Thanks for listening!
I'm striving to keep to a weekly (on weekend) update schedule for this series, but I'll admit, this one tripped me up a bit, for no clear single reason! I'd prepped a version of this podfic a couple weeks ago, but after re-recording all of The Unforeseen Day, I found I didn't think it conveyed the energy of Papyrus's tired relief as well as I wanted it to. So this one got a redo too!
Upsides to the redo: I like the overall flow of it! Papyrus's initial tension shifting into the sighing of relief with confirmation Alphys (and with her, Undyne and everyone) was okay, the trembling way of coming to terms with the reality he's been denying since the start of the series, and the various ways he scrabbles for optimism again. Sans's own lower, slower realization that things have (and yet have not) changed, the way his reaction to this first hint of a human is a little more tired than it was back in Theoretical Battle Scenarios. At least Papyrus will be happy, seeing a human for the first time. That'll make it all worth it. =)
I also tested a faster way of removing certain types of sounds, including the sharpest edges from my s-sounds (sibilants) so that they shouldn't be as harsh as I think they were in some previous recordings. Please let me know if you think it's changed, or if you didn't really find them a problem with previous podfics!
Downsides to the redo: It took me 2 tries before I managed to do the Papyrus sections without sounding like I was sick with a sore throat (I'm not). So I'm kinda worrying whether doing narration in semi-character voice is killing my throat a little, because I do a thing with Papyrus's voice which is fine in the short bursts of recording dialogue lines, but wears on me if I do long stretches of it, and... well, I'm very biased towards recording Papyrus-centric fics. :')
This particular recording actually ended up moreso in character voice than narration voice than I intended, but I do like the overall effect, so it's staying. But I may tone that down with future fics. Helps that the next fic is 1 Frisk pov and then 4 skelebros (mostly Papyrus, some Sans, and a tiny bit of Undyne) flashback time... I can test changing my narration, and if it works great, and if it's a little off, well, it's because it's a flashback lol.
There were a couple bits of the sore throat sound in here, but they weren't too badly that sound, so right now I'm rolling with it. We're again embracing progress over perfectionism, rather than trapping ourselves in a time loop of re-recording the same podfics back to back!!!!
Intro / outro music: Push Back the Hands of Time by They Might Be Giants, encore!! On account of we're now looping in the same more limited span of time of the human's resets.
Intro, I had to include the intro of the song itself, especially for "you'll need some muscles to move it [time] backwards." Flowey and Papyrus couldn't do it themselves, on account of no muscles... 😔
I figured same outro as the end of The Unforeseen Day to reflect that we're in the same looper's time frame and control. This is probably the last we'll be hearing from this song...? I might use part of it again for Interlude, but probably not, as I've got two other possibilities in mind there.
