Work Text:
Piper stares wistfully at the fireworks tonight.
It's the start of a new year, once more. And yet, Piper's felt the same for almost every new years celebration for the last five years.
It should be a new start. A fresh clean slate. Piper should move on.
Shelly sure has.
She's near her. She hasn't even noticed that Piper's at the celebration too. She grins with the purest smile at her husband.
Her husband.
Shelly's doing whats right. Marrying and loving a man. Letting a man take care of her. As every God honoring woman should, right?
That's... What was right, right?
It's not like they were unhealthy. It's not like Shelly is unhappy. Colt takes good care of her. She's seen them, out and about in the town square together.
She was at their wedding.
She saw the pure, beaming smile Shelly wore on that day. The sun shined down on her like something holy. How beautiful she looked in that dress. How Colt held her so gently.
They loved eachother.
Shelly loved Colt.
But Piper knows that Shelly loved Piper once, too. And she cannot move on. She remembers how freeing it was to kiss her, to hold her. To have Shelly call Piper her lover. It was so sinful but it was so right. It felt so fucking right.
Piper treated Shelly like a dirty little secret. Her own sins consumed her. Yet she kept going. She kept praying for forgiveness. She held that hardened, scarred hand and...
Tears prick at her eyes. She stares up, the stars, the colorful show of the fireworks. They're all so blurry.
Despite her clouded vision, Shelly's purple hair strikes a cord in her still. The ginger next to her does, too.
Piper will never be able to love another woman again.
