Summary
On the 21st of March, 2015, Harry Potter learns that Hermione Granger is dead. By the end of that same morning, he is standing in a hallway holding a four-year-old girl he has never met—honey-coloured curls, red spectacles, a worn stuffed lion clutched to her chest—who has been left to him in her mother's will.
Hermione Granger was many things: the brightest witch of her age, a tireless champion of Magical Beings rights, and the great progressive hope of a wizarding world still sorting itself out from the wreckage of war—their candidate, their promise, their next chapter. She was also, once, Harry's closest friend.
Rose Beatrice Granger is the most important thing she ever made, and the most important question she ever left behind. To understand her, Harry will have to go back—to the years before the silence, before the distance, before everything went wrong in the way that things go wrong when people who should know better are too afraid to be honest. A tragedy of errors. Many broken hearts. And a little girl with her mother's curls who knows, somehow, rather more than she should.
