“Continuing onwards would be preferable, your highness.”
The sun is nearing its sink beyond the horizon. Nightfall will be upon them soon, leading to creatures of shadow to awaken and wander. Camp had not yet been put up, let alone found a suitable place to do so. He favors the task while the sun still grants them light. Firewood, as well, needed to be gathered.
“We’ve been traveling since before dawn.” Gar states, aiming tired eyes up at Jonathan, “You may not desire a break, but I do.”
Jon tosses a glance over his shoulder, “There is a fire breathing beast–”
A scoff cuts his words short. Gar waves off the knight's concern with a hand flap. The prince never seemed bothered by dragons. “And there is a cool, refreshing lake welcoming us.” He says, gesturing to the shimmering body of water in front of them.
Jon raises an eyebrow. Now is far from the time to relish in delights such as swimming. Though, despite the position the sun took in the sky, he was quite warm. And he could probably use a wash. Ash still clung to his clothing.
The prince gets to his feet, moving towards the sand, “Remain on shore if you must, Jonathan.”
The knight’s hand twitches over his sword handle, then hesitantly pulls it away, breathing a sigh; removing it from his waist, then what little armor he managed to grab while flames ate through the halls. He hopes his family is alright. Thankfully it is likely since Jordan inherited their father’s abilities. Jon did not, that is why he’s skilled with a sword.
“It’s safer if I stay by your side.”
Gar snorts, “And protect me from what? Water?” A laugh slips through Jonathan’s lips, putting his hands up in mock defense, when water is splashed in his direction. “Humorous.”
“The vile sea serpent that resides beyond the reeds.. or ducks.” Jon looks around, “There is neither.”
Gar shakes his head, but the smile does not leave.
