SAIKAI (再会)

Summary:

Vergil's and Nero's journey as a mother-son relationship.

yes, the title is from a Mili song. I kind of had a hard time writing this because it's kinda relatable to me AND my brain was short circuiting.

Chapter Text

When I was young and lost

You showed up, and had my doors unlocked

Like threads, petals unfold

A red kawara-nadeshiko

Laboured breaths shuddered her body. White hair violently blowing against the storm’s winds. Another contraction had gripped her, tightening from her spine to her stomach like a portal closing shut after being used by the Yamato. She grasped her navy blue coat and clutched her breaths, desperately waiting for another wave. Contractions after contractions. She wondered if she is even strong for this at all. Sure, she has dealt with multiple strong demons in the past, but, this hurts her on a completely different level. Then, the next wave came crashing down like a tsunami, and strength stopped being a question. She cried out in agony.

The rain continued to pour mercilessly, having no sympathy and empathy for the suffering soon-to-be mother’s wailing in extreme pain. She bore down for the one final time, a sharp, sheer, miraculous cry of a new life tore through the rain drops, thundering down onto the ground. The affliction had split her heart apart, raw and animal. Her wind pipe trying to grasp for the nearest oxygen molecules. Her hands trembling as she seized her stomach. She screamed, sounding so inhumane and disturbing, not a human cry, but a demon’s. That very demon holding onto dear life with a lifeforce being pushed out from her womb. It felt the impossible strench and burns. And then, abruptly released.

Her world narrowed to laborious breathing and heartthrobs moving in an ancient rhythmic manner. With the final devil’s howl, the impending future had finally transpired into this cruel, dark world. The baby laid on her coat, warm and absurdly small. The pain was still there, but it no longer mattered now, does it? She traced the tiny fingers, worshipping it as if it is a miracle. The baby, with a dusting of white hair framed his tiny face, spun fine silk, standing out from his rosy newborn skin. Beneath it was his eyes, wide and unreasonably blue, had reminded her of pieces from the sky. He looked less like a newborn and more like something that was carved directly from the moonlight. Hair like frost and eyes like the clear blue of winter ice.

Vergil’s shoulders shook with exhausted laughter, tears slowly slipping down freely on her pale face. The place has refined down onto the weight on her arms. Her hair damped from cold sweats and the rainfall. Her tail swayed family as she held the newborn like a prize that she won.

“Nero…” Her voice hoarse, yet unwavering, “that shall be your name.”

She carried the baby and wrapped him with her coat, keeping it snuggly and shielded from the rain. Her free hand on the hilt of the Yamato, a silent warning. Let anyone dare approach. She would cut the world itself apart before allowing them to harm her nestling.
