Work Text:

Atlas was in his room shoving clothes, bread, and a bottle of water into a small satchel. It could only fit enough to last him a week, but he can forage for food - not the first time he would be doing so.

That's when Calypso came banging on his door. “Atlas! Are you in there? It's time for dinner.

Atlas tried to hide his bag in time but it was too late - Calypso barged in and saw. A look of confusion crossed her face before her eyes narrowed to slits.

“Atlas. What are you doing?”

“...unpacking my bag?”

The witch's voice grew stern. “Atlas.”

“Fine. I'm packing my bag and leaving. I can't stay here, Calypso, I just can't! This life isn't for me.”

Calypso's eyes watered with tears as she lunged for Atlas' arm. “But what about me?! Don't you love me? Don't you want to stay with me?”

“I don't love you that way, Calypso! I never did, I never will! Please, just let me go.”

“But can't you stay? For me?” Those big doe eyes of hers staring into Atlas' own made him feel bad, but he knew what he was doing was right.

Atlas looked away. “I can't. I'm sorry.”

But-”

“Calypso! I can never love you the way you want. Please. You have to realize that.”

Calypso let go of Atlas. She kissed the horned boy on the cheek, tears falling down her own face. “Goodbye...”

Atlas grabbed his bag, gave Calypso one last hug, and ran off into the night, leaving the witch standing alone in his bedroom to mourn the loss of yet another person in her life.
