Follow you wherever you lead
“So I was thinking about…”
“About what, Din?”
“About, you know… what happens next, with us, if there is that.… us…” Din was being vague again, not on purpose, just because, it was Din.
“Well, I guess …”
Their gazes locking, those pesky lingering feelings the two very different men having felt since first meet all that time ago.
It was when the two had agreed on shared custody over Grogu. The idea to give the Kid the best of two worlds. Only this agreement having ended up the two adults also seeing each other in the process. And it was also when they started chatting and socialising with one and other more and more. And so, ending up in this point in time where the feelings having grown beyond the necessity of their situation. Harbouring thoughts and feelings they weren’t really well equipped to deal with. Or were they?
After all the two were on very different paths from one another. Not to mention they very different people only sharing Grogu's wellbeing between them. A Mandalorian and a Jedi, an odd combo if any.
But then again, there was much more than that there. They were humans, both of them with feelings and emotions of their own no matter what their cults just might have insisted.
Din especially was finding it harder and harder to leave when the time was up and his ship awaited for the return trip back to, well, wherever. Din having stayed sometimes shorter, sometimes longer times on the planet were Luke’s Jedi School was situated on.
And right now, Din did not really want to leave, at all.
Guess, this was stronger than them both, this, shared whatever it was between them and it was getting difficult for either of them to handle.
“Yes, Luke?”
“I… have thought about, well, asking you to stay here, with me and Grogu.”
Luke’s confession a surprise, but then not really as big as that. Guess Din’s spidey senses had told him the truth after all. That the Jedi did indeed harbour feelings for him.
“Yeah? Because of Grogu you mean?”
An excuse, but not the reason. Still Din wanted to be sure.
“Yes, but also, because if me.”
“You?” Poor Din, so insecure when it came to his feelings for anyone, well, except Grogu.
“Yes Din, I want you to stay here because I would love for you to be around… for good.”
“Oh.”
“Yes.”
“So you mean?”
Luke was finding this conversation as difficult as Did did. But he needed to get his message through loud and clear even if Din wasn’t making it any easier for the Jedi.
Luke stepped closer to Din. Close enough they were almost toe to toe.
“What I mean is, I want you to stay here with me, as my life partner. “
And so it was all out there for the galaxy to hear, well Din at least.
Din only stared into Luke’s eyes. The man unable to respond even if Luke had told him exactly what he wanted to hear. The exact right words he too wanted to say.
Guess, well, Din needed to slap on a pair. But then, he did.
“I… accept.”
Luke smiled as did Din.t
The deal soon enough sealed with a gentle kiss, their very first shared between them. The one of many more to follow they knew it to be, even if the words were difficult to utter.
