Work Text:

March 1st

It's almost spring now and the weather has been starting to warm up. Cloudy days have been few and far between and soon, the cherry blossoms will begin to bloom. Students have been busy preparing for their finals and will soon go onto their next year.

As for teacher Rosho Tsutsujimori, today just so happened to be his birthday. He wasn’t going to let that get in the way of teaching though, it was a very important time in the year for his students. He had to make sure they were prepared to finish the year off strong. It seemed the entire school had other plans for him though.

When he arrived that morning, he was ambushed by some of his colleagues who all wished him a happy birthday and gave him a huge gift basket as a joint gift. This instantly flustered Rosho, so he told them all thank you before running to his classroom.

He thought he’d be safe but—SURPRISE—his students had thrown a party for him in his room. There were decorations, gifts and some food. Clearly a lot of thought was put into this party and it warmed his heart. Some of his students had even gotten to school early just to set this up for him.

Oh well. He knew they wouldn’t get any work done today but maybe that was ok, just this once.

Rosho ended up staying late at school that day. Even if he cut his students some slack for the day, he still had some work that needed to be done. He didn’t mind though, he appreciated everything his students did for him and he was especially grateful for today. Staying a few extra hours for those same students didn’t bother him at all.

By the time he wrapped up his work and decided to head home, the sky had turned a bright orange and the sun had started to set. Rosho noticed his stomach growling and realized it was already dinner time. He had gotten so caught up, he had no plans for dinner. So with his gifts in tow, he headed to the convenience store to pick up some dinner and treats.

Rosho arrived home soon after. As soon as he got in the door, he put down everything he was holding and took off his shoes. Then he paused. Something was off. His apartment seemed to be how he left it that morning but the atmosphere was weird. Something was wrong.

“SURPRISE!” two figures jumped out of the darkness and made their way over to Rosho.

Oh. He knew exactly what was going on.

“You idiots! You can’t just break into other people’s houses!” Rosho exclaimed and he hit Sasara.

“Rosho you wound me. We came here for your birthday!” sasara dramatisizes the hit and gestures to Rei.

“We brought food and drinks. Probably better than whatcha got there teach.” Rei looks towards the bag from the convenience store.

Rosho sighs. “Alright, fine. You two can stay. Just don't cause any more trouble!”

As the night went on, drinks were cracked open and cans were scattered around Rosho's apartment. The food, while long gone, had been shared amongst the three men. They all told stories—a few about rosho—and had some great laughs.

The atmosphere was great and Rosho didn't want it to end. He was grateful for his teammates and appreciated everything they did for him today. Even if the way they did things was a little questionable.

The night was coming to a close. No-one was drinking much anymore and sleep had already consumed sasara. He was clinging onto Rosho one second and the next, he was passed out on Rosho's shoulder.

Rosho could feel he was next. He tried to stay awake and focus on his conversation with Rei but he could feel his breathing getting lighter. His eyelids were starting to feel like weights. As he leaned onto Sasara, he let sleep succumb him as well.

Rei didn't notice Rosho was falling asleep until he heard the snoring coming from the other couch get louder. He sat and watched them for a few minutes, thinking about a simpler time. Back when he was their age and it was just him and her against the world.

You two really remind me of us. Rei thought to himself. Hopefully you'll end up better than we did.

Rei felt like that was his cue to leave. There was really no point in him staying anymore. He took a blanket off of one of the couches and threw it on the younger two.

It was an odd gesture for him. He's never really been the type to care. These two are different. They remind him so much of them—he wants to see nothing but the best for them.

“Happy birthday teach.” Rei whispered with a genuine smile and exited quietly.
