Chapter 1: Hunger

Chapter Text

Yuuji always hungers.

It was a feeling that ate through his stomach up into his throat. A never ending presence that coated his life.

It was just a simple matter of fact; Yuuji was hungry and he always would be.

His gram’pa tried countless foods, countless dietitians. Even had doctors look at him in the hospital, but it was all for naught.

He craved and he craved for something that was unknown, something he couldn’t even put into words. His small fingers were lumpy and scarred from his constant biting at them, teething on his own body to try and sate an urge that was slipping through his fingers like oil. It scared him at first but eventually he got used to it. He ate what was prepared for him so he didn’t over eat by accident. Snacks were banned from the household, three meals a day and that was it for him.

It was tiring, but it was life.

Life was to hunger.

Yuuji was only four when he realized that was the way he was meant to be. He was four when he took to wander around the neighborhood, sneaking past his grandpa who was slowly deteriorating from caring for him. The kids on the playground say that his ma’ and pa’ left him because of his creepiness.

It was hard, the stares from the adults as he constantly had bloodied hands from gnawing at his own flesh. With Blunt teeth working on his own body, Yuuji didn’t want to be creepy.

Yuuji would like to make friends, but his hunger was carnivorous and all consuming. The one time he got spotted trying to bite on a bird had landed him bruised from the other kids ganging up on him. He wasn’t allowed to harm others his grampa told him so. He was too strong for kids his age and so eventually he was socially exiled, no longer welcomed in the parks. He hasn’t been enrolled in school yet, but he worries about how he will deal with that.

But he doesn’t know if he’s going to need to even think about school, not with the appearances of monsters he’s been seeing. He’s tried to tell his gram’ps about them, but he always told him to stop bothering him. His gram’pa was too tired to deal with him anymore it seems so Yuuji just has to be a brave boy.

He had to be brave as the monsters curled around him, brave as they made his mouth water more.

Yuuji bit further into his thumb. Another chunk of flesh was torn off his nerves in his finger's dead to him. He didn’t even give it a passing thought as he simply swallowed it.

Staring dead ahead he wonders what it would feel like to sink his teeth into the monster draped along him. The sun gleaming so nicely along its body tempting him even more.

He hungers so much.

• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

They were only in this city due to a mission sending Satoru here; Suguru tagged along just for the hell of it truly. The curse was barely a Grade one at that, so no Suguru did not need to be here. But setting his sights on the view in front of them? He's sure happy he did.

Sitting on a bench was a small kid, who definitely should not be alone, but what had attracted the two to the sight was the fact that the kid was a beacon for curses. A multitude of low-grade curses sat near or on the kid and seeing as the kid was casually stroking one of them, the kid could definitely see them.

“So... that right there is a mess and a half.” Satoru casually stated, draping himself onto his shoulders as they stared at the scene across the street.

“Think he’s active? I can’t see him being from a sorcerer family if they are leaving him alone.” He asked, stuffing his hands into his school uniforms pockets.

Black eyes tracked the busy street taking in how there weren’t any more curses in the area as most of them seemed to cling to the boy. Said boy had to have something in him, a bastard of some clan? He can’t see two-toned pink hair cropping up in a normal family.

“Mn, yeah most def~initely. Kid is totally fucked up though.” Satoru stated as he sucked around his lollipop as if they weren’t discussing the ill-fated kid.

If that was him now he could only see it getting worse as the kid grows up.

“His energy is kinda like yours actually.” Satoru casually remarked, blue eyes glancing over at him from behind his glasses. “Curse-like.”

Suguru had to bite back a grimace at that, a bad fate for the kid indeed.

Sighing, he started crossing when the traffic paused Satoru was suddenly momentarily dislodged, causing him to squawk at having his resting spot move. Suguru threw back a peace sign at the other giving a small chuckle at his reaction.

Getting closer to the kid it was even worse; the kid was blankly staring into the traffic eyes unmoving as he ate at his fingers. The scarring of all ten digits pointed to it being a long-time thing as well. Definitely not from a sorcerer family.
Crouching down beside the bench he quickly pumped cursed energy through the low-grade curses. The only one surviving was the one the kid was petting at.

Hazel eyes flickered suddenly over to them, a quick glance up at Satoru before falling down to land on his own gaze. Not once did the hand fall from the curse.

“What’s your name kid?” Satoru asked towering over the child before leaning down slightly. His hair falling around his face as he tilted his head.

Suguru could see the other examining the kid, the Six Eyes rapidly taking in information. Judging by the slight frown building up on the usually cheerful teen Suguru could guess it was not good.

“Yuuji. Itadori Yuuji.”  Yuuji mumbled finally letting go of his finger, blood sitting unnaturally on the kids' face in a macabre way that a kid definitely should not be looking like.

Suguru wants to know why the hell the kid’s family isn’t doing something about the auto-cannibalism that was clearly going on.

“You hungry Yuuji?” There was an odd weight to that question that had Suguru cocked his head before looking back up at Satoru. The unnatural blue eyes were staring directly into Yuuji’s in a way that Suguru never sees, rarely did the other ever look serious. “How long have you been hungry buddy?”

Suguru watched as Satoru tore the curse away from the kid’s lax grip before picking him up from under his arms. The kid’s legs dangling awkwardly in the air as the messed-up hands gripped at the uniform sleeves.

“Always. Gram’ps dunno what’s going on with me.” Yuuji bluntly answered in a way that all kids do. The tiny legs started to slightly swing back and forth as Satoru still held him in the air awkwardly.

Satoru turned slightly causing the kid to dangle in front of him. Sighing he pushed up from his crouch to take hold of the kid instead. Yuuji quickly settled onto his cocked hip as Satoru stood still. Suguru could intimately feel the other’s gaze pinning them down.

“Suguru, be a dear and turn this curse into one of your orbs.” Satoru stated holding up the abandoned curse the kid had been near cuddling with. “I wanna see something.”

Biting back a groan at the thought of putting himself through swallowing an orb for a weak curse he did as the other requested. Quickly exorcizing it under the other’s gazes, he manipulated said curse into an orb. Turning his attention to Satoru he held it up.

“There.”

Just as he was about to toss it into one of his pockets, mainly out of habit, Satoru took it and turned it in his hand.

“Yuuji-kun~ bite this.”

Suguru watched in dejected horror as Satoru offered it up like mochi to the kid, just as he was about to ask what the hell was wrong with the other the kid quickly snatched it from Satoru’s outstretched hand.

They both stared, one in horror and one in clinical curiosity, as the kid took a sizable bite out of the orb. Which shouldn’t be possible for one as the orbs were not meant to break like that for two.. Well.. Yuuji lit up like a firework quickly taking another bite one after another until the orb was completely gone.

Wide hazel eyes that looked dead before were quickly tearing up before a sob tore through the air.

“Got any more you can spare Sug’ kiddo’s been without for a long time. Haven’t you buddy.” Suguru’s eyes jerked to connect with the softened blue ones. “Kid is like you but worse.” Satoru softly muttered as he petted at the kid’s head.

“You feed the kid some curses and I’ll be having a talk with Grandpa Itadori. Kid can’t stay here after all.”

Suguru felt like the world had turned on its head with the way he was now set to be feeding a kid, barely out of toddler-hood, curses. A kid that he knows he’s going to have to stick by his side.

He knows he said he would love to one day officiate Satoru and his relationship, but usually a kid comes after graduation. And not a kid with a curse diet.

Fuck.

He’s whipped as fuck isn’t he.
