Work Text:

Sanemi put Genya down in his bed then tucked him in, happy he finally got his brother to go down for this nap.

Sanemi left Genya’s room softly closing the door behind him.

“Okay, Gen’s down for a nap,” Sanemi told Giyuu. “I have to get to an important parent teacher meeting, I won’t have my phone on me but I shouldn’t be out too long.”

Giyuu nodded, “got it.’

At this point Giyuu has spent a lot of time around Genya when he is little and has more or less gotten used to the little and learned quite a bit about taking care of him. Though he was still far from as good of a care giver as Sanemi is.

“Great,” Sanemi said, heading towards the front door and getting his shoes on. “I’ll see you later.”

“See you later,” Giyuu replied.

Then Sanemi left the apartment, leaving Giyuu alone with the sleeping little.

Giyuu stood in the living room for a few seconds until he finally decided he would be of some help and clean the dishes. With Genya asleep there wasn’t a whole lot else for him to do. He made sure to make as little noise as possible as he washed the dishes, carefully placing each plate and cup down.

Once he had finished cleaning the dishes, Giyuu went to the living room and sat on the couch scrolling on his phone. His social media feeds not offering anything all that interesting.

Genya woke up with a start alone in his room, his bed wet. Nightmares and wet beds weren’t uncommon for Genya when he was little, and he knew all he had to do was find his brother and everything would be better.

Genya grabbed Bingo and crawled out of bed, his wet pants clinging uncomfortably to his skin.

He slowly made his way across his room, opened the door and went to the room across from his. He pushed the door open and found the room empty.

Genya gripped Bingo tighter. The memories of his bad dream coming back to him.

It was him all alone as his brother left him behind. Leaving him behind because he was annoying and too much of a burden to be around.

“Nemi,” Genya mumbled.

He left Sanemi’s room and went to the living room. Once there he only saw Giyuu, his brother was nowhere in sight. He started fractionally looking around the room trying to find his brother, “Nemi,” he mumbled again, this time more panicked.

Giyuu lowered his phone upon hearing Genya’s voice.

“Sanemi’s not here,” he replied perhaps a bit too bluntly.

And in an instant the tears that Genya had been trying to hold back began to fall. The little collapsing to the floor wailing.

Giyuu dropped his phone and rushed over to Genya’s side, “whats wrong?”

“Nemi,” was all Genya would think to say, suddenly feeling so much smaller.

Giyuu pulled Genya into a hug and at first the little tried to push him away but slowly gave into the embrace sobbing.

“He didn’t leave you, he's just at work right now,” Giyuu tried to explain, but the words made little sense to Genya right now. All he knew was that his brother was gone and it was probably his fault.

Giyuu awkwardly pulled Genya into his lap trying to ignore the little’s damp pants, noting that once he calmed Genya down he would have to get him cleaned up. “It’s okay Genya,” he said rubbing Genya’s back, trying to calm him down, to little avail.

Giyuu was far out of his depth right now.

And matters were only made worse when Giyuu felt his lap grow warm and wet as Genya had another accident, which in turn led to Genya just crying more.

Giyuu awkwardly stood up doing his best to hold Genya. After a second accident he knew he had to get Genya out of his wet pants. He hadn’t even changed Genya on his own before, the idea was a bit awkward for the both of them, and the agreement was Gyuu could only change Genya if there were no other options, and right now Giyuu was sure the options had run out.

Genya wasn’t sure what was going on anymore. He just wanted his brother back. He wanted Sanemi back and he wanted to apologise for whatever he did wrong.

Then he went from being held by Giyuu to being laid on the floor, and things were worse. The floor was cold and hard, and nothing was helped by his wet pants.

“It’s okay Genya,” Giyuu cooed, “I’m just getting you changed.”

Giyuu grabbed a clean pair of pants and boxers from Genya. He wasn’t sure if he should put the little in a diaper, so he decided against it. He did grabbed the pack of baby wipes so he could clean Genya up a bit

Giyuu was careful and he managed to get Genya out of his wet pants and underwear. He then quickly wiped down Genya thighs to make sure the little wouldn’t develop a rash and then got Genya into the clean clothes.

This seemed to calm Genya down a bit as he wasn’t crying as loudly.

But with Genya now changed, Giyuu was left to clean himself up.

He got Genya off the floor then carried him across the hall to Sanemi’s room. He placed Genya down on the bed then went to Sanemi’s dresser. For now he would just borrow his boyfriend's clothes.

“I’ll be back in a second,” Giyuu told Genya, before he left the room heading to the bathroom to get changed.

Giyuu had to change quickly because only seconds after he left Genya alone the Genya started crying loudly again.

“Sorry,” Giyuu apologized to Genya and he lifted the little up, “I got you, I'm still here.”

He took Genya back to the living room, picking Bingo up off the floor as he passed it. He gave the toy to Genya who immediately buried his face into it still sobbing.

Giyuu rubbed Genya back as he tried to figure out a way to get him to calm down, desperately wishing he could call Sanemi right now to get some advice.

“You hungry?” Giyuu asked.

Genya just sniffled, hardly acknowledging Giyuu at all.

Giyuu carried Genya to the kitchen. With one hand he tried to get a bottle ready for Genya, but eventually he had to set him down on the counter. At least this time he didn’t break down again but Giyuu made sure to get the bottle made fast before that could happen.

Giyuu placed the bottle into the microwave, then grabbed Genya again. He watched the microwave making sure to stop it before it beeped because he remembered Sanemi telling him sometimes the sound upsets Genya.

“Here you go,” Giyuu tried to give Genya the bottle, but the little refused to take it, which was rare. Genya almost never refuses bottles.

Giyuu sighed and put the bottle on the counter, “Maybe you aren’t hungry then,” he said, talking mostly to himself.

He took Genya to the living room and sat on the couch keeping Genya on his lap.

Genya was still sobbing, still holding Bingo tight. He rested his head against Giyuu’s shoulder, “Nemi.”

“He’ll be home soon,” Giyuu again tried to explain.

But the idea of soon made no sense to Genya.

Giyuu grabbed the remote for the TV, “Do you wanna watch Bluey.”

Bluey was something that Genya understood, and he knew he liked Bluey, so he nodded slowly.

Giyuu put the cartoon on and Genya watched, still sniffling as tears continued to roll down his cheeks.

Giyuu took the sleeve of his shirt and wiped away some of Genya’s tears, “It’s okay you don’t need to cry.”

Genya sniffled, paying no mind to Giyuu, but it finally seemed like his sobs were letting up. Or at least Giyuu thought, but the second he began to relax Genya started sobbing again.

Giyuu rubbed Genya back, he couldn’t think of anything to say or do to calm Genya down. His only saving grace was that Sanemi would be home soon.

Giyuu looked at the time on his phone. Sanemi should be out of his parent teacher meeting by now and would be home any minute now.

But that ended up not being the case as another ten minutes passed and Giyuu was still left trying to calm down a very upset Genya. At this point Bluey had been turned off because it was just extra noise that Giyuu couldn’t handle right now.

Giyuu stood up from the couch, his new plan was to walk around the apartment to try and calm Genya down. He walked around the living room a few times then decided to pace the hall.

As they passed the bedrooms Genya gripped on to Giyuu tighter and seemed even more upset.

“Nemi, not coming back,” Genya mumbled between his sobs, Giyuu almost missing what the little had said.

Giyuu pulled Genya away from him just enough so he could make eye contact with Genya. “Sanemi is coming back,” Giyuu told him.

Genya sniffled and shook his head.

“Genya, would I lie to you?”

Genya slowly shook his head.

“So I promise, Sanemi will be back.”

Genya’s response was to simply bury his face into Giyuu’s chest. Giyuu just sighed and ran his fingers through Genya’s hair. Genya finally seemed to calm down a bit but Giyuu could tell the little was still crying.

Giyuu went back to the living room and checked the time on his phone again. Sanem would definitely be home by now, but Giyuu wasn’t going to tell that to Genya.

He sat on the couch, again with Genya on his lap, “Do you want to watch a movie?” he asked.

Genya slowly nodded his head.

“What movie?” Giyuu asked as he brought Disney+ back up on the TV.

“Dunno,” Genya mumbled.

Giyuu rubbed Genya back and began scrolling through the animated movies, stopping at each one long enough for Genya to see. Eventually a movie was picked and turned on.

And luckily for Giyuu Genya had stopped crying.

The little had his head resting against Giyuu’s chest, his thumb in his mouth and he struggled to keep his eyes open, all the crying tiring him out.

But he didn’t want to sleep yet, he wanted to see Nemi as soon as he got back.

When Genya heard the front door open he immediately sat up, and scrambled out of Giyuu’s lap.

“Nemi!” Genya ran up to his brother and started crying again.

“What’s wrong Gen?” Sanemi asked, picking his brother up.

Genya just held on to Sanemi as just his life depended on it sobbing.

“Did something happen?” Sanemi asked Giyuu.

Giyuu nodded, “He thought you weren’t coming back for some reason.”

Sanemi rubbed Genya’s back, “Why would you think I wouldn’t come back bud?”

“Cause bad,” Genya told his brother.

It took Sanemi a second to figure out what Genya meant and when it finally did click it almost broke his heart, “Oh Gen you aren’t bad, I would never leave you baby.”

This just made Genya cry more.

“I don’t mind taking care of you,” Sanemi added, rubbing his brother back more.

Genya still just sobbed as he clung to his brother.

“He’s been crying all day,” Giyuu told Sanemi.

“Has he? Poor Gen.”

“I tried to give him a bottle, he wouldn’t take it, not even Bluey calmed him down,” Giyuu explained.

Sanemi bounced his brother on his hip trying to get him to stop crying, “You hungry Gen? Wanna try another bottle?”

Genya nodded hesitantly.

Sanemi went to the kitchen and prepared Genya another bottle making sure to stop the microwave before it beeped.

“Bottle time, Gen,” Sanemi said as he repositioned Genya against his hip.

When Sanemi offered Genya the bottle he took it without any fuss.

“There we go,” Sanemi cooed.

Once Genya was finished with his bottle he had stopped crying and just clung to Sanemi, clearly very tired.

“Might be an early bedtime,” Sanemi commented.

“Maybe,” Giyuu replied, looking over at Genya.

“I’m gonna get him ready for bed then.”

Sanemi stood up and carried Genya to his room.

When he entered the room he noticed that Genya had wet the bed earlier but it wasn’t cleaned up, most likely because Giyuu didn’t notice the accident.

“Oh well, you were probably going to sleep in my bed tonight anyways,” Sanemi said to Genya as he started gathering everything to get Genya ready for bed.

Sanemi got his brother changed into a diaper and pyjamas then carried him back to the living room.

“Genya is gonna be in my bed tonight,” he told Giyuu as he sat back down next to him.

“That makes sense.”

Genya snuggled closer to Sanemi, not wanting to let go, even as he struggled to stay awake.

“You can go to sleep, Gen,” Sanemi said, combing his fingers through his brother's hair, “I’ll be here when you wake up.”

Genya believed his brother, so he closed his eyes and let himself drift off to sleep knowing that his brother will be there when he wakes up.
