Summary
After Buck is kidnapped by a man who blames him for an old loss, he makes it out alive, but not unchanged. Recovery comes in fragments: sleepless nights, trembling hands, grief that never quite learned how to leave, and the unbearable humiliation of needing to be held together by someone else.
So he goes where he can still breathe. He goes to Eddie.
Under Eddie’s roof, in the quiet shape of domesticity and the shadow of everything they have already lost, Buck begins to understand that survival is only the first half of the story. The second half is softer, but more frightening. And maybe, at last, a kind of coming home.
