochako’s soon-to-be wife’s love for drinking blood. While she disagrees with said girl’s methods for obtaining it, the act of consuming the stuff was totally fine.
Hell, she even considered herself someone more than willing to try exotic foods. She and Midoriya had even tried some Kiviak not too long ago. It wasn’t easy to get their hands on any, and she couldn’t really look Tokoyami in the eyes for about a week afterwards, but the dish was pretty good, and she’d be happy to indulge again! So, in the past she never really thought she had a line that could be crossed when it came to exotic or nontraditional foods. She truly thought there was nothing she could hear about someone eating that would cause her to judge them. Nobara made sure to change that.
Listen she loved her girlfriend and she was used to Nobara saying some of the craziest shit she’s ever heard like it was no big deal, but she had a limit on what she could take. Hearing that her girlfriend’s classmate Yuji, the famous pink-haired idiot, that she has heard so many wonderful things about, was a cannibal was nearly too much for her to deal with.
Thankfully, the guy wasn’t a cannibal for some petty reason like human flesh tasting good. He was simply of unfortunate heritage. His grand uncle’s quirk caused him to be split into twenty fingers upon his death, and one of his descendants had to eat all of them so his soul could rest. Not only that, his older brothers’ quirks turned them into living fetuses that could only be put to rest if one of their descendants ate them. Honestly, she kinda pitied the guy. Apparently he was the only member of his family still alive and he had to eat the remains of so many of his family members so they could have a peaceful afterlife. Didn’t change the fact that she thought the guy was kinda gross.
Fortunately, Nobara was in complete agreement. She didn’t know what she would have done if her girlfriend was comfortable with fetus eating. She’ll have to remember to steer clear of Yuji, the famous pink-haired idiot, when she’s eventually pregnant with Nobara’s babies. Wouldn’t want to tempt him with any forbidden fruit.
Mina really thought the dead body of your grand uncle or the fetuses of your brothers would be the end of the list of foods she had to judge someone for eating. Intellectually she knew that wasn’t exactly true, the dead body of your grand aunt or the fetuses of your sisters would have been just as bad. However, she didn’t really think she would ever meet anyone that actually had eaten something so bad she had to judge them for it again. So, it was more than a little surprising when her good friend Ochako described a meal she had that was so strange it almost sounded unreal.
They were hanging out in her room. Much like Nobara, although for very different reasons, Ochako had become a frequent visitor to her dorm room as of late. They weren’t best friends previously, but they’d been getting closer since their dual inductions into the In-Love with Law-Aiding Citizens Club. The name wasn’t perfect, the club only had two members, and if anyone ever found out what the club was actually about they would certainly face grave consequences. But there was just something about being in a secret club that made people closer.
Nowadays they didn’t even need to be gushing over their respective law-aiding citizens to have fun hanging out. Ochako was practically a completely blank slate when it came to all things fashion and makeup related. And as a certifiable fashionista, world-renown makeup artist, and overall good friend, she was more than happy to spend hours helping Ochako out with all things feminine.
Spending more time with Ochako was great for another completely unrelated reason. Talking to Ochako was a chance to get a normal perspective, well calling Ochako’s perspective normal was going to be difficult after this latest incident, on all of the crazy shit Nobara said like it wasn’t a big deal. Mina felt very vindicated when Ochako agreed with her that Nobara’s teacher being some billionaire that was more than happy to lend any of his students his personal debit card whenever they needed money is crazy.
Nobara, like she’d come to expect of her girlfriend, was always quick to wave away any concerns she had in the beginning of their friendship about her using some random guy’s debit card to pay for all of their stuff whenever they went out together. Now that she knew the name on the card belonged to the bastard that convinced Nobara to join a gang at sixteen, and had some of the juiciest relationship drama ever, she was more than happy to see her girlfriend pull that card out for all their shopping and eating expenses. Didn’t make the fact that Nobara even had the card in the first place any less crazy though.
Ochako also agrees with her that Todoroki is definitely into Sero romantically, and definitely not just trying to be nice or whatever nonsense Nobara had called it. Mina’s retroactively giving herself a pat on the back for Christmas night on her balcony. Her super direct approach of “I am now your girlfriend and will kiss you romantically” apparently was the only way she was going to get her point across. Anymore vague and Nobara would’ve probably thought she just wanted to be best friends or something else stupidly platonic.
Unfortunately, because Mina still thought of Ochako as a normal teenage high school girl, an evaluation that would have to change immediately, she couldn’t just ask Ochako how crazy she thought eating dead bodies was without raising some red flags. Instead, she came up with the brilliant plan of just asking Ochako what the craziest thing she’s eaten was and then being satisfied with the comparatively mundane answer. Unfortunately, that is not what happened.
It starts with her offhandedly asking Ochako about the craziest thing she has eaten while she is going through her closet. She should have known things were bound to go bad. The last conversation she could remember having while she was going through her closet ended with Nobara showing her a picture of one of the hottest women she’s ever seen digging around in the famous pink-haired idiot’s heartless chest cavity. A voice that sounded suspiciously like Yaomomo mutters something about confirmation bias. She is too distracted by all her cute clothes lining her closet to think about any of that though, so instead some of her attention turns to Ochako as she responds with absolute nonsense.
“Well as you know I grew up poor, still am really, but because of that I’ve had my fair share of struggle meals that could be considered crazy,” Ochako starts. It isn’t new information to her, and Ochako has gotten much more comfortable talking about her family struggles as they've gotten to know each other better. So, she doesn’t feel too bad when her first thought is intrigue at getting to hear about what makes up a struggle meal.
“But the craziest one had to be a few months before we moved into the dorms actually. I had to move into an apartment on my own closer to the school to be able to afford to attend. But that meant I had even less money for food than I usually did. At the start things weren’t too bad either. There were always plenty of squirrels running around outside to catch and cook up into a nice dinner,” Ochako continues. Mina just hums at that, not saying anything just yet. Part of her wants to speak up and talk about how unbelievable it is that a sixteen-year-old had to hunt wild squirrels for dinner, but Ochako is being more vulnerable than normal right now. The last thing she wants to do is be insensitive. And she knows she grew up upper-middle class, so while it might seem unbelievable for her it very well could be believable for her classmate. Afterall, she knows a different sixteen-year-old girl that joined a gang because she grew up poor and in the countryside much like Ochako.
“But then things got really bad after the Sports Festival. I didn’t even realize how much money I had spent in preparation for it. I was completely broke, and worse the local squirrels had recognized an apex predator had moved into their territory and were quick to migrate somewhere safer. Things got so bad that I had to eat toothpaste sandwiches for a while,” Ochako says solemnly.
“Toothpaste sandwiches? How are those different from normal sandwiches,” Mina can’t help but ask. Surely, they aren’t what she is imagining.
“Two pieces of bread with toothpaste in between," Ochako confirms with a grim nod.
“I- w-what,” Mina sputters out. She finally turned from what she was doing to look at Ochako.
“Yeah,” Ochako says with an exhale before turning her head away, not making eye contact. Her shoulders are slightly shaking now.
“Why,” Mina can’t help but ask. She wanted to understand before she says more. She doesn’t want to judge her friend, especially not without all the facts. “Why didn’t you just eat the bread without the toothpaste?”
Ochako’s response doesn’t come immediately. For a moment her shoulders just continue to shake while she looks away. Eventually she does say something, but her voice cracks as she says, “Why do you think Mina?”
It isn’t asked harshly. The question is genuine, like Ochako really wants to know what she thinks. With her friend barely holding herself together, Mina doesn’t want to disappoint her by not giving a thoughtful answer. She starts pacing the room thinking of reasons and then discarding them just as quickly. She runs through a few ideas like it tasting better than plain bread or to double as a particularly big mint before finally settling on one that seemed plausible. She sneaks a quick look at her friend, shoulders still shaking while turned away, before she finally gets the confidence to speak.
“Because it’s a traditional struggle meal,” Mina finally responds apprehensively. She doesn’t really think the answer is right, but Ochako is here crying in her room being vulnerable and she doesn’t have the heart to guess anything more personal at the moment.
Right after her response the flood gates that Ochako has been holding back seem to burst open with ferocity. However, it isn’t cries, wails, or screams from the suffering of digging up painful memories that comes. Ochako is laughing. Full belly laughing, head tilted back both hands over her stomach as she laughs like she has just told the funniest joke in the word. It doesn’t take long for Mina to catch on with what is happening.
“Wha- You asshole!” Mina’s face grows pinker in embarrassment as she realizes she is the butt of Ochako’s joke. “Here I am trying to avoid stepping on an emotional landmine, while also being there for you and you’re just laughing at me!” She sends a glare at her friend, but Ochako just keeps laughing. “You haven’t ever eaten a toothpaste sandwich have you,” Mina practically shrieks out the question.
“No, no I have actually. I even washed it down with my dirty bathwater,” Ochako chokes out through her laughter.
“Laugh it up Ochako Uraraka but know this! I will have my revenge,” Mina declares. Then for extra emphasis she goes to pick up the very ornate hammer that is sitting on her coffee table, courtesy of one Nobara Kugisaki leaving it there by mistake last time she visited, to appear extra threatening. Unfortunately, her theatrics only make her less threatening as she completely fails to pick up the deceptively heavy hammer that is sitting on her table.
Thankfully, Ochako is too busy laughing to notice her failure, so she is spared any further embarrassment. She tries to pick it up again, this time being more deliberate now that she knows it's not as light as she thought, but again she fails to pick the hammer up. Ochako’s laughter is starting to fade in the background, but Mina’s attention is solely on the ancient looking hammer on her table.
It's apparently Nobara’s new hammer, or well new to her girlfriend owning it, the hammer itself looks kinda old. She knows she saw Nobara picking it up and swinging it around with only one hand only a day ago. Nobara even decided to try and show off some “cool” hammer tricks that she’d been learning recently. Those tricks weren’t as “cool” as they were nearly destructive. As pretty as Nobara looked with such a focused look on her face, Mina had to tell her to knock it off after she nearly made a hole in the wall from a barely successful trick for the third time in a row.
Now Mina knows, better than most probably, that Nobara is far from weak. Her girlfriend has literally swept her off her feet enough times for Mina to know that something isn’t light just because Nobara can pick it up and swing it around. Despite that, she can’t help but confusedly stare at the apparently very heavy hammer she’s just failed to pick up twice. She’s gearing up to try again, to really throw her back into it, when she hears Ochako speak up from her side.
“That’s a neat looking hammer,” Ochako states.
“Yea, it’s Nobara’s,” Mina replies offhandedly.
“Oh, so like you bought it for her as a gift?”
“Huh? What do you mea- oh I mean yea. Yes! I bought it for her as a gift!”
“That’s so cute! I wonder if I could afford to buy Himiko some knives?”
“I’m sure the mall has some nice-looking decorational knives that aren’t too expensive. I’ll keep an eye out next time I’m there.”
“Hmm. I think I’d want them to be sharp enough for her to stab me with though.”
“What?” Mina blinks, all thoughts of the hammer momentarily gone.
“What?” Ochako blinks, then what came out of her mouth finally catches up with her brain and she blushes furiously. She wildly waves her hands in the air, trying to swipe the embarrassment away. Attempting to move the conversation along she says, “Why are you so focused on the hammer now though?”
Mina stares at Ochako for a moment, wondering if it’s worth it to try and dig on that train of thought, before deciding to drop it for the moment and responding with, “I was looking to move it off the table for the time being, but I think it’s stuck?”
“What do you mean? How’d it get stuck,” Ochako questions curiously.
“I’m not sure? I was trying to move it, but it won’t come off the table like it’s super heavy even though I know it shouldn’t be that heavy.”
“Did you accidentally super glue it to the table?”
“What? Of course not! Why’d you ask that?”
“Why else would a hammer be stuck to your table?”
“Well maybe someone snuck in here and used their quirk on it to make it stuck! Like that guy in 1-B that can weld stuff together with his quirk.”
“I think if that guy was going to break into any of the girls’ rooms it’d be Yaomomo’s.”
“A true star-crossed lover, whose beautiful potential bride is a part of a rivaling class with a dark history that spans generations! He will either have to bridge the gap between the two classes for any hope of a successful relationship or develop one with her in complete secrecy. Both options will be difficult, and that's before mentioning that if he truly wants her hand in marriage, he’ll have to defeat his love rival, the fierce Kyoka Jiro who has already won the fair maiden's heart, in mortal combat before her parents would ever accept any proposal.” Both girls laugh out loud at Mina’s silly narration of a possible Awase-Yaoyorozu romance before getting back on topic.
“I could try picking it up for you. I’m stronger than you by a decent bit,” Ochako offers.
“Wow thanks Ochako. Way to make a girl feel deserving of her spot in the U.A hero course,” Mina replies with a fake pout.
“That’s not what I meant! You’re just more speed and reflexes and stuff while I’ve been putting on a lot of muscle since my internship with Gunhead!”
“Trust me I’ve noticed and I’m not the only one. What was it that a certain blonde said last time you saw her? Something about you being much better at pinning her beneath you than when you first met,” Mina questions with all the fake innocence she can muster.
“Wha- How do you even know about that,” Ochako sputters with a darker blush on her cheeks than usual.
“Oh, you sweet girl, I’ve got eyes and ears everywhere. When it comes to Love and Romance, I always know! However, if you’d like a more specific answer, a little birdie told me, even more specifically I heard about it from a crow that saw you two together,” she answers with a smirk.
“What? How did Tokoyami even see me? He wasn’t there!”
“Tokoyami? I didn’t mean him. I meant a literal crow.”
“Oh okay, yea that makes more sense I think.”
“Also isn’t Tokoyami a raven?”
“I’m not sure, I’ve never asked. It’s not like I know the difference anyways.”
“Me neither, but enough of that. You really are a bold one Ochako. I’m almost surprised that Toga wasn’t naked this time too. You apparently don’t like to take things slow, do you?”
“I wouldn’t have held her down like that if she was naked! She would’ve gotten all dirty like that,” Ochako defends, still blushing.
“What a gentlewoman you are,” Mina giggles out.
“Anyways! You still haven’t explained where you heard about that! Did Koda tell you? Isn’t it kinda bad that he knows?”
“Hmm, I see why you would think that, but I can confirm my source isn’t Koda. However, I’ll have to stop you before you make any further inquiries since my sources have requested to be anonymous,” Mina says with faux seriousness.
“Fine keep your secrets Mina, I’m gonna try to pick up this hammer now.”
She moves out of the way so Ochako can shift over to standing right in front of where the hammer is laid on the table. Ochako braces herself, almost like she’s preparing to lift heavy weights, squats slightly so she can lift with her legs and not her back, places both hands on the handles with her pinkies out to not accidentally use her quirk, and then finally tries to lift it. The hammer doesn’t shift at all despite the clear effort Ochako is putting into trying to pick it up.
“I think something is wrong with your hammer,” Ochako states after a few moments of trying to move it.
“It’s too heavy for you to move?”
“Yea definitely. There’s no way I can move this thing. How’d you even get it in here?”
“I mean, it wasn’t that heavy yesterday.”
“Are you saying it got heavier since yesterday?”
“I guess so?”
“Huh, so someone really did sneak into your room and use their quirk on your hammer.”
They decide it's best to call in outside help to move the hammer. Mina’s first thought is to just call Nobara and ask what the hell is wrong with her hammer, but she has to discard that thought pretty quickly. It contradicts the story she hastily told Ochako, that the hammer is a surprise gift for her girlfriend. It would also expose the fact that Nobara has been inside her dorm room, which is a whole can of worms she doesn’t want to deal with today.
Ochako’s first recommendation is to ask Midoriya. It’s not a bad suggestion, but she has to veto it for multiple reasons. The guy is undoubtedly strong, and with the better control over his quirk he’s been gaining he could easily pull with a lot more force than either of them. However, Midoriya can get very intense when he sets his eyes on a goal. The whole class saw that at the Sports Festival when he was willing to break his bones like it was nothing to win. The whole class got to see that again during and after the training camp attack. And most recently, she specifically got to see that when he spent two sleepless days straight figuring out how to get Kiviak for the both of them to try. The last thing she wants to do is show him an unmovable hammer and have him become determined to move it for her.
That might lead to him breaking every bone in his body to lift it or him spending multiple sleepless nights doing research to figure out why the hammer won’t move. So he’ll either break all his bones to move Nobara's hammer, which she doesn’t want to happen, or he’ll figure out it’s Nobara’s hammer, which she really doesn’t want to happen. She can’t say any of that to Ochako though, so she has to come up with a different reason to leave Midoriya out of this fiasco. Luckily, she overheard Aoyama being very insistent that Midoriya try out some new cheese he got with him earlier in the common room. Since she’s not the only one that wants that ship to sail, all it takes is a mention of the two spending time together for Ochako to start thinking of who else is available to help.
They end up seeking out Shoji. All their other classmates are either busy with other stuff or aren’t strong enough to help. Finding the guy isn’t difficult. He's just sitting in the living room talking with whoever is hanging around. Shoji is quick to agree to help out without asking any questions. It isn’t long before all three of them are back in Mina’s room standing in front of the table that holds Nobara’s hammer.
“Sorry for bothering you Shoji! It’s just that Mina has this super heavy hammer and neither of us are strong enough to move it, so we were hoping you could help us out,” Ochako says.
“How’d you get it up here if it’s too heavy for you to carry Mina,” Shoji asks kindly.
“Oh well you see it wasn’t this heavy yesterday,” she offers, sounding slightly puzzled. Realizing she should probably give a better explanation she continues, “Like it was light enough to be picked up with a single hand and flipped around and swung casually yesterday. But I can’t even lift it now and I’m not really sure why.”
“I haven’t tried lifting it before today, but it felt super heavy when I tried twenty minutes ago,” Ochako adds.
“I joked that someone might’ve snuck into my room and used their quirk on it, but I don’t think I actually know anyone that could have gotten into my room with a quirk like that,” Mina finishes explaining.
“Hopefully nobody broke into your room, that’d be pretty serious. I can try lifting your hammer for you though, but where do you want me to put it? Would be better to know where I’m bringing it if it’s as heavy as you say,” Shoji responds.
“Well, I didn’t actually want to move it anywhere. Ochako was laughing at me, and I went to grab it to point it at her menacingly while swearing to get revenge when I realized it was too heavy for me to pick up. I guess I just want to see if you can lift it and then you can put it back down on the table,” Mina says embarrassed. She pointedly ignores Ochako laughing at her in the background.
“Fair enough,” is Shoji’s simple response. He moves and gets in position to pick up the hammer. Shoji stands as close to the table and hammer as he can comfortably get. He squats down with his knees bent, feet spread apart, back straight, and wraps multiple hands around the hammer. After a moment where he seemingly tests how heavy the hammer truly is, Shoji braces and attempts to pick it up in earnest. Despite his strength, technique, and effort it becomes clear to all three heroes-in-training in the room that the hammer won’t be moving.
“Well, I’ve got good news and bad news,” Shoji begins after righting himself. “Bad news, I can’t pick up this hammer, and I doubt there are many people that can. It’s very likely someone used their quirk on it. Good news however, is that I’ve seen this kind of thing before. Moving the hammer won’t be too difficult. Although, it will be slightly inconvenient and one wrong move could make things much worse.”
“How much worse,” Mina questions instantly.
“We would have to inform Mr. Aizawa because someone would have to cut out part of your floor,” Shoji answers.
“What do you mean you’ve seen this kind of thing before,” Ochako asks before she can reply to Shoji’s statement.
“Well back in my hometown the people didn’t like heteromorphs much. Most people were just scared, but there was the occasional person that was more hateful than afraid. One business owner in particular really didn’t enjoy it when a heteromorph would try to buy stuff from his shop. He mostly sold custom made pottery in his shop that were set up in nice display cases. He never outright said picking up stuff from their cases to get a closer look was allowed, but I heard he never really stopped anyone from doing it either. Most of the time people would pick stuff up, examine it, and then either buy it or put it back down without incident. I didn’t visit myself since I don’t buy anything that isn’t necessary, but apparently the store got really popular about two years ago. That's about when I started to hear complaints from the other heteromorphs I knew that whenever they went and tried to pick up any of the merchandise it would be heavier than it looked and they would often drop it not expecting the weight. Nobody really knew what his quirk was, but it was pretty obvious after a few times that he was using it to make stuff heavier whenever a heteromorph tried moving it to get them to drop it and pay for damages. One day this older lady asked me for help since she wanted to buy something from his store, but wasn’t strong enough to carry the vase she wanted home even if it didn’t suddenly become heavier. I didn’t mind helping her out, so when we got to the store, I ended up picking up the entire display case with the vase still inside it. It didn’t feel any heavier than it should when I carried it to her home, so I’m guessing that his quirk only worked on the actual vase itself. I would also guess that whatever quirk that was used on Mina’s hammer was similar, so if I just lift the entire table there shouldn’t be much of a problem,” Shoji says while lifting the entire table Nobara’s hammer sat on without issue.
The entire room is quiet for a moment. Her and Ochako seemingly unable to find any words to say anything after hearing Shoji's casual retelling of his experience with discrimination.
“Shoji, Mina when we’re Pro Heroes, let's do our best to make a world where old ladies and young girls don’t have to worry about being treated badly because of their quirk,” Ochako responds suddenly, eyes burning with determination.
“Yea let’s do our best, and thanks for showing me how to move my hammer, Shoji. You weren’t kidding about it being inconvenient to move,” Mina replies somewhat glum. It’s the second time today she’s been reminded how nice her life has been so far. She’s a heteromorph herself, or at least more heteromorph than most people, yet she hasn’t ever faced any discrimination like what her classmate just described. While she certainly won’t complain about that, it made her realize there's a whole lot more to being a Pro Hero than just arresting villains. She thought she had been making good progress towards being someone that deserved to be called a hero after her dressing down from Mr. Aizawa on the first day of school. She can admit that brazenly calling training to save lives fun wasn’t her best moment, and while she had grown since then it’s obvious to her that she still has a way to go before she’s graduated from hero-in-training to fully fledged Pro Hero.
“I’m glad I could help. Just make sure you don’t accidentally knock the hammer off the table onto the floor. You’d have no way of picking it up without cutting a hole into your floor. Unless the quirk wears off, that’s always a possibility too, but I wouldn’t rely on that too much if I was you,” Shoji says.
“Hopefully it wears off. It would be pretty awkward to have to give your girlfriend your entire table when you go to give her the hammer,” Ochako retorts through giggles.
“Knowing her I’m sure she wouldn’t mind if the hammer came resting on top of a nice chair,” Mina responds simply. Nobara has some strange fondness for chair metaphors and loves to mention the apparent throne reserved for her dear Alien Queen in her mind.
With the hammer situation resolved Mina sees Ochako and Shoji out of her room. She thanks them both and lets them know she’ll update them if anything changes. She halfway thinks that Nobara will just pick the hammer up like it’s nothing next time she comes over and all the worrying and getting her classmates involved will be for nothing.
When they first started dating Nobara always called ahead to say she was coming over. It didn’t take long for her to have a general idea of Mina’s schedule though. The first time she stopped by unannounced Mina had nearly jumped out of her skin after being hugged from behind while putting away her laundry. She also reflexively threw some decently strong acid behind her. Her horrible aim meant it didn’t do much more than slightly dissolving her floor though. A very awkward conversation with Mr. Aizawa followed that incident.
She started to look forward to the surprise visits after that first time. Nobara seemed to enjoy randomly appearing right behind her and immediately pulling her into a hug. She still noticeably reacted the next few times it happened, but eventually it simply became another of her girlfriend’s quirks that she got used to. She tried to ask how she was doing it out of curiosity one day, but Nobara mumbled something about a creepy six-eyed idiot. When she asked for clarification all Nobara added was that the creepy six-eyed idiot was really good at math. Since her girlfriend was talking with the same tone she often used when she talked about her classmates and teacher, a kind of fond annoyance, Mina shrugged and moved on.
It's been two days since what she has named “The Hammer Incident” happened. She’s in the process of laying out her school uniform for easy access tomorrow morning when she feels warm arms wrap around her waist from behind and a head sit on her shoulder.
“You know, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in your uniform,” her girlfriend says immediately.
“I haven’t seen you in yours either,” is her reply while leaning back into the contact.
“It’s almost unfair how much cuter yours is compared to mine.”
“Yea? That bad?”
“Well, I guess it just sucks how monochrome the whole thing is. But it doesn’t restrict my movements at all like I’m guessing yours does. So, it’s not all bad.”
“It’s not so bad once I take the jacket off.”
“Makes it a pretty big liability if you have to stop to take your jacket off before every fight.”
“Do you fight in your school uniform often?”
“Yep. I always keep my hammer and nails on me anyways just in case, but if I know I’ll be fighting it’s what I put on.”
“Speaking of your hammer,” Mina changes the topic gracefully. “You left yours here a few days ago, it's on the table over there if you want it back.”
“No I didn’t. I always keep my hammer on me; I wouldn’t just forget it somewhere.”
“Then whose hammer did you leave here?” Nobara pulls away from their hug and walks up to the hammer that’s been sitting on her table for the past few days. When Nobara casually picks up the hammer, flipping it around and giving some lighthearted swings Mina feels vindicated. She knew things would work out once her girlfriend visited again. However, a part of her wants to scream because she tried to lift that same damn hammer about an hour ago and it didn’t budge at all.
“Oh, this is Mjölnir. Technically it’s Thor’s hammer.”
“Who the hell is Thor?”
“Apparently, he’s supposed to be some God of Thunder. Mjölnir thinks rebellious teenager is a better description of the guy though.”
“Nobara, are you telling me that the hammer can talk?”
“Yep. It’s pretty chatty too. It’s been itching to gossip all about Thor’s most embarrassing moments but hasn’t had anyone to talk to. It also keeps mentioning how horrible Thor’s blond eyebrows are.”
“So the hammer can talk, and it’s owned by a God of Thunder that’s currently in his rebellious teenager phase? Let me guess the hammer also chooses who can and can’t lift it. Is that why it’s been stuck on my table for the past three days,” Mina asks sarcastically.
“Got it in one darling! Mjölnir can only be lifted by those that are deemed worthy. It’s pretty pretentious like that,” Nobara responds simply, like what she just said isn’t insane bullshit.
“Nobara baby,” Mina says seriously. She can’t handle any more of this today. “I want you to put that hammer down, shut up, and come over here and kiss me.”
