Chapter 1: What a chase? and all for me!

Chapter Text

journal entry #1 unknown writer

Hunger is a natural drive
a need you can’t control

you take
and take
and receive.

yet we always need more.

after some time that hunger grows,
you need more even after food,

more.

it’s not food that you want anymore,
you want experiences,
items,
places,

stimulation

piece by piece,

bite by bite,

you find things,

maybe the hunger will leave for 5 minutes,
maybe 10,

in the end,
i suppose i just need that short distraction,
because without it

i’ll stay hungry,

and maybe,
the hunger won’t be physical ever again.

No one could have predicted the outbreak.
At first, it happened slowly.

People started going missing.

Others got less and less sane.

And the ones who weren’t sane to begin with?

They were the worst.

Ten had been at Eight and Two’s treehouse for a while now.

walking outside casually wasn’t the best option anymore.

There was no TV.

No news.
Resources were getting harder and harder to find.
Drones helped for a while, but lately even those hadn't been working so well.

Some of the "people" out there had started attacking them.

That created a whole new problem.

Ten stared at the wooden wall of the treehouse

There used to be more to do here

Sure,
it had always been small, but he’d never really noticed how empty it felt.

Eight and Two had been trying to find the others.

It had been about a month.

They’d managed to contact the Zeros, they seemed to be doing fine.

Four and X, on the other hand were trying, and failing to figure out what had caused all of this.

Two and eight had let them stay here for a while
good they had a tree house...

They would probably arrive soon.

But none of that really mattered right now.

The treehouse was nice.
Safe.
But it was small.

They couldn’t all stay here forever.

Something was wrong.,

That part was obvious.

What wasn’t obvious was why
no news

They have no explanation.

They had simply stopped going anywhere.
And Ten knew one thing for certain.

This was bad.

And it was only going to get worse.

The treehouse door suddenly burst open.

They wore the most excited expression Ten had probably EVER seen.

“FOUR AND X ARE HERE!!”

Two practically dragged Four through the doorway.

X followed walked in normally

Four crossed his arms, already annoyed.
“I don’t really want to be here.”
“I’d rather not have you guys die?"
Two immediately cut him off, ignoring the complaint entirely

“Ugh,” Four muttered.

They looked around, there wasn't really much anyone could do here?

was this where he was supposed to stay??

yeah no.

“i’m not staying here.”

“Four stop being a baby.”

“IM NOT?”

they bickered back and forth,

after a while everything calmed down.

two and four were finally speaking civically.
Eight was reading,
x was sitting next to two and four.

ten was staring out the window,

was this going to be every day? they would eventually die right? would they be safe?

suddenly,
there was movement in the forest,

light.

from… a window?
was that… always there?

They wanted
and wanted
and now it was easy to take

fear from everyone made it more fun.

He dragged his fingers across the patterns that covered the walls,

cold silver.

it was such a find,
they all were so… easy.

it was amazing.

he wandered through the now empty home,
it forgot how fun it was to do things like this. he wanted it again.

and again.
and again.
