Work Text:
Dear Collei,
I hope you're doing alright. I know it's been awhile since I last wrote. It's busy over here. The Stormterror threat has been dealt with—turns out the scary monster was an old ally all along. But there's still been a lot to do. The citizens are still panicky, and it doesn't help that many hilichurl camps took the initiative and attacked Mondstadt while Jean was away. I've been cleaning that mess up all day, believe me.
Well, it hasn't been just me. There was an outlander who got mixed up in all of this, but she's been helping the Knights out a lot. We really owe her, I'm glad I haven't had to deal with all of this by myself!
Anyway, I should be back to a more regular schedule again once things go back to normal. How are you doing? How are your lessons coming? Are you doing alright under Master Tighnari? Is your condition any better?
I miss you. It would be a lot easier to deal with all this if I knew I got to go home to you at the end of the day. Maybe I'll take a vacation and come visit! But I did leave some flowers in the envelope. They're pressed so you can keep them without them withering.
Love, Amber
Collei smiled. She had been worried. Amber was usually very organized, so when she got swamped it usually meant something big was going on. Big was never better—she was really glad Amber was safe.
It was really scary to know that someone she loved put her life in danger everyday. That someday, the letters might stop coming in at all.
But for now, she knew Amber was still there. Still doing her best for the people of Mondstadt.
She found the flowers in the smaller envelope inside. Cecelias, maybe? And windwheel asters. Their red had faded to a color that vaguely reminded her of Baron Bunny.
She placed them on her desk, careful to keep her stack of light novels away from the fragile petals. It was a good reminder that she had someone, even if she was a long way away, who understood. Who cared.
It was tough sometimes, but Amber felt a whole lot closer than anyone else.
