Work Text:

These wings I have earned

They cast me as a villain.

And so, I played the part, of the villain, at least that was their thoughts.

As an afterthought right now though, it wasn’t all that smart.

But, I did my job, paid my dues after the fact, guess, from a certain point of view.

Because, I died.

But, thankfully not for good.

As despite being a Fox, a low level animal, I got a chance, to rise again.

Just like in the folklore writ by those come before, a creature from the ashes I became.

I felt blessed, I felt, good, I felt redeemed.

The Phoenix, that’s the one creature I became, but you get the gist.

As I transferred into this being so proud, with a set of flashy wings.

And as I did, I became something else.

Not quite dead. Not really alive, just something in between instead.

And yet, it’s all just fine, no complaints!

I do have my wings now as I get up there, flying into the high winds.

Singing my song, as if written for me, I have never felt more strong.

This creature between heaven and hell, as if someone on me, cast a spell.

And perhaps they did, and still I have absolutely no qualms with them or any of it.

I have no complaints to give, as in this current state, I am finally able to breathe and just, simply, to be me.

In my past life I did some wrongs for sure. Plenty of those, too many to list.

But now I can make some rights right now, no more fights though, just me and my wings flying high up in to the skies.

And when the beckoning call for any need of help arrives, I flap my wings and then simply, I dive.

Down, down, ever downwards I go, seeing those, desperate ones in need.

And as if writ once again, I do my thing, and I help them.

But don’t get me wrong.

A superb Fox I am not, but I care what happens to all of  you lot.

A Phoenix, a Fox, doesn’t really matter all that much.

The important thing I can take away from this simply is;

I am who I am and that has to be it.

Dead, alive, somewhere in between, a creature never before having been seen?

I am Fox, the Phoenix, never to be stopped.
