Thunderous footsteps resounded throughout the house, darting from room to room in a disorganised panic. Meanwhile, Shadow Milk casually sipped on his morning tea, pinky finger raised perfectly.
He awaited patiently for Pure Vanilla to finish thumping around upstairs, and, when he finally ran into the kitchen, Shadow Milk couldn't help but laugh.
Pure Vanilla's hair was strewn out of place, his face flushed, breathing heavy, wide open eyes darting around as if they were doing all the seeing and not his staff.
"Good morning~" Shadow Milk chirped and pushed a second steaming teacup towards him. "Running late?"
"Thank you. You could tell?" Pure Vanilla took the cup to his lips and drank a few sips, pleasantly surprised when he noticed Shadow Milk hadn't brewed it with salt instead of sugar.
"Oh, but if only someone had tried to wake you up! Hm..." Shadow Milk shrugged, pretending to be too indulged in his own tea to care.
"I know, I know, I really thought I'd only rest for another five minutes..." Pure Vanilla gulped his tea back, no time to spend admiring the flavour. "And now I'm going to late for the lesson and— Ugh, is it too late to find a substitute?"
Shadow Milk got to his feet and held Pure Vanilla by his shoulders, lightly rocking him forward. "Now, now, if you didn't teach them healing magic, then who could?"
Pure Vanilla sighed, bringing the cup to his lips to finish the other half of his tea. "Or I could take today's lesson off..."
"Perhaps I'm a bad influence on you." Shadow Milk gave him a jab to the forehead, a drop of tea spilling onto the former king's chin. "Hm..."
His mismatched eyes darted down to the droplet, and then to Pure Vanilla's hand that was ready to wipe it away. Before he could though, Shadow Milk bent down and kissed the tea away, smudging the excess into his skin.
"Oh?" Pure Vanilla's face heated, and he planted a hand on Shadow Milk's neck gently. Shadow Milk smirked and obscenely licked the rest of the tea away, delighting in how Pure Vanilla instead recoiled away in disgust. "Shadow Milk!"
"What? Did I do something wrong?" Shadow Milk grinned and tilted his head to the side, his hair swishing with the movement.
"That's unhygienic, bluebird." Pure Vanilla wiped his face with the back of his sleeve. He then stood up with a grunt, popping his back as he stretched. "I need to get going or I'll be late."
Shadow Milk followed behind him as Pure Vanilla walked to the door, bag in hand. "And you have your books, your lunch, your planner...?"
"Yes, yes, yes, I think I have everything." Pure Vanilla opened the door, one foot already on the concrete steps down to the pavement. "I'll see you this evening?"
"Maybe..." Shadow Milk thought to himself, propping a finger on his chin like he were contemplating deeply. "Or I'll visit you at lunch if I get bored."
"I'll see you later then. Love you so much." Pure Vanilla smiled at him, face bright enough to light up a room.
"Love you too." Shadow Milk said, leaning against the doorframe. Once Pure Vanilla had made his way down the steps and began jogging along the pavement, Shadow Milk shut the door behind him, ready to finish his tea and then peruse the markets.
What he didn't expect, however, was the front door to reopen and for Pure Vanilla to run back inside. "I forgot something!"
"What was it, Nills? Wallet, keys, brain— Mmph!"
A pair of warm, soft lips collided with his before he could react. Shadow Milk could taste, for a brief moment, the sweetness of the tea and the mintiness of toothpaste on Pure Vanilla's breath. And then he pulled away.
"That was very important, couldn't have forgotten that." Pure Vanilla let out a light laugh before scurrying back out the door, leaving Shadow Milk standing there.
He put two fingers up to his lips as if feeling the fuzziness Pure Vanilla left behind, more specifically left to resonate in his entire body. Then he smiled.
How sweet.
