Summary
Astoria once again missed the vibrant lights and buzzing cacophony of New York City, where she could always absorb the majesty of the city’s vitality. The Greengrass family had lived in America for the majority of Astoria’s life, having moved there when she was a young girl. Britain seemed like a far-off memory, something that she had experienced yet could not quite recall in full; fuzzy memories and vague recollections reached out to welcome her in an uneasy embrace.
In truth, she had no desire to be back, but Drucilla Greengrass was nothing but tenacious. She had decided that on Astoria’s eighteenth birthday, they would travel the continent, and two months later, they stepped foot in Liverpool with a one-way train ticket to London. What Astoria had not realized at the time was that her mother was there with one goal: to find her daughter an aristocratic husband.
