"Go on, try it!" Yaya smiled, holding out her basket of cookies. As a baker, Cosmo immediately knew something is wrong. The cookies looked alright, the heart-shaped ones are adorable, and he can tell Yaya put her heart and soul into baking these. But something feels really, REALLY off.
Like why is he feeling an ominous aura—if he can call it—around them?
The cake Toon looked up to the tall human girl, who was still smiling at him. There's no malice in her eyes, just genuine kindness. Wow, she really wants him to eat these biscuits, huh...
In that case, maybe he's just paranoid. After all, Yaya is a really kind human and she helped him and his friends escape from Twisted Pebble during a run. Everyone else in Gardenview also welcomed her with open arms, as they haven't seen another human ever since the place shut down. How she helped them was still a mystery, like how did she fly? Cosmo had witnessed her punching Twisted Pebble with surprising strength that surpassed all Toons and maybe even other humans they used to know.
With a hesitant inhale, Cosmo took one of the cookies and bit it.
Weird, why is it hard?
He bit it harder and he finally managed to eat the biscuit.
Oh.
My.
GOODNESS GRACIOUS.
THEY TASTE HORRENDOUS!!!
The moment the flavor hit Cosmo's tongue, he immediately gagged. What the hell did Yaya put into these cookies?! He coughed and choked, causing the pink-clothed human to be concerned.
"Cosmo, are you okay?!" Yaya asked with a worried tone, immediately coming to his aid. Cosmo kept coughing, trying to get the cookie out of his throat. He knew there's something wrong with these! It's like all of the worst flavors have combined into one. And the texture is like sandpaper!
"W-Wha... What did you put in these cookies?!" the rollcake asked, still coughing as he tried getting the flavor out of his tongue by drinking water. Yaya looked at him nervously as she fiddled her fingers.
"U-Uhm, I put onions, dried tofu..."
Cosmo's jaw dropped as she kept listing the ingredients she used. That's... that's not how she's supposed to use to make cookies!! He was glad Sprout isn't here right now, the strawberry would have give the poor girl an earful (though, he doubted about that considering that Yaya has super strength...)
"Y-Yaya..." he stammered weakly. "I-I'm sorry but I have to say this... Your cookies are horrible..."
While he did expected for Yaya to be upset when she heard this, but he didn't expect her to react angrily. He sweated nervously as Yaya's expression slowly morphed into a glare, which he immediately continued. "T-The onions and dried tofu are not for cookies! That's why they tasted bad!"
Luckily, Yaya calmed down upon hearing that, which made Cosmo sigh in relief. However, he felt bad when he saw a sad look in the girl's face.
"O-Oh..."
Cosmo thought for a while, trying to find a way to cheer Yaya up. Eventually, he found an idea. "How about I'll bake with you? I'll teach you the right ingredients for the cookies." he suggested.
Yaya's eyes lit up "Wait, really?" she asked, her mood lifting up. The rollcake Toon smiled back. "Yup!"
He was surprised when the girl suddenly hugged him, in which he returned the gesture with his small arm.
"I, uhm, sorry that my cookies tasted not good..." the apologized, her head down from feeling guilt. Is this what her friends had suffered?
"N-No worries, I'm just glad you took criticism..." Cosmo laughed, gently patting Yaya's back due to his short height.
"Now let's get baking!"
