JudeLow snickered from his place beside Sharpness on their couch. They sat close together, both reading the trail of messages and comments from Sharpness’s communicator.
“Tai looks crazy saying this.” Jude said, his non-mechanical ear twitching in amusement.
“Tai’s a chungie.” Sharpness responded. He leaned more into the rabbit hybrid's side.
“Mhm.”
They stayed like that for a while, comfortably tucked next to each other, reading guesses and comments from strangers on the internet. And also occasionally laughing at Tai’s nonsense.
Truthfully, the only reason Sharpness didn't show up was because he knew the moment he stepped into the arena he’d be flooded with questions from the other fighters. And the moment he stepped out of the arena a barrage of reporters would hold him hostage.
Judging by how Tai was acting online, he would interrogate Sharpness about him dating JudeLow as soon as he saw him.
How Tai guessed that he was dating Jude, he had no clue. People reasonably pointed out that they had no connection, and likely had never met. Maybe Tai was some kind of mind reader… Nah, if he was a mind reader he wouldn't lose in pvp so often. Whatever method he used to find them out, Sharpness was reluctantly impressed.
Judes ears perked up suddenly. “Bro. Sharp.”
“What?” Sharpness said curiously.
“You know how Tai said that whole thing about how you never ‘share facts about yourself’ and stuff?”
“…Yeah?” Tai was right, as annoying as it was, about that. Sharpness, though not intentionally, was seen as very private in the public's eyes. Why was Jude bringing that up now?
“Well.” Jude pulled up Tai’s account on the communicator and held it at Sharpness's eyelevel. “Remember how you said you might, just to prove a point?”
Oh. Sharpness was starting to see what Jude was implying.
“You think we should reveal something about me?”
“I think this is a perfect opportunity to troll Tai.”
Sharpness could tell by the glimpse in JudeLows eyes that the rabbit hybrid was already thinking up a plan.
“…What do you have in mind?”

The sun beat down on Sharpness’s armored back as he stood on the hot sand of the Strength Arena. The roars of the crowd from high up in the bleachers nearly made his ears ring. He smiled, they were chanting for blood.
He could almost feel the anticipation from the fans and haters alike. The audience turnout increased due to the end of his short hiatus, and that didn’t take into account the thousands watching the show streamed live to hundreds of servers.
Sharpness eyed the figure on the other side of the arena from behind the trimmed netherite helmet. He flexed his grip on the handle of his still-sheathed sword.
The announcer's voice echoed through the structure. “Welcome, welcome! Here in Strength Arena we have only the best fighters for your entertainment.”
Sharpness thought you could hardly call some Strength members ‘the best’ but who was asking him.
“Today, we have the return of a fan favorite… Give a round of applause for Conexion!”
He may not be there for the crowd's admiration but, sue him, it was nice to be cheered for.
“And for his first match back, we'll see a rematch against the one and only Tai!”
Sharpness’s eyes locked with Tai’s. The other fighter cupped his hands to his mouth and yelled from the other side of the arena.
“I know what you are!”
Instead of responding, Sharpness gestured to the side of his helmet and made an exaggerated shrugging motion, pretending he couldn’t hear Tai.
Tai frowned in annoyance and opened his mouth to yell something else when—
“Fighters, ready up!”
Sharpness checked the clasp on his helmet to make sure it was ready. He pulled his gleaming sword from its sheath, watching Tai do the same.
Adrenaline stirred in his body and he felt a smile creep onto his face. The thrill of the fight was intoxicating. Even a week away from this for too long in Sharpness’s opinion.
“3… 2… 1… Fight!”
Both fighters sprinted forwards from their opposite ends of the arena, Sharpness watched with Sharp eyes as Tai brought out a yellow-orange potion from his inventory and chugged it down. A strength pot.
Sharpness felt code particles swirl through the air as his own potion materialized in his hand, swiftness. He splashed it at his feet just as he reached Tai.
The familiar sound of netherite clashing rang through the air when they met. They had fought so much that Sharpness already knew each move Tai might use.
Light blue particles drifted from redstone-trimmed boots as Sharpness danced around Tai's swings. The strength pots made both of their strikes hit harder, but Sharpness was calm, his opponent's sword never even scratched his armor.
Tai grew annoyed as the fight drew on with Sharpness dodging and blocking every blow.
“Bro, stop dodging and just fight already!”
“If I fought for real then the fight wouldn't last 3 minutes.”
Tai barked, “Stop projecting!” before taking a stab at Sharpness’s chest.
The blond swiftly stepped back and reflected the blade off to the right. Quickly reaching forward, he pushed Tai just enough for him to lose his balance and stumble back embarrassingly.
“Just fight already, bro!” Sharpness had to bite his tongue to keep from laughing at how upset Tai was.
Well, if he wanted him to fight so bad, then he would do just that.
Before Tai could properly regain his bearings Sharpness summoned a strength potion of his own and swallowed it down.
Using the few seconds he had left of the swiftness effect, he darted behind Tai. The midday sun glinted off the edge of his netherite sword as he spun it in his hands, driving the pommel between the other's shoulder blades. Sharpness swept a foot beneath Tai, tripping him as he was pushed forward.
Tai's arms pinwheeled as he struggled to regain his balance, only for Sharpness to drop him to the ground, pinning him with a heavy boot to the back. Tai's sword clattered to the ground a few blocks away.
“I thought you wanted me to fight, Tai? How’d you lose already?” Sharpness smirked down at Tai from beneath his helmet.
“Bro. Shut up, bro. You caught me off guard.” Tai pressed gloved hands to the sand-covered arena floor and tried to buck out from under Sharpness.
“You shouldn't have had your guard down in the first place.”
Sharpness could almost hear the gears whirring in Tai's head as he thought up a comeback. A metaphorical lightbulb appeared above the raven's head and a shiteating grin formed on his face.
“Well at least I don't have my guard up so much that I'm too scared to even show my face.”
Ah, old reliable. Talking about Sharpness being so unknown was Tai's go-to. All the better for Sharpness this time.
Sharpness reached up to the pre-loosened clasp on his helmet and carefully undid it. Tai watched on with wide eyes, half his face still pressed to the sand.
Gloved hands grasped the side of Sharpness’s redstone-trimmed helmet and lifted it off his head. He took a breath of fresh air as golden locks spilled down his shoulders.
Charcuse eyes met black ones as Sharpness looked down at Tai's shocked face.
“Well, Tai?” Sharpness tucked his sweaty bangs out of his face. “What about now?”
Tai looked like a fish out of water as wordlessly opened and closed his mouth. Not that Sharpness could blame him, the whole point of his and Judes idea was that Tai would never expect him to actually face reveal.
“…You’re such an asshole, bro, like actually.”
“Whatever makes you feel better about your loss.” Sharpness lifted his sword and swung down at Tai's back, watching with satisfaction as he died with a puff of smoke.
Sharpness finally tuned back into the cheers from the audience. He didn’t need to listen too hard to know his little stunt left the audience rabid. It would be in his best interests to leave since the round was over.
Before the announcement of his win even played, he was walking through the interior rooms of the arena towards the fighter locker rooms.
Judging from the suspiciously Tai-sounding complaints drifting from the locker room, the other fighter had respawned.
“Bro, I swear he did that on purpose just to bully me!” Sharpness heard Tai say just as he entered the room.
“Speak of the devil…” N00b, a friend of Tais and another fighter, said when he spotted Sharpness.
Sharpness kept a careful blank face as he collected his things from his locker. It may have been planned ahead of time, but he still wasn’t used to walking around with his face exposed. His fingers inched towards the helmet ticked under his arm.
He removed the recognizable armor and placed it in his inventory. Hopefully that would allow him to slip past the swarms of people waiting for him.
When he turned to leave he found Tai standing at the only exit to the locker room.
“Tai,” Sharpness’s accent could be heard without the helmet muffling his voice. “still salty about your loss?”
The other fighter scoffed in response. “The only reason you won was because I wasn't ready!”
Like Tai had ever won a fair fight against Sharpness.
“But that's not what I wanted to say.” Oh?
N00b made a ‘go on’ motion with his hands off to the side.
“Sorry if I made you feel pressured into revealing stuff about yourself, or something.”
“Tai, you couldn't make me do something if you tried.”
“Ok so shut up.”
Still, Sharpness appreciated the thought.
“Thanks,” Sharpness smiled and maneuvered past Tai and out the door. Before he was completely out of earshot he heard one last exchange.
“Also I know you’re definitely dating Jude but no one believes me!”
“Dammit, Tai.” N00b said, exasperated.

Sharpness made it to spawn with relative ease and only a few camera flashes in his direction.
The walk to his and Judes base was quick, partly due to Sharpness not having heavy armor to weight down his steps. He quickly stepped down the stairs and called out.
“Jude! I'm back.”
“Over here.”
Sharpness plopped his armor down on its stand and walked into the newly-made living room to find the rabbit hybrid draped across their couch, scrolling through his communicator.
Jude sat up and motioned for Sharpness to sit next to him.
An arm wrapped around Sharpness’s waist and he slumped against JudeLow, head resting on the hybrid's shoulder.
“I was watching the fight.”
“It was just against Tai, nothing impressive.” Sharpness responded. He and Jude both knew Tai wasn’t the best fighter. Though, he was pretty sure Tai had some connection to the arena owner that kept him in.
“What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn't watch all your fights? Plus, it was funny seeing him get so mad.”
A warmth grew in Sharpness’s chest at Judes words. The rabbit hybrid was a comforting presence as the exhaustion from the day finally hit Sharpness.
“Whatre you looking at?” He looked at the communicator in JudeLows hand.
“Tai crashing out online again.” Jude smiled and turned to face Sharpness. “Speaking of, did he say anything about his ‘theory’ when you fought?”
Tai's ‘theory’ being that Sharpness and Jude were secretly madly in love. Though, looking at the amused glint in Judes eyes, feeling his arm wrapped around him, Sharpness couldn't say that Tai was wrong.
“Something about knowing ‘what I was’?” He wasn’t entirely sure what that meant but, judging by the laugh Jude let out, it was some joke he wasn't in on.
“What’d Tai say?” Sharpness said. He could hear the tiredness in his own voice.
“Want me to read it to you?”
“Mhm.”
“Alright.”
Sharpness’s eyelids drooped closed to the tune of Jude softly reading. A soothing voice and warmth of his lover’s presence lulled him to sleep.
