Another Day in the Eggchan Empire

Summary:

This is just a small snippet of what I think it would’ve been like if the Eggchan Empire had lasted longer.
And if Eggchan started to get more controlling too.

Notes:

This is my first time showing any of my writings, so sorry if it’s bad. I just wanted to try posting something to see what would happen. I was also running on no sleep while making this, so you’ve been warned.

This is also about the characters and not the actual ppl btw.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a boring day for Eggchan. Being a ruler wasn’t always entertaining like people said it was. He sat at his desk, a quill in his hand as he wrote down the newest list of people the empire was indebted to. It was quiet, the only sound being the wind lightly hitting the large windows of the tower. Eggchan glanced up from his notes. It was a nice day outside, and because of how high his tower stood, he had a pleasant view laid out before him. He let out a calm sigh, letting himself gaze out into the upcoming civilization before him.

That’s when he noticed a purple blur soaring through the skies. Then that same purple blur landed on the tower, breaking through the glass without a care in the world. Eggchan huffed sharply, adjusting his suit as a sudden gust of wind snuck in through the now rather big gap in the window. He looked over at the culprit, who was just brushing glass shards off his wings and right onto the floor like a barbarian. Wemmbu. Eggchan’s second hand in command, his most trusted subordinate, his one and only best friend.

“Why couldn’t you just take the elevator like a normal person,” Eggchan stated, his voice calm yet still filled with distaste. “Because that elevator is slow, and flying up is way faster. Obviously.” Wemmbu answered like it was the most obvious thing in the world. He could be so uncivilized sometimes. Eggchan would have to get Horace to deal with the hole later. Great. For now, he had other duties to attend to. “You know what, whatever. Did you at least complete your duties?” Eggchan said blandly, changing topics. Trying to argue with Wemmbu would get him no where. Wemmbu didn’t answer immediately, which didn’t go unnoticed by Eggchan. He stayed silent, watching Wemmbu fiddle with a shulker box in his hands before finally answering, “Well, like, I did. I went to that big abandoned base you told me about, and I raided it and stuff.” Wemmbu stated, starting to wonder around Eggchan’s office aimlessly as he spoke. “But then this dumb group of pirates attacked me and I had to use some exp bottles to win the fight,” He grumbled, his tail flicking in a burst of irritation at having to mention the pirates. Those pesky pirates had been bothering the empire recently, especially that Jayden guy who had turned out to be the leader of all of them.

Eggchan could feel a headache forming. “So, how many exp bottles do you have now,” He asked, not really getting excited at whatever Wemmbu had to say next. They owed a lot of people, and Eggchan seemed to be the only one taking this seriously. “I only have around five stacks with me.” Wemmbu said, placing the shulker box he had been carrying onto Eggchan’s desk. It only took one look to confirm that Wemmbu hadn’t been lying about only getting five stacks of exp bottles. Slowly, Eggchan put his book and quill down on his desk, storing away the shulker box for later. Wemmbu continued to walk around Eggchan’s office, peaking into various books he had lying around. How could he be so unbothered at a time like this?

Eggchan suddenly stood up, his chair making a small scraping sound against the floor which caught Wemmbu’s attention. Wemmbu paused, tilting his head back towards Eggchan with mild confusion. Eggchan took a breath in. He couldn’t let himself get angry. Although, he could already feel frustration bubbling up. “Wemmbu, you were gone for three days. How did you only manage to get five stacks that entire time?” Eggchan questioned, his controlled tone practically demanding an answer. An answer which Wemmbu gave quickly. “They’re hard to come by, and I had to use some to survive! What do you want me to do?!” Wemmbu snapped, his wings flaring up defensively. It was a movement Eggchan recognized easily, as it happened every time his best friend felt offended in one way or another. Wemmbu did have a tendency to get riled up easily. “I want you to actually start putting effort into this Wemmbu,” Eggchan said with a frown, frustration starting to rise on him. Wemmbu tried to respond again, but this time he didn’t get very far. “I’m trying to Egg—“ “No, you’re not,” Eggchan interrupted with a sharp flick of words.

“You need to start taking this seriously Wemmbu. We owe—“

“I am!—“

“Wemmbu.” Eggchan’s voice voice was calm, but it had an almost angry undertone that made Wemmbu quiet down instantly. Eggchan rarely got annoyed, let alone angry. That’s just how he was. Wemmbu’s laid back best friend that went along with whatever crazy idea Wemmbu had. Lately though Eggchan had been more demanding. Maybe the power was getting to his head. Wemmbu stilled, putting down whatever book he had been brushing through. Eggchan exhaled sharply, taking a moment to collect himself. The wings on his head fluttered in irritation, and he looked over at Wemmbu. His ghostly white hand raised suddenly, before pointing directly in front of his desk. Wemmbu stared at the hand, tensing up. He knew what that motion meant, but it didn’t make him any less annoyed by it. Wemmbu hated being ordered around, he hated it even more than he hated sweet berries. But, if he had to listen to someone’s orders, he would rather it be Eggchan over anyone else.

So, Wemmbu reluctantly walked over to Eggchan’s desk. The desk was pretty basic, having piles of papers and journals piled all over the top of it. Eggchan stood behind it, and Wemmbu could feel his stare even though he couldn’t see Eggchan’s eye. Wemmbu stopped for a tiny second, his tail flicking in irritation. “This is so annoying,” Wemmbu mumbled, more to himself than anyone, but he bowed anyway. His light weight armor shifting to adjust his position as he got on one knee. Eggchan really was having a power trip. It reminded him of a certain yellow person he used to be accustomed with.

It was odd to Eggchan seeing Wemmbu like this, seeing him bowing like this. He didn’t put much thought into it though. This was basically the only way to get the purple demon to listen to him properly. Silence fell over the two for mere seconds before Eggchan started talking. “Wemmbu. Five stacks of exp bottles aren’t enough. Our kingdom depends heavily on those bottles, and you’re my only reliable source on getting them. We already saw what happened when we sent Wato out to get them, and I can’t have that happening again. You need to get your act together and start taking this seriously.” Eggchan stated, talking with a surprisingly harsh tone. Well, not harsh exactly, just very strong. It still made a bead of sweat trickle down Wemmbu’s cheek. It’s not like he wasn’t taking this seriously, he just wasn’t as motivated in it. This empire stuff was getting tiring. Having so much order like this wasn’t really his thing. He was the chaotic and free type after all. But, he couldn’t fail Eggchan now, not like this. Eggchan was his day one after all.

“Do you understand Wemmbu?” Wemmbu zoned back in, blinking at Eggchan blankly. He hadn’t heard half of that speech. “I, uh, yeah.” Wemmbu muttered awkwardly, causing Eggchan to let out an annoyed sigh. Wemmbu could never truly focus on anything for a long time could he. “Just go out and collect more exp bottles.” Eggchan said, his tone more calmer now even though he was still frustrated. Wemmbu stood up, brushing himself off before heading towards the hole he had made earlier in the window. “Oh, and Wemmbu,” Eggchan remarked suddenly, making Wemmbu glance back for a few seconds in curiosity. Eggchan looked mildly amused now. “This time don’t slack off as much—“ “D’aalright,” Wemmbu interrupted, immediately turning back around.

Wemmbu walked towards the broken window, his leathery wings expanding as he prepared to fly. “See ya later Egg.” Wemmbu murmured, not really expecting a response, but of course, he got one anyway. “Goodbye Wemmbu. Stay safe.” Egg stated simply, picking his book and quill back up as Wemmbu took off from the tower. Even with Eggchan’s weird ongoing power trip, they still were best friends, and always would be even if this empire just so happened to end because of a bunch of lousy pirates.
