Chapter Text
Kris slammed their locker shut in sheer exhaustion from the long school day. It was their last year at Hometown High before graduating and moving on to a new chapter. They tried to make the most of it by spending time with their friends Susie and Noelle, who they suspected had fleeting feelings for each other. More recently Kris has been having to play wing-human for the flustered doe.
Noelle raced down the halls with a sense of urgency towards her vertically challenged companion. “Kris!” She blurted out a bit too loudly before realizing and then quickly lowering her voice. “I need your help. Meet me at my house in an hour” she whispered lightly shaking her lifelong neighbor. The human, caught off guard by her advances, nodded mutely in agreement as they collected themself.
They stopped by their own house to drop off their belongings before making their way to the Holiday manor. Noelle pulled their arm across the absurdly large hallways into her familiar room. They both sat on her elongated pink couch.
”So um..” the blonde began collecting her breath, “I confessed to Susie today, and she said she liked me back and thought I was ‘pretty rad’. I had to contain myself from squealing! Then we planned a date for tomorrow at the park and I’m SO nervous and overthinking everything..”
She continued as Kris let out a small snicker in amusement, “I’m like, what if we kiss? I don’t know how to kiss! I’ve never kissed anyone before.”
“Me neither” Kris spoke faintly.
“That’s okay. I guess what I’m thinking is maybe you and I can do like a test run on each other? Like I’ll pretend you’re Susie and we can practice, fahaha.”
The human’s visage turned rose-colored upon hearing her request. Why would she want to kiss them of all people? They thought she was going insane and supposed that’s just what crushes do to people.
Before they could react any further, Noelle interjected to justify her reasoning, “I just don’t want to screw it up, you know? I want it to be magical with her.. for her, I guess. And, well, I’m clearly comfortable around you and don’t feel super anxious or anything. So it’s not quite the same if we tried.”
Kris nodded in agreement to help her out. They were still a bit confused of the situation but wanted to be a good sport.
“What do I do?” they ask with a bit of shakiness in their voice.
”I don’t know, let’s just figure it out! Smooch smooch Krismas” she responds enthusiastically with tease.
They reached for Noelle’s hand, squeezing it tight to hold them steady. They brushed out the strands of hair in their bangs and leaned forward. Noelle closed her eyes and puckered her lips in anticipation to receive the kiss. The brunette followed doing the same. They felt their lips marry the doe’s, gently planting them on hers. Her lips were silky soft and smelled of peppermint. They felt their heartbeat spike suddenly. They stayed like that for a few seconds before gradually pulling away and opening their eyes back up.
“Wow, that was not that bad actually!” Noelle exclaimed. “I hope it’s just as nice or even better with Susie. I think I feel a bit better about our date tomorrow. Thanks, Kris” she gave a quick hug to her longtime friend. She gave them some sugar cookies to munch on for visiting before sending them off to go home.
Kris couldn’t fall asleep that night. It was just for practice, it was for Susie, it didn’t mean anything they pondered to themself. They wondered how Noelle’s date with Susie will go, if they gave her the confidence she needed, if she would feel different kissing Susie. They eventually shuttered the intrusive thoughts off and pushed them aside but couldn’t help but wonder how or if this would change the dynamic between the three of them.
