Chapter Text

It had been a few days since the end of Calamity Ganon along with Link and Zelda’s return. I was part of Zelda’s royal guard and she had called a meeting today which is where I was heading now. As I made my way to the throne room I ran into Link, future king of Hyrule, of course he didn’t know it yet.

I had been friends with Zelda for a while, and I knew she was planning on proposing to link soon. My plan was simple, help move things along, at least that was my plan…

“And (Y/N) you shall be leading the team at Zora’s Domain!” Zelda said happily.

I froze a bit surprised. “W-what… I thought I was gonna help around here..” I say politely trying to figure out what happened. “Well I thought with your knowledge on the Zora you’d be best to help them” she continued.

Damn, I had forgotten about how much I gushed about the Zora to her. I did find them interesting and would love to take this opportunity but I didn’t want to miss it when Zelda proposed. “Are you sure you don’t want help here?” I ask giving her a look and she realized.

“I won’t need help until I know everyone has recovered from the calamity. At least as much as they can…” she says returning a knowing smile.

Link who was beside her was a bit confused because he could tell that something else hidden in our words but he just couldn’t figure it out.

“Very well, your majesty. I’ll take my leave now.” I bow before leading my assigned troop out to the stables to get our horses and sending a small group of them to get some supplies in case the Zora needed more.

Once everything was gathered it would be a five day journey there, of course if we could bring our horses it’s be much shorter. However the rock slide prevents it and we now have to carry our supplies all the way up through the monsters and possible rockslides.

“Halt! We continue by foot from here.” I climbed off my horse and picked a few of the guards to stay here and tend to the horses. “The rest of you let’s go!” We climbed over the rock slide and started our journey up being careful of monsters.

There were few monsters thankfully, a few of my soldiers were harmed but it was nothing fatal.

We arrived at the bridge leading to Zora’s domain and two guards, one a dark brown the other black, stopped us before realizing who I was. “Oh, (Y/N). We apologize we didn’t recognize you with all that armor.” The dark brown one said

“I wouldn’t have recognized me either, but I have brought help per orders of the new queen.” I give them both a grin as I give them a small respectful bow. “Follow me.” The black one said as she turned and started to walk.

I signaled for my troop to follow behind with the supplies as the Zora led us into the domain. Once in the domain I left my troops with the Zora troops and I was escorted to the throne room to meet with king Dorephan.

“Your majesty….and prince” I bowed as I realized Sidon was also there. “Don’t be so formal (Y/n).” The king answered as I stood up straight. “Yes of course, sir”

King Dorephan couldn’t help but smile at my formalities while Sidon just started to laugh.

I was a bit embarrassed and could feel my cheeks heat up, thankfully my helmet was covering most of my face.

“Sorry friend, it’s just funny seeing how trained you are when talking to royalty. You’re like a dog, and I don’t mean that as an insult.” Sidon’s laughter was dying down now, but I was still embarrassed and even more so by his comment about me being a dog.

“I much prefer cats, but back to the business at hand.” I turned my attention back to the king “My troop is ready to help at any time, just give the word.”

“Very well, have Sidon help you split up your troop and assign them to areas.” Dorphean said and I nodded before bowing and walking out of the throne room, I could sense Sidon rushing up behind me to follow me out.

I went back to my troops who were started to make themselves at home. “ATTENTION!” I hollered through the hall and my troops along with some Zora who were surprised stood up straight and lined up. “I’ll be splitting you up into groups and Sidon will assign you to areas where you will help rebuild and/or provide any needed medical attention. Do you understand?” My troop salutes in unison and I start splitting them up and Sidon assigns them to areas.

The final group was made up of a few others and I, Sidon had explained we would be doing. We would be cleaning up debris beneath Zora’s domain so there are no hazards when swimming, once my troops went down I turned to Sidon.

“I’m gonna go check up on the other troops for right now and make sure they’re working” Sidon gave me a confused look. “What do you mean, they just started, let them have some time at least” he laughed a bit at my eagerness to check up on my troop.

“I know, but they can always use some motivation. Right your highness?” I chuckled nervously, hoping he’d buy it. “You’re right! Everyone needs motivation!” He smiled, agreeing with me and I let out a relieved sigh.

“You can start helping clean the debris here, I’ll notify my people to help keep everyone motivated!” He grinned before disappearing under the water and swimming up a waterfall. Well…I’m screwed.

“Alright everyone, let’s make sure we aren’t wearing any armor! I’m not running the risk of anyone drowning!” I commanded my troops as I started to take off my armor. I had a comfortable (s/c) tunic and some Hylian trousers on under my armor.

“Let’s get to work! I want you to gather all the debris over there.” I pointed off to the right before sending them to work. Sidon returned shortly after we started and offered us some snacks. I sighed and decided to let everyone have a break for now so they could get something to eat.

“So, if I’m not mistaken it takes about 5 days to get here, correct?” Sidon asked with a smile. “Correct.” I responded as I took some of the grilled armored carp he offered. “And you guys haven’t rested yet?” He asked a bit of a frown appearing on his usually happy face. “Also correct” I took a bite of the carp.

“Don’t you think you guys should rest?” Sidon couldn’t help but laugh at how dedicated I was. “We will…tonight after we get our camp set up.” I told him with a shrug. “Oh, you don’t have to worry about that, some of the Zoras were kind enough and offered to set up your camp for you. They should be finishing up soon!” Sidon grinned and I couldn’t help but laugh a bit.

“They really didn’t have to do that.” I shook my head as I finished my carp and stood up. “One less thing for you guys to have to do! Plus with a captain like you…I’m sure the troop needed the break!” Sidon said with a laugh. “Ha Ha, you’re so funny” I made sure the sarcasm was evident in my voice.

The sun was starting to slip under the horizon, we still had a good hour of daylight left to work though. “Well, we should probably get working.” I signaled my squad to get back to work and Sidon smiled as he stood up. “Let’s!” he said before running into the water and helping get the debris.

I stuck to the shallows and got all the debris there, which wasn’t really necessary but…swimming wasn’t really my strong suit and I wasn’t about to admit that to a prince. Especially a prince who compared me to a dog. After an hour the sun had set and we went up to our campsite. It was at the base of Mount Ploymus. Most of my troop was already there but some squads were still fixing things up.

King Dorephan had even provided us with Zora guards so we wouldn’t have to stay up all night looking out for monsters. Before I even thought of sleeping I visited king Dorephan to thank him, he had told me not to worry about it. As I was leaving I could hear Sidon laughing. I guess he over heard my talk with king Dorephan and it seems he still found my formalities humorous.

I headed back to my troops campsite and made sure everyone was heading to bed, we had a long day tomorrow. I crawled into my tent and laid down, i kept my sword near me as a precaution as I fell asleep.
