Summary
Heir to the throne, twelve year old Prince Xeno spends his days reading, skipping his swordfighting lessons, and admiring the stars.
One day, just as he nears a great cosmic discovery, Xeno crosses paths with a wandering stranger in the wood—Stanley, a lowborn boy with a dark past, who doesn't know Xeno is the prince. Stanley is abrasive, at first, and sharp of tongue. But so too is he smart, comely, preternaturally skilled with a bow, and the first to treat Xeno like a normal person. Friendship blossoms instantly between them—a future king and his most elegant knight.
As the boys grow, childhood ends and a new spring awakens. Fruit ripens, and desire buds. But despite their curiosities, Xeno is betrothed and strictly forbidden from pursuing a romantic relationship. Try as they might to heed this warning, an unbearable infatuation pulls them together, putting Stanley in danger. War looms, mystical beasts lurk in the shadows, and adversaries strive to keep them apart, but forbidden love pushes them to risk it all. Some oaths are worth dying for.
