Test Tube’s talking to me about science – specifically her favorite subject, Bot.
“So, that’s the property I mainly focused on to create Bot’s body systems.” the girl continued her ‘college lecture’. “I did my best to include everything a human has and made them AFAB because the original Bow was trans, so that they were a robot wasn’t as noticeable to them. But that led to some awkward conversations.”
“Of course you’d do that. If I was trans, I’d like that. But I’m a demiboy. Yeah. I think?” I continue on, and Test Tube eventually cuts him off.
“How’d you figure out you were not gender-conforming?” she asks, “just curious, and no need to answer.”
“I just– I knew that something was off. Like a puzzle piece in the wrong place. And then I found where the piece went.” I answer – “and now, I have to be scared. Trans people in Kansas can’t drive anymore. What if the terrors of that come here to Inanimate Insanity?”
“That’s fucked up, what’s happening there. But I doubt it will come here, Fan.”
I hug her suddenly. It feels good, warm, and safe. Something I haven’t been able to feel in a while, without the show to cling to.
“I love you,” I mumble, “I mean it.”
“That’s unexpected,” she says and hugs back. “But, I love you too, Fan. I would do anything for you.”
We sit in each other’s embrace for a moment.
“Do you think we’d be together in another universe?”
“Only if the stars decide.”
The sky is full of oranges, purples, and reds
matching the color of her irises.
“Your eyes are pretty,” I remark thoughtfully, “just like the sunset.”
She laughs.
She reminds me of the light in my life, how there’s not just the show, but much more out there.
That there’s someone that can be home.
