Summary
At the Ashford Tourney, Aerion Targaryen is shamed before the court by a black-armoured stranger who nearly kills him in the sword competition and then removes her helm to reveal herself as Visenya Belaerys, Commander of Asshai.
She has crossed the world to bargain for aid against the dead gathering near Stygai.
By morning, the price of that aid is set: when the war is over, Visenya will marry Aerion.
He despises her. She despises him. Egg stows away. Asshai waits.
And somewhere between the humiliation, the bloodshed, the dead things in the dark, and the ruinous attraction neither of them wants, Aerion begins to change.
