Summary
“This is the friendship song, right?”
“Uh-huh,” Taylor nods, raising her chin but still looking past Karlie’s head. “So, yeah. I was thinking, um, I mean I was thinking of this, um,” Taylor falters, eyes closing for a second, “this girl when I wrote it.”
“Oh.”
The tightness in her chest grows to be almost unbearable, throat closing in as she tries to get the words out. She’s so scared she feels almost twenty-five years old again. She’s held on to this secret for so long and she’s about to just say it. It’s as if there are two Taylors inside her — one trying to shut her up and continue her life just like it has until now, while the other begs her to say something, unable to bear never finding out what would’ve happened it she had just confessed.
“But- but I think I was also, um, maybe thinking of you.”
