Lando opened his eyes and let out a sigh. A bright ray of light fell across the room from behind the curtain. Lando turned around and noticed the bed beside him was empty; he was not there. He blinked his eyes a few times, trying to get used to the light. He looked at his watch, it was 10 am. How could he have slept till 10 am without even waking up once? He came to a sitting position, swinging the duvet off his body and sweeping his legs over the edge of the bed. He stretched his arms above his head and let out a jawn.
In his bathrobe and slippers, he stepped outside of the bedroom, entering the hall. He heard voices coming from the living room. Giggles and laughs. Lando pushed against the door that was left open on a small crack, leading inside.
It was bright in the living room, the day had already fully started. And there they were, in the corner, next to the window. Lando tried to sneak in, without them noticing, making his way to the kitchen first.
Lando pressed the on-button on the coffee machine for it to heat up. Lando did not drink coffee, he did not like the taste of it. But he knows how to make coffee, good coffee. He became quite good at it over the years. He grabbed the portafilter, filling it with freshly grinded coffee powder and steered it around with the WDT-tool. Lando never really knew what that tool was doing, but it was fun to do and made him feel like a real barista. Then he pressed the coffee down and clicked the portafilter into the machine, pressing the button to extract a cup of espresso out of it. Next, he filled the milk pitcher halfway with milk and turned on the steam wand, heating up the milk, making it foamy. He poured the milk over the espresso, trying to make a latte art heart inside of the cup. Even though Lando has been making cappuccinos for years now, the latte art was still a bit difficult. It kinda looked like a heart though. Good enough. Way better than when he first started to make his morning coffee.
At the beginning of their relationship, Lando did not even own a coffee machine. The first time he stayed the night at Lando's place, he had to give him instant coffee he had bought a while ago. That same day, right after he had left, Lando went to the store to buy a coffee machine. Luckly the instant coffee had not scared him away, so Lando was able to provide way more and way better morning coffees for him.
With the coffee in his hand, he returned to the living room just around the corner. The sunlight came through the window, falling exactly in the corner where they were sitting.
Lando looked at it from a distance, he had never seen something so beautiful. In the sunlight, his husband was lying down on the rug. He was on his side, elbow pressed in-between the fibers of the rug, head resting on his hand. His white T-shirt hugged his upper body perfectly, cropped up just a little, showing a bit of skin from his stomach above the elastic band from the grey sweatpants he was wearing. His feet bare, toes curled up, rubbing his feet together slightly. His hair was messy, locks going everywhere, fingers from the hand he was resting his head on strangled in-between the strands. With his free hands he was stacking bright colored building blocks on one and the other. And across from him, she was. She sat straight up, with her legs stretched infront of her. She wore a pair of leggings with flowers on it, combined with a shirt with stripes. Totally different colors, no match at all. It looked cute anyway. She looked cute, as always. The little curls on the back of her head fell into her neck. It had started to curl since a few weeks, where the hair on top of her head was still mostly straight. It was light blond, almost white, especially in the sunlight. She was giggling and speaking words that where not really words yet, more sounds.
They looked perfect together. His husband and his child. His husband always looked good, but he looks on his best when he is with his daughter. He was such a good and loving dad. Lando never knew he could love his husband more than he already did, till the day they took their daughter in their arms for the first time. From that point on, Lando started to love his husband not just as his husband, but as the father of his child. And he also taught he could never love anybody else as much as he had loved his husband, untill she came into their live and she became Lando's whole world.
“Good morning, babe” He heared his husband speek from the corner of the living room, as Lando was just watching them in aw.
Lando smiled and stepped forward, walking to the corner of the room. “Good morning, Oscar” Lando spoke, cup of coffee still in both his hands.
He kneeled down when he arrived at the rug and sat down, crossed legged. Oscar came up from his arm and came to a sitting position as well. He leaned forward and pressed his lips on Lando's. They were soft and warm. He smelled like Oscar, his Oscar, his favorite scent in the whole world. On his side Lando felt his daughter trying to crawl into his lap. “Good morning, sweety. Did you have a nice morning together with dad?” Lando asked to his daughter, brushing her cheek with his thumb while she looked up with a wide smile on her face.
Lando handed the cappuccino over to Oscar “I made you a coffee, sorry it is so late”. Since their daughter was in their life, days started at 6am, on a good day maybe 7. So 10 am was actually very late for them.
“No sorry, thank you” Oscars words were soft and soothing as he took the coffee and took a sip. “I hope you had a good sleep; you deserve a little rest”. With one hand he reached Lando's way, stroking through his curls. Another kiss followed, still smelling like Oscar, but also like coffee.
Lando let out a sigh of satisfaction. He couldn't be happier than he was in this exact moment. Everything was okay, and it was just him and the two people he loved most in the whole world.
