Dark(ish?) themes
Basic summary of Gachiakuta for anyone who hasn't watched the anime or read the manga- In a dystopian world, the wealthy and the poor are separated by a wall, the wealthy having everything they need and more easily discarding anything they find insignificant, while the poor fight for scraps. Over on the poor side, there is a seemingly bottomless pit where the rich come over once a month to discard their scraps, be that trash or people. Rudo is the main character who lives on the poor side of the wall and is bullied and mocked by others because his biological dad is a murderer. The only 2 people who accepted him were his childhood friend Chiwa and the man who stepped up as his father figure and gifted him a pair of gloves, whose name is Regto. Rudo has a belief that nothing is truly garbage, which made him go through the richest trash on multiple occasions, getting him lectured by Regto about the dangers. One day, Rudo decides to give one of his favorite stuffed animals that he found in the trash and fixed up to Chiwa when he got home after he found Regto dead. Hovering over him was a man with a mask and a hood. This man quickly flees the crime scene, leaving Rudo in the room, hovering over Regto, when the authorities walk in. Rudo is framed for the crime despite his protests that he's innocent, the authorities condemn him, and even Chiwa turns away from him. Rudo is thrown inside the pit, and as he falls, he vows his revenge. When he lands, he realizes that the pit didn't kill him; instead, it brought him to a whole new wasteland filled with debris and trash. Inside the pit, there are things called trash beasts, which can only be defeated by using vital instruments. (Vital instruments are explained in the power system paragraph. Rudo's Vital instrument is his gloves, which were gifted to him by Regto. In the actual anime, Rudo is found by Engin, a “Cleaner,” after he falls, and this makes Rudo join the cleaners. The 2 main groups in this story are the cleaners and the raiders. The cleaners are the ones who help out the citizens, while the raiders are the ones who want to get revenge on the sphere.
Power system- In the world of Gachiakuta, power is from the will an individual pours into an object, turning a simple item into a Vital Instrument or Jinki. These people are called Givers, individuals capable of manifesting this power who draw out the latent soul of an object they deeply cherish, transforming it into a tool or weapon. Usually, people who care more for their object are stronger, and those people who want their vital instrument to be in perfect condition are usually supported. This power is essential for survival in the Abyss, as it is the only way to defeat Trash Beasts, massive and mindless monsters born from the collective neglect of discarded waste. While the Spherides discard anything they deem useless, the Givers prove that nothing is truly garbage. They protect the non-givers against the trash beasts, and some non-givers are a part of the support team, so they can't kill a trash beast, but they can help out the givers.
Characters- (IM SORRY THIS IS THE LAST BACKGROUND PARAGRAPH I SWEAR)
Rudo: The main character, who uses his gloves as his vital instrument, is incredibly vengeful. His vital instruments are his gloves, and he named them 3R. (stands for Reduce, Reuse, Recycle XD) Any trash he touches turns into a vital instrument he can use until it "fulfils its final purpose.”
Enjin: The 28-year-old leader of Team Akuta. He is a relaxed and empathetic mentor whose name means "the one who connects." His Vital Instrument is “Umbreaker”, a versatile umbrella he uses to glide, shield himself, or spin into a devastating drill.
Zanka Nijiku: A disciplined warrior from a prestigious family who considers himself to be an average person compared to natural talents. His Vital Instrument is a staff named Lovely Assistaff, which he uses for precision cutting, stabbing, and sensing vibrations through the ground.
Riyo Reaper: A 16-year-old former hitman with a playful but ruthless personality. Her Vital Instrument is The Ripper, a pair of silver scissors that grow to the size of her legs. She fights with acrobatic kicks, using her feet to operate the blades.
Zodyl Typhon: The ominous and visionary leader of the Raiders. His vital instrument is his cape, which is a part of the watchman series, just like Rudo's gloves.
Jabber Wonger: A psychotic, battle-hungry person who finds pleasure in pain. He ignores the weak and lives only for the thrill of a brutal fight. His Vital Instrument is Mankira, ten silver rings that manifest as razor-sharp claws on his fingertips.
Cthoni Andor: An emotionless woman who acts as the group’s tactical realist. She is stealthy and doesn't fight much. Her Vital Instrument is stored in a circular bag, which allows her and her teammates to disappear into a void she creates.
Bundus Begalkeit: An extremely tall, elderly-looking man who remains polite and friendly even to his enemies. He lacks any personal hostility and only fights when commanded by Zodyl. His Vital Instrument has prosthetic arms that change throughout different stages of his life.
