Chapter Text
“Ughhh, it’s so boring just staring at the ceiling for hours with no end.” Sonic yawned in boredom, covering his mouth as he laid down on the couch of his room. “Now that Eggman retired and the planet is peaceful, I have nothing else to do and I’m at risk of getting kicked out.” He continued to stare at the ceiling as if it was its own being.
He was always used to this kind of life, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t hurting on the inside. He might have friends all over the world, but this feeling of loneliness still remained within himself.
Sonic then looked around, hoping that there’s something he could do in this time of isolation. His eyes landed on the computer in front of him. It was once a computer that sent him numerous missions, now an idle computer with nothing to do in life. He stood up and walked towards it, reminiscing about the times when he once received missions and went on adventures with his friends. Now his friends had other lives far away from his reach, and the once hero of his world now reduced back to his old life.
He booted the computer and opened the internet. It was full of news around the world like always. “I should look for a game to play while I’m bored.” He murmured, scrolling down his feed until he stumbled upon an interesting blog.
GREEN HILLS AVENUE – A WELL-MADE HORROR GAME OR AN ACTUAL ENTITY?
I stumbled upon this horror game rated 4.5 stars by the community. It piqued my curiosity so I tried it. At first, you spawn as a distorted version of Sonic, a well-loved hero by our planet. He gives us a tour around a place called Green Hills and plays a hide-and-seek game with a friend. I browsed the files and was intrigued by the lore as well. Then, my computer glitched out, and I could see eyes everywhere in my computer, and I hear whispers even after I turned off my computer.
If this was intentional, they surely did a great job scaring me.
“A distorted version of... me? So, another faker? Jeez, these fans of mine sure is hella weird.” Sonic stopped reading and immediately searched ‘Green Hills Avenue’. He then downloaded the .apk file and clicked it as he placed his chin on his left hand and smirked.
“Let’s see if this horror game scares me.” The logo appeared, showing a digital, 3D version of Sonic with enlarged eyes and elongated pupils. His head was floating above his chest, and he moved in a weird way as he waved to Sonic. His eyes darted around, as if taking the scenery in front of him.
He then smiled and giggled. “Hello, I am Sonic.” He looked through Sonic’s eyes before turning his gaze to you.
“Tha-that is creepy.” Sonic commented as he clicked the play button.
The game played a cutscene right through Green Hills before zooming in to “Sonic”.
“Kind of resembles Spiky Hills, but with grass and trees.” In his whole life, he has only touched grass twice.
The in-game “Sonic” looked at us and giggled. “So many guests today. I didn’t prepare for such an occasion, but I hope you feel welcome in my humble world.”
Sonic raised his eyebrow. “Who else is here?” He looked around the game and saw no one else but “Sonic”. “Alright, Faker number 2, what do you have here?”
“Sonic” giggled and looked away. “How about I show you around?” Arrow keys appeared at the bottom right of the screen, instructing him on how to walk around.
“Okay.” Creepy, no wonder the blog almost mistook this faker as an entity. He spammed the keys and walked in circles until the instructions disappear.
“Let’s go say hello to Miles. He’s right over there!” A cutscene played, showing a familiar face. It was Tails, but just like “Sonic”, his head was floating above his chest. He also had one tail, and his fur is much darker.
I will admit, this is a little unsettling. He lowered his head and walked towards Miles.
“Hey Miles!” “Sonic” said, waving at him as he approached further.
“Good morning, Sonic! Have you eaten breakfast?” Miles gestured to the table behind him.
“Sonic” replied. “I have.” Oddly, the camera focused on the red rings that he was wearing.
Red rings? What are those for? Sonic placed both his hands on the keyboard.
“It’s alright. These are leftovers from the breakfast I had. I hope you can give it to others.” Miles moved out of the way, letting Sonic take them.
“Sure, friend! I’ll give it to everyone!”
He then noticed that the whole place was foggy, not letting him see beyond the render distance. “Huh, I wonder who else is here?” He walked towards the trees, where a big shadow was seen moving around. “Wait a minute, where are the red rings from earlier?”
An evil chuckle came from the bushes. “Hahaha! I finally got these shiny, red rings! Take that, Sonic!” A dog-like creature appeared, with elongated jaws and a brown hat.
“Is this supposed to be Knuckles?” Sonic raised his eyebrow.
“Ekiduna, it’s you again!” “Sonic’s” smile grew wider, his eyelids closing. He wackily waved at Ekiduna before taking out a sandwich.
“Wait, it’s for me?” Ekiduna pointed at himself.
“Sonic” nodded.
“Awww, thank you!” He quickly snatched the sandwich and gave back one of the three red rings. “Well, since you gave me this, I suppose I can give you back this one! But, that doesn’t mean you’ll get all of them!” With that, Ekiduna ran away, while Sonic himself was given a new quest.

Sonic raised his eyebrow. “What exactly is supposed to be scary in this game? Sure, it’s a little creepy, but other than that, it’s a wholesome game!”
The in-game “Sonic” chuckled. “Come on, let’s go find all of your friends!”
“My friends? Aren’t they supposed to be your friends?” He was reminded of his friends who now had different lives. “Pfff, whatever. Let’s get this going then.” Sonic felt his head go heavy and let his head rest on the table while he continued pressing the keys to move forward.
“Where are you going, Sonic? I’m right here!” He was taken aback as he heard the voice of Surge coming towards him. He looked at his own window to check, before realizing that it was coming from the game.
The in-game “Sonic” took out a sandwich and gave it to her.
Sonic looked at the Surge on the screen. Last time he remembered, they both fought and made up, and that was the last time he ever saw her.
“Where’d you get that red ring on your hand?” “Sonic” smiled with his eyes closed. “I guess you’re not gonna answer. Well, see ya! Thanks for the food!”

“I guess this will be easy. This is kinda boring, not gonna lie. Maybe I should switch to another game.”
“Sonic” looked right beyond the screen and glared at Sonic. “Trust me, this will be fun!” He giggled as he walked himself towards the next person.
“Woah! Easy there!” That was creepy! I almost thought this game knows what I’m thinking!
“Good morning, Sonic.” The next person turned out to be Blaze, who greeted “Sonic” with a bow.
The in-game “Sonic” took out a sandwich and gave it to her. “Here, a sandwich!”
“Thank you for the humble gift. I shall take my leave.” She bowed and walked away.

“I guess you want me to keep playing.” Sonic sighed heavily. He pressed the up button and kept walking to the next person. “Cream? Mrs. Vanilla?”
“Sonic” took out two sandwiches for Cream and her mom. “Good morning, everyone.”
“Good morning, Sonic! Cream, say hi to Mr. Sonic.” She gestured for Cream to follow.
“Good morning, Mr. Sonic! How are you today?”
“Sonic” giggled in amusement. “I’m as well as I can be! Then, I’ll go and hand out my sandwich!” He waved goodbye before leaving.

Before he managed to press the up arrow key, the in-game “Sonic” turned to the camera and looked right at Sonic’s eyes.
“Seriously, stop doing that. It’s just weird and creeping me out.”
“No can do, my friend!” Sonic jumped at the response.
“You can hear me, right?” He glared right back at him. He was disappointed after the character just stared at him right in the eye. “Whatever, I’ll finish this quest and play another game.”
The character giggled in response. “Looks like a dear friend is coming. Let’s give her a sandwich!” He turned away from the camera and stood still.
All of a sudden, the screen started glitching, and a girl with a pink hair and distorted figure appeared right before him.
“Hello there, Amy!” “Sonic” greeted her, taking out another sandwich and giving it to her.
She silently took her sandwich and ate.
“You’re not greeting little old Sonic?” “Sonic” teased her, earning him a scowl from “Amy”.
“...” She turned away and disappeared.

“Let’s go, Sonic! Four more friends left.” The in-game “Sonic” commented, leaving Sonic at loss.
“You-you have access to my camera and mic, don’t you?” Sonic accused the game, earning him a giggle from “Sonic”. “Whatever, I guess it’s a part of the experience.”
He moved forward until he saw a tall figure standing near a loop. “Ivo!” “Sonic” cheered.
The tall figure turned around, revealing his ghostly appearance that resembled Eggman.
“It’s you, stupid thorn on my side! What do you want?” He scowled at the character.
“Sonic” took out a sandwich.
Ivo pointed at himself. “I-Is that for me?” His eyes turned shiny, almost shedding a tear. “Y-you! That doesn’t mean I forgive you for what you’ve done to my projects!” He took the sandwich and ran away.

“Three people left.” Sonic moved forward until he saw a white figure near a cliff.
“Hello, friend!” “Sonic” cheered as the white figure turned to him. It was Silver.
“Don’t call me friend.” Silver scowled at “Sonic”.
“That’s not like Silver at all.” Sonic frowned, observing the scenario playing out before him.
“Ouch, that’s harsh friend! So, how are you doing?” He took out a sandwich and gave it to him.
Silver took the sandwich and ate silently. Then, a text appeared at the bottom of the screen. It says “It seems like he doesn’t want to talk.”

“Huh, this Silver is acting different. Why is that?”
“Sonic” chuckled. “Our friend seems to be the shy type.”
Sonic shrugged and continued exploring the area. He walked around for minutes, yet he couldn’t see where the next person was.
“Where is that person? This is just annoying.” He continued searching for them, yet he couldn’t see where the person was.
“Silly friend, he’s by the lake! Go and find him!”
“Shut up! I searched the whole lake and there was no one there!” Sonic retorted back.
The character chuckled. “He’s there, Sonic! Just go find him!”
“Whatever, faker number 2.” He sighed and went back to the lake. He could see a dark silhouette hiding in the cave, staring at him from far away.
“Oh my, are we playing hide and seek?”
Sonic almost wanted to facepalm. “He obviously doesn’t wanna see your comically big socks and feet.”
All of the sudden, “Sonic” started running towards the figure. “Hey, I didn’t press the keyboard.”
He watched in amusement as the character started chasing someone. “Don’t let me catch you!”
“Wait a minute.” He squinted his eyes and noticed the person “Sonic” was chasing after. “Shadow?”
The “Shadow” on the screen looked back at Sonic behind the screen. “Sonic?”
Sonic examined the Shadow behind the screen. He looks just like Shadow. I have a bad feeling about this.
“Sonic, listen! This isn’t a game, this world is real and this guy is an entity!”
The “Sonic” character chuckled. “Tag, you’re it!”
The Shadow in-game growled at “Sonic”. “You really like playing, don’t you?”
Sonic watched in confusion. “What is happening? Is this really a game or not?”
“It’s not, I swear! Those red rings are-!” Just as he was about to finish, Shadow exploded in a comical manner, leaving behind body parts that rolled around the floor like it was made of plastic. A red ring appeared and floated on top of his body, spinning around, waiting for someone to come pick it up.
“What the hell just happened?” The in-game “Sonic” pulled out a sandwich and placed it on the floor.

Sonic then watched as the character sat on top of a boulder and pulled out a sandwich.

Quest Completed!
“I count as your friend, don’t I Sonic?” The character started biting on the sandwich.
Sonic stayed silent, confused as hell as he stared at “Sonic” who was now facing him.
“Don’t you worry, friend! With me here, you won’t get lonely anymore!”
“Dude, you literally just killed someone. There’s no way we would be friends.”
“Sonic” chuckled. “It’s against your morals, isn’t it? After all, Sonic the Hedgehog is a hero. But deep inside, you are just... a hedgehog. Sometimes you wanna kill someone, just as much as how you wanna protect someone.”
This thing is getting on my nerves.
“Eventually, those emotions that you buried deep down will erupt like a volcano. It happened before, didn’t it?”
Sonic glared at “Sonic”. “How do you know that?”
“Oh, I know a lot. After all, I’m also Sonic the Hedgehog!”
He gritted his teeth and considered how ridiculous this situation was. “Don’t call yourself that, you stupid faker!”
“Why not? It’s true!” “Sonic” giggled and took a large bite of the sandwich.
For some reason, he had a feeling that this faker is telling the truth. Let’s hear what this guy has to say.
“As I was saying, keeping your emotions inside will only make it worse! It’s like a bottle, the more you push your emotions inside, the more the bottle fills up, and one day, the bottle will overflow, and it will only explode if you put a lid on it. That’s why you need to let it out.” His smile was the same as before. Comically large that almost reached his ears, and his elongated pupils stared right at his soul.
“Let it out, huh.” Sonic’s eyes dulled as he stared right back at the character.
“Don’t worry, my friend! That’s why I’m here. This game can help you let it all out!” An instruction appeared at the center of the screen that says “Press X to kill”.
Sonic pressed X, which made the in-game “Sonic” bring out a knife. “Whatever, this is just a game anyway. Kids these days play shooting games where they shoot each other. This is no different.”
Before he pressed the arrow keys, “Sonic’s” eyes flashed red and threw the knife right at Sonic. The screen broke itself as “Sonic” let out an inhumane noise, roaring right at his face and choking his neck.
He then jolted awake, panting hard as he glared at the “Sonic” on the screen, his back against the camera. The character just stood there, waiting for Sonic to let him move around.
