Work Text:

It started out subtle, a gentle brush of a finger, a lingering pat on the back after a long tiring mission, Satoru was trying his best really to not get caught red handed, as if he committed some sort of an unforgivable offense by staring too long at his raven haired partner when he thought he couldn’t see him, despite his best efforts, Suguru could always tell exactly when Satoru is being genuine or sneaky

On their first year Suguru was unfamiliar with the way Satoru truly functioned, but once he got to actually know him he figured that Satoru is as not as honest, air-headed brat he appears to be, well technically these characteristics can be true to some extent, but then again it’s not everything about him.

Satoru was by far the most stupidly intelligent person he had the misfortune to encounter, he could solve three different mathematical equations at the same time but would stand dumbly if he’s presented with a social or a philosophical argument, of course Suguru can never judge him for being slightly, maybe more than slightly if he’s being honest, socially awkward but it’s very amusing to watch Satoru unable to be his usual smart-ass self

So at the very beginning of their second year Satoru tried to be subtle about his very obvious admiration for Suguru, everyone notices it, the way his cheeks would flush in rage whenever someone spoke down about Suguru in his presence, the same flush that takes over him whenever the his violet eyed friend offers him the slightest of compliments about his skills, Satoru by nature is a show-off, so he devours the praise like a starved hyena.

The first time Suguru caught up to this new discovery was on a Thursday evening after they’d just gotten back from a particularly long mission, it was a first grade curse but of course nothing was ever too hard on the great Satoru Gojo, in a moment of haze Suguru voiced out his fascination with the older boy’s powers

“You really were scary back there, but it’s kinda cool how powerful you actually are” Suguru had said while kicking his shoes and not really considering how his words had affected his sliver haired love-struck friend

“Oh yeah..right me too” Satoru said suddenly looking nervous with a faint blush creeping down his neck “I mean you too!!…you were very impressive, I mean strong, did you actually say that? I forgot” he trialed awkwardly, speeding his pace so Suguru wouldn’t catch up with how flushed he really is by now

Suguru had seen the whole thing and brushed it off as Satoru not being used to compliments, but it kept repeating over and over until it was simply impossible to overlook, one time, Satoru completely let down his infinity while fighting a cruse and ended up with a swelled cheek because Suguru jokingly told him that he “looks overly attentive today”

Honestly, apart from that incident, Satoru’s little crush on him did not have any negative side effects, Suguru would never admit this to anyone but from time to time, he really enjoys seeing the great Satoru Gojo stumbling over his words like a teenage girl, sue him but the sight is just too lovely for him to hate.

Truthfully, Satoru’s crush isn’t unrequited at all, Suguru had grown found of that six eyed freak, he just never had the chance to bring it up, or more accurately, he does not know how to

“Yes hey Satoru I know you like me but don’t worry I like you as well??” What kind of pathetic confession is that, and why is Suguru the one supposed to confess, isn’t Satoru the honored one, he’s supposed to see better than anyone and realize that Suguru obviously likes him back.

All kind of scenarios kept cramping up in Suguru’s mind, it made him want to pull away and put some distance between them until all of this ridicule is over, he just wanted to stop beating around the bush and address the elephant in the room

Finally and foremost the truth reveals itself against their will, maybe not so much but being the uncommunicative brats they were, it really helped ease up the process

It was during the Christmas holidays, Satoru’s birthday had just passed, and Suguru gifted him a bucket full of his favorite sweets and took him out to get his ears pierced, Satoru did not even flinch throughout the whole process which was, as everything about him, impressive.

Shoko had gone home for the holidays meanwhile Suguru had decided to stay in their dorms this year, it was quite and he wanted to get some peace of mind by himself, also maybe, just maybe, keep Satoru’s company.

On the 24th they went out to see the Christmas trees and lights all over Tokyo, the weather was freezing cold and the streets were packed with people and tourists, Suguru definitely used that as an excuse to hold Satoru’s hands so they wouldn’t lose each other, he was very aware that Satoru, with his six eyes, could spot him in a minute between millions but Satoru just accepted his hand, giving a shy nod, cheeks pink from the cold, Suguru entertained the idea of making him blush once more

The evening went smoothly, they did their usual bickering but mostly they walked in comfortable silence, enjoying the flickering lights and the spirit of the holidays

“Hey I’m craving something sweet, can we get a drink, also it’s cold and I want to warm up” Satoru said hurriedly like he was too shy to ask but his pride outweighed his coyness

“Satoru” Suguru purred his name softly “we literally just had like two different kinds of sweet pastries” he said but still pulled out his phone to look up a place nearby nevertheless

“And you’re still looking for a place anyway” Satoru cried softly while placing his plam over his chest “ugh Suguru you’re too good to me” he exclaims dramatically then leans in to cling onto Suguru even more

“Get off, I found a place three minutes away, let’s go there and then head home, I’m already tired” Suguru mumbled then started ranting about how Satoru is always dragging him everywhere but still guiding Satoru towards the cafè anyway

The cafè itself is very simple, with cozy decoration, they hear a soft bell ring the moment they stepped in, the chairs are padded with soft beige fabric and the walls are a shade lighter, making the whole place seem bigger than it actually is

Their hands are still intertwined because both of them are too cowards to let go first, “I’ll have one vanilla latte and a piece of the sweetest cake that you have” suguru places his order politely then when he pulls his hand away from Satoru, the look on his face catches him off guard

“Satoru? What’s wrong?” He asks

“You just ordered for me” Satoru mumbles under his breath, almost unheard by anyone near but Suguru

Suguru is a little taken aback but he realizes he shouldn’t have acted without asking Satoru even though he thought he knew what Satoru wanted to drink “right, I’m sorry I’ll cancel that order-“

“No no that’s not what I meant” Satoru says rather loudly, putting his hands in front of him in defense “hold up let me just pay first”

Now that Suguru takes him in, really takes him in, Satoru’s face is a scarlet red matching the scarf he has wrapped around his neck, his eyes are blown wide and today is a rare sight because he’s not wearing his usual sunglasses, if Suguru knew better he’d say that Satoru is embarrassed that Suguru has memorized his order, such a mundane thing to be embarrassed about, how cute

After that they argue for a minute about who’s going to pay until they’re cut off by the barista’s laughter

“You guys are the most awkward couples I’ve seen so far, you should make it less obvious that you recently started dating” the insanely attractive barista with a thousand tattoos says then head off to go prepare their drink, and Suguru’s mind goes blank

“We are not together!” Satoru says sheepishly to absolutely no one, suddenly gaining interest in the color of the carpet under his feet

“Are we not?” Suguru jokes, intending to lighten up the mood a little but it ends up making it even more awkward when Satoru doesn’t reply and just keeps staring down and blushing harder, if that’s physically possible

Then suddenly it hits Suguru, what is really the difference between his relationship with Satoru and people who are romantically involved?, they sleep tangled up together when one of them is having a rough night, they hold hands and they hangout almost everyday, the only thing they don’t do is probably kissing and perhaps acknowledging the tension, Suguru would like to kiss Satoru now and maybe acknowledge the other aspects later

So he takes the coffee and the cake to go and drags Satoru outside by the wrist, ignoring all the bubbling up questions in his head about what the actual fuck is he going to do with Satoru. So he leads him somewhere less crowded then releases his wrist in a swift move and places the drink on a nearby bench

“Why are we not together” Suguru said before he could stop himself

“Huh” Satoru gives him a dumbfounded expression looking uncomfortably lost

“You obviously have feeling for me and the feeling is mutual so why aren’t we dating?”

“What! No I don’t..wait what do you mean the feeling is mutual?” Satoru takes a step back, he looks more uncomfortable than ever and it sends shivers down Suguru’s spine, he wants to ease all that discomfort away and he despises the fact the he caused it in the first place

“Satoru” Suguru calls out, voice harsh from the cold and from the crippling anxiety that’s eating him inside out

“Yes?”

“Let me kiss you” He demands

He had never seen Satoru’s eyes these wide before, he looks nervous but Suguru can see him glow with anticipation, Satoru gives a small nod and takes a step forward, an act of offering. Suguru seizes the chance to reach out and cradle his pale flushed face with rough fingers then pulling him down for a kiss, it’s sloppy and slightly awkward but it’s a start

Suguru pulls away and stares at his reflection in those frosted blue eyes, he wants to taste these sweet lips again yet he doesn’t want to overwhelm him by overdoing it, but Satoru doesn’t let him finish that thought before pulling him back onto his delightful honey drizzled lips, it lasts about a minute but it feels like a lot more, when he pulls back again for some air he notices that it had started snowing, the snow blended in with Satoru’s hair perfectly, like they were made to be one, he closed his eyes trying to engrave that sight on his eyelids so he gets to see it every time sleep doesn’t come easily

“Are we dating now or are you just going to avoid me for the rest of your life” Satoru asks, it’s meant to sound sarcastic but Suguru can hear the underlying anxiousness in his voice

“Yes Satoru we are dating now, if you want to of course, shall I ask you to be your boyfriend this time instead of kissing you?” Suguru offers, lacing the same humorous tone in his words to comfort Satoru’s anxiety away

“No need, I think I’d rather kiss you again”

They both laugh at that then head back to their dorms, hand in hand and wearing the most heartfelt smiles
