"Trinity get out the bathroom!"
"Go away I'm free bleeding!"
"Yeah well mine just started so either get out or chuck me a tampon-" All Dennis hears in response is a groan and some rustling before trinity storms out of the bathroom. "Be quick or I'm leaving without you" she huffs going to quickly get some breakfast. For the last 4 months Trinity and Dennis's menstrual cycles have been synced and it’s the absolute worse, not just for them but for everyone at the hospital too. The second they came in the air changed, everyone was suddenly on edge worried they were going to be yelled at by Trinity or cried at by Dennis, or both. The first person Trinity bumped into was Mel who was smiling her hands clasped together, "hey Trin-"
"Not today Mel." She grumbles leaving no space for a response as she goes to her locker. Mel frowns and sits at her station, Trinity was on a war path.
The first person Dennis bumps into was Robby, "Hey Denny" he smiles walking alongside him. "You're not supposed to call me that here" Dennis mumbles looking at him with big tired eyes, "don't worry no one’s listening" Robby soothes and Dennis just sighs "see you later Mike." Robby stands there stunned for a good few seconds, he never knew how to deal with Dennis like this, most partners he had in recent years were already going through menopause so this was a bit of a flash back to the relationships in his 20's. When on her period Trinity took mostly unconscious patients - that way they couldn't piss her off, and Dennis took minor injuries that were likely to just yap and distract him. His first patient was an old women with a small laceration in her forearm, she was a dedicated Catholic and kept reciting bible verses, that only made him feel worse.
Trinity’s First patient was much more successful, she got a patient that was so drunk they couldn't function or talk which was great for her. It continued like this until around 2pm when Dennis was cornered by Robby after a trauma, "are you okay? Should I come over tonight?"
"I don't think that's the best idea, I'm fine" Dennis shakes his head throwing his gloves on the floor and not looking up. Robby nods for a second thinking, "Take this weekend off, we can go somewhere"
Dennis doesn't even entertain this simply leaving with a short "yeah maybe."
By 4pm Dennis and Trinity were arguing which was expected, Trinity had bumped Dennis into the wall and now she was yelling. "Jesus Whitaker you're being so goddamn annoying! First you fuck up my morning routine then you mope all the way to work and now you're getting in my way" She exclaims talking with her arms attracting the attention of the majority of the ED. "It's not my fault you're so self-absorbed and can't watch where you're going!" He retorts attracting Dana who had a stern look on her face "alright you two- arguing can wait for later at home"
Trinity sighs heavily dropping her arms to her sides and glaring fiercely at Dennis, "find somewhere else to crash you are not coming home with me"
"you absolute asshole-"
"What? What you gonna do about it huh?" Trinity challenges getting up in his face before being swiftly yanked back by Dana.
"New patient, south 5 go now," She demands pushing trinity in the right direction before turning to Dennis. "And you, stop provoking her stay away from her and do your own thing"
"I'm hardly provoking her-"
"ah-ah! I don't wanna hear it! go." She huffs walking back to the hub desk, "it's like I'm back home with my kids"
"tell me about it" Perlah snorts. After watching that whole interaction from across the ED Robby realised he had to do something, so he spent an hour or so working up the courage then got Dennis on the next trauma with him.
The patient wasn't doing great and needed CPR straight away, "Whitaker start compressions" Robby orders watching as Dennis unwillingly hiked a knee onto the bed and started compressions. It was uncomfortable, his thigh was pressing right against his uterus making his cramps worse and his shoulders were already starting to burn. He found himself getting increasingly angry as people rushed around him and Robby stared at him, which was strange because Dennis was never angry on his period, that was Trinity's thing. All it took was Robby patting Dennis on the back after they stabilised the patient for him to lash out.
"Get off of me! Fucks sake you can't go two fucking seconds without touching me can you? Just fuck off!" He yells before storming out of the trauma room and into the ambulance bay leaving everyone totally speechless. Across the ED Trinity was having just as bad of a time. The patient Dana had stuck her with was an 8 year old girl with a black eye 'Cricket ball' Dad claimed before going to the cafeteria for food. Before taking a urine sample or anything like that Trinity thought she better just ask, seeing as she got bad vibes from the Dad, "So this was a cricket ball right? Not a friend or maybe Daddy?" The little girl shrugs fiddling with her doll, it was a brunette barbie doll with a pink and green hiking outfit, Trinity reckons she had a doll like that. "Daddy gets angry sometimes, it's my fault"
Trinity's heart drops "does he punish you?" She nods again looking around nervously. "Alright" Trinity sighs "I'm going to be right back okay? But don't worry I'll make sure that security guard keeps an eye on you"
Trinity gets up to talk to the guard before pausing and turning back, "just um- it's never your fault okay? Never" she reassures. After telling the security guard to look out for Dad she goes out to the ambulance bay for some air. There was this absolutely crushing sadness inside her that was so new and unusual she couldn't stop the hot tears pooling in her eyes. She finds Dennis in the ambulance bay sat on the small brick wall clearly frustrated, he sees her and groans "oh great you're here." When Trinity doesn't reply he turns to properly look at her, and she breaks. "Shit- Trin-" He sticks an arm out awkwardly not sure what to do until she goes and sits next to him just leaning against him. Dennis hesitates slightly before wrapping an arm around her. "It’s okay, You're okay"
"Nothing is okay, this is all so fucked up" she sniffles
"what happened?" He asks gently keeping his voice low. "That patient Dana gave me, little girl beat up by her Dad"
Dennis frowns slightly "that's terrible"
"yeah- fuckin' sucks" she sighs wiping her eyes and sitting up properly. Dennis lets there be a moment of quiet before offering some comfort, "she'll be okay, we'll get her help. I mean look at us we both got better"
"Hardly-" Trinity chuckles wetly
"you know what I mean- it'll be okay Trin"
Trinity nods and then deems that conversation enough of her feelings for now, "why are you all puffed up Huckleberry?"
"I don't even know, I was doing a trauma and Robby kept pissing me off, I was overstimulated I guess"
"Valid" Trinity hums nodding.
"Yeah well I yelled at him and claimed he couldn't go two seconds without touching me in front of everyone" Trinity immediately laughs
"I mean you're not wrong-"
"I humiliated him-"
"he'll get over it"
Dennis nods smiling softly, he treasured moments like this with Trinity. "Right well I should go apologise"
"Yeah I need to tell Al ‘Hashimi about that girl"
They sit in silence for another moment neither of them wanting to go back inside. "Thank you for this Dennis"
"Yeah, thank you as well Trin"
