Summary
The snitch flits suddenly lower in its trajectory. The change in direction costs it some of its forward momentum, and this causes Potter to gain on it, though it remains out of range by virtue of now being nearer to the ground than he is. Potter, realizing this, rolls abruptly on his broom to hang upside down. One hand is already beginning to release the handle to reach out-… and Potter doesn’t see the bludger. The poorly aimed bludger, shot off by Draco doesn’t even know which team, which has flown low. Except Potter now flies low – and it hits him right in the side of his head. And Potter just goes loose. Drops like a rag from his broom, velocity continuing to carry him forward, but his body quickly beginning to arc downwards. They’re high up, but not that high up; he’ll be crashing into the ground in no time at all. And Draco…
Draco was already chasing. He catches.

Au from seventh year- summary is from 7th. Harry forces Draco to tell Dumbledore about the vanishing cabinet, and Draco does only slightly reluctantly- mostly relieved to get it off his chest. Dumbles and Severus scheme to still let the invasion happen to protect his parents, but prevent casualties. Also, they make sure to keep Draco away from them during the invasion so he doesn’t have to try to kill Dumbles. Because of this, Draco runs into Harry at the Entrance Hall when Harry is chasing after Snape. When Harry tells him what happened, Draco says they must’ve planned it because Dumbles was already dying. Harry is still angry, but believes him. Draco has to leave to go with the Death Eaters and the rest happens similar to canon, just with the subtext that Draco is an unwilling participant and doing his best to be bad at it.
After the war, Draco and Hermione become library buddies during 8th yr- Hermione is an unstoppable force and steamrolls him into friendship via nerddom. She recommends he become an artificer at the ministry because of his work on the cabinet and he gets an apprenticeship. Hermione, Ron, and Harry are also working for the ministry, but in different departments. Draco and Hermione continue their friendship by frequently having lunch together. She tries to get Draco to join her and the others outside of work but he refuses.
Draco is assigned to work on removing a curse from a ward structure artifact, but Harry’s auror is suspicious of him and forces Harry to do weekly observations of his work. Draco thinks Harry is also suspicious of him. The misunderstanding is resolved at the end suitably dramatically, and Harry confesses his romantic interest. Draco is awkward and surprised but finally kisses him as an answer. -
