Chapter Text
Kenjiro was sitting in his office, typing away on his laptop. His office was neatly organised, but it feels strangely lonely. In Kenjiro's opinion, the grey walls made everything look dull. The only thing making the room feel a bit more livelier were the pictures of Butterflies he had hung on the walls.
The door to his office opened with a soft creak. Kenjiro could already tell who it was, just by the sound of her heels tapping against the floor. “Kenji?” A sweet voice filled the room. Kenjiro didn't look up from his laptop. “Mh?” he murmured, “What is it, Lisa?”
“Well, I just want to let you know I'm heading out soon...” Lisa leaned against the door frame while sweeping a few lose hairs behind her ear, “...And maybe you wanted to eat some Chinese food at my place when you're done?” She suggested.
Kenjiro finally paused typing and looked up to meet his partners eyes. He didn't have anything planned that day, so having dinner with her wouldn't hurt. “Oh yeah, sure” Kenjiro replied, making Lisa smile.
But just as quickly as her smile came, it faded. “Oh, and don't work for too long, okay? It's already getting dark.” Lisas voice was filled with that concern Kenjiro knew all too well. “I'll be fine.” Kenjiro replied curtly. Lisa cast her eyes downward for a moment, before pushing herself off the doorframe. "Alright, see you later”, Lisa said with a soft smile. But it looked like she wanted to say more.
It was already a while later, Kenjiro was pretty much finished with the report he was writing. He leaned back in his chair for a moment. Just staring up at the grey ceiling. His mind started to wander, like it did in moments like these. ‘Is this really all I want in life?’ ‘I'm not good enough for her...’ ‘I'm useless’ ‘I'm wasting my time here’
A sudden small ding sound from Kenjiro's phone pulled him out of his spiral. He groaned, grabbing his phone from his desk. It was Lisa, asking him what to order.
He thought for a moment before typing an answer back, “Foe yong Hai sounds good right now.". He hadn't eaten much the entire day, so he was craving some good Foe yong.
He finally stood up, grabbing his work bag and putting his laptop inside. He looked at the window behind him; it was already dark out. How long was he writing for? He shook his head and quickly made his way outside.
When he was finally outside the cold air hit him like a brick. He instinctively burrowed deeper inside his coat. Kenjiro wanted to be inside as quick as possible. Normally he'd take the long way home so he could put off being inside of his messy home for as long as possible. He was ashamed of the state of his apartment, but he could never find the motivation to clean it. He was in his office more anyway.
Kenjiro opted to take the short way to Lisas apartment, through a few sketchy alleyways.
Kenjiro reached into his pocket, pulling out his pack of cigarettes. Putting one between his lips. He wasn't even craving nicotine that much, but it's just in his nature to grab a smoke when he's outside. He dug further into his coat pocket, trying to find his lighter. Shit. He must have left it back in the office, but he was already halfway at Lisas place. He pulled his coat tighter around himself and exhaled sharply.
“You want a light?” A deep voice behind him asked, Kenjiro almost jumped out of his skin. He quickly turned around, just to see a tall, dark-skinned man wearing a black coat, standing there. Kenjiro’s eyes lit up in recognition, “Ru-Ruben??” he stammered.
Ruben held his hand Infront of him, expecting Kenjiro to shake it. “Nice seeing you agai-” His sentence was cut short by Kenjiro basically jumping into his arms. Kenjiro warped his arms tightly around the slightly taller man. “Woah, there tiger!” Ruben chuckled, giving the other man a short hug back.
When they pulled away Kenjiro's eyes landed on the rings on Rubens fingers and the chain around his neck, wondering what his friend had been doing all this time.
Ruben planted his hand on Kenjiro’s shoulder, offering him a smile. “Why don't you go buy me a drink, we've got catching up to do...”
