Chapter 1: First draft

Chapter Text

Coiny had always liked hanging around Pin; while she could be quite the handful at times, he still enjoyed spending time with her.

For years Coiny kept on telling himself they were just best friends; however, over time those feelings of friendship started to shift.

Coiny tried fruitlessly to convince himself he didn't have feelings for Pin until one day he knew he couldn't keep bottling it up.

It was undeniable now; Coiny loved her. After all these years, he had no more excuses; he really did love her.

Coiny bit down on his finger hard, he hadn't the slightest clue if pin liked him back or not, especially after everything that had happened over all this time. Coiny really couldn't tell if he had a shot.

The feeling lingered for days, never leaving his side no matter what he did; the feelings that he had just wouldn't soften, they only kept growing.

SPACK

The loud sound of a rubber ball smacking abruptly against Coiny's copper face rang out; his body now lay face up on the ground, dazed and surprised but not too hurt.

“It's called dodgeball for a reason, coiny," and there was fiery standing over coiny mocking him like usual, his nasally voice and distinct laugh slightly gnawing on coiny's nerves.

Nickel quickly sprinted over, helping his big bro back to his feet. "Geezer Phezzer Weezer's, Coiny are you okay?”

Corny dug his feet into the dirt, shooting a glare over at Fiery, "don't worry Nickel, I'm good” an agitated sigh escaping his lips, before walking away.

“Ummmm, hey Nickel, do you have any idea what's been up with Coiny recently?" Firey asked curiously.

"Not really… other than he has been hanging out with Pin a lot more recently, so maybe it's because of that." Nickel shrugged.

Fiery hid the wicked smile growing upon putting two and two together, quickly thanking Nickel and walking away too.

After a few minutes, Coiny had finally made it back to his room, plopping himself down on his bed.

He didn't know what to do about these feelings of his; he didn't know how much longer he could go on before accidentally walking off a cliff with how absent-minded he was being over all this.

After a few minutes he looked up. His gaze drifted to the ceiling; he was deep in thought. He couldn't put together a good way to communicate his love; however, after a bit of time, it finally hit him.

“A LETTER” Coiny shot up from his bed feeling quite proud of himself. He hopped up on one foot and did a little victory dance as he pulled over a pen and paper.

5 hours later

Now it was evening, the orange glow outside illuminating Coiny's floor now covered in several crumpled pages, and there was the coin himself, pen in hand still at his desk, his face frustrated as he stared at another blank page of paper.

“You're overthinking it." Finally, Coiny broke from his writing-induced daze, looked up, and there was Needle standing in the doorway, scoffing slightly at Coiny's obvious incompetence.

“Who are you even writing this to?” Needle walked forward into the room, stepping over the crumpled-up papers on the floor before resting her arm down onto Coiny's desk, patiently waiting for an answer.

Coiny looked down at the floor; he pondered for a few moments before finally speaking up, his voice small, nearly at the volume of a whisper: "It's a love letter for Pin."

... Coiny's copper almost seemed to turn a shade of pink with how hard he ended up blushing. Needle ended up having to choke back soft laughter as she saw the blush spread upon Coiny's face.

After a few moments, Needle's face changed into an endearing but cheeky grin. "Knew it."

“I'm surprised it's taken you this long. " Coiny's eyes started looking at the window; he was ready to just jump.

Needle's face shifted, looking at Coiny with a more serious expression. “Listen, I'll give you some advice."

“Stop trying to force your feelings onto the page; just write how you feel. It'll convey more than enough." Needle's face slowly softened, giving a warm smile, looking at Coiny reassuringly.

“So just… write how I feel." Needle could only respond with a soft, reaffirming nod.

And just like that, it suddenly came to him, his pen gliding across the page, putting his feelings to paper, every stroke filled with the love he had for Pin. It didn't take him long, and after a few minutes he was done.

“Thank you, needy-"

SLAP

“Don't call me needy."

Like usual, Needle's voice was sharp as she looked at Coiny disapprovingly; however, Coiny just smiled cheekily with a strong hint of genuine appreciation plastered along with it.

Needle let out a long sigh, chuckling slightly, “I'm going to bed now; good luck with Pin." The door shut behind her, leaving Coiny alone with his feelings.

He looked back down at the letter, giving a shaky smile, before neatly folding it in half and stuffing it under one of his pillows.

And slowly, Coiny climbed into bed, bits of his doubts nagging at him; however, after a bit of time, he peacefully drifted off to sleep.

The next morning came fast, the waking sun flowing into Coiny's room, and there he was, the little copper coin wide awake, holding an envelope.

Coiny only needed the letter now, so he excitedly lifted up his pillow, tossing it to the floor.

The letter was gone.
