“Then why didn’t you help?” Theo yells, his crest flaring up. Of course, he doesn’t ever expect Billy to come rushing in to protect him at the first sign of danger—fussing over someone else’s safety is pointless—but Theo was fighting for his life!
Billy shrugs, picking something out of his gums and flicking it away.
“Why would I?”

One silly mistake almost gets Theo killed. Afterward, he finds out Billy had been there the whole time, watching him struggle, completely willing to let Theo die.
