Chapter Text
It was three am, the moonlight shown in the window, rain pattered against the reinforced panes, soft snores came from a room a few doors down and the soft pattering of a cat padded down the hall.
Mattholomule laid on the floor of Gus' room, thinking about how he got here in this cozy but unfamilar atmosphere. The rain had started earlier a few hours into them fixing the graveyard so Gus dragged Matt quickly to his house and insisted that Matt sleepover, to which the latter begrudgingly agreed. They had watched some crappy human movies, talked about comics, and sketched some ideas for the ruins; but eventually they had to go to sleep which is why Matt is laying on the floor, staring pointedly at a shadow in the corner.
He could swear there was something hiding there, he just knew, somehow, if he looked away or showed fear something would happen.
After a few long minutes of staring into the darkness, seeing shadows move and flinching at the slightest movement in the corner of his eye, a thought came into his mind. "What if someone comes in and kills or hurts Gus whenever I fall asleep."
He sat there for two minutes with the thought plaguing the front of his mind before mustering up the courage to get up and go to Gus' bed. Gus had previously suggested sleeping in the same bed after they both had showered and changed, to which Matt strongly disagreed with but now he did not care, he just wanted Gus to be safe in any scenario. He lifted up the soft wool blankets and snuck into his covers, shifting them so his back faced the window and Gus was wrapped in his arms facing the wall.
Matt could still see the shadows moving and contracting in the corner of his eye but he knew if there was any real danger, Gus would be okay, because what killer would have a knife long enough to go through two people?
Thats probably why it took only a minute for Matt to drift off to sleep. A rather comfortable minute of warmth, a minute of listening to Augustus' quiet snores and breaths, a minute of holding someone he cared for.
