Work Text:

You sneak up on Chief.

You know he's already fully aware of your presence, even if he weren't presently fully clad in Mjolnir armor.

You pretend you're sneaking, and he seems amused enough to play along with your game. Legs bent at the knee and footsteps fall silent as you carefully avoid his line of sight, freezing as he rolls his shoulders in an idle, almost routine manner.

Waiting patiently for the perfect moment to strike, you take your usual and most comfortable position from the backlines. You take a moment, calculating the distance you’d need to jump and land your ‘shot’, sights fixed.

You leap, having to gap quite a distance just to smack the space between his shoulders.

In the absence of your hand, a puffed sticker now sits slightly off center.

Predictably, he hardly reacts.

"Not going to tell me what it is?" He reaches around for it, gloved hand just barely missing the space.

Well, the game's over... for now.

"No, not if you're going to just take it off."

You get a green wink of confirmation on your HUD from him, one you return.

You hold the booklet close to your chest to not reveal your future additions to the Chief. You move quickly to plaster another against his shoulder, right on the armor padding. He turned his head to it and saw the shimmering texture of a... dog? Or some kind of furry animal.

You dart under his now raised arm.

Then, before he can finish taking it in, you're smacking little flat hearts in all colors and sizes against the front of his chest plate.

His head tilts down to you, curious at your own visor. It took a long time to begin to try reading the subtleties of Chief's expressions.

You certainly test a lot of the other Spartan's patience.

The Spartan lowers himself, giving you better access to his upper half. An opportunity and blessing you waste no time in christening with a rainbow sticker you put on the side of the helmet's cheek.

Touching a Spartan in such a casual manner was a privilege for anyone. A privilege you feel proud of, sure, pride in the casual way you are able to approach the Chief like no one else would likely dare to. Not too many ODST were keen to get this close.

Nonetheless, your grin is evident behind the visor of your helmet, now having his own moved to level with yours.

He reaches his hand out, head nodding at the booklet. It's his turn now. You stick a final little candy heart onto his wrist before handing the booklet to him.

Chief straightens himself from his previous slouched stance, flipping through the pages of juvenile colorful stickers. Hearts, rainbows, sprinkles, donuts and unicorns. Some glittery, others raised, a few plain. A lot of empty spaces that now occupied the surface of the man’s armor.

You watch him, not at all surprised as he takes his time to sort through them before settling on something he’s keen to not spoil for you. He holds the book tilted upward and away from your prying eyes.

He bends the page, awkward and perhaps a bit too delicate for his thick gloved fingers. It finally budges, pinched between his thumb and index.

"Here."

He sticks the book between his free fingers to freely lift your chin with his hand, firmly setting a yellow smiley face sticker on your visor. He smooths it on with his thumb, still holding you steady.

You send him a green wink. He swipes two fingers across his faceplate.
