Summary
Robert’s Rebellion failed, and the Targaryens kept the throne.
In the years since, King Aerys has remade victory into ritual called the Trials of Fealty, a glittering court pageant where the children of defeated houses are offered up as pledges, polished for display, and taught exactly what loyalty costs.
Jon arrives in King’s Landing as the North’s answer — Lord Starks bastard, expendable enough to send and dangerous enough to matter. Princess Daenerys is ordered to be his royal patron; to guide him, shape him, and keep him useful to the crown.
But the closer they are forced together, the harder Jon is to turn into a symbol — and the harder it becomes for Daenerys to remain the gracious face of a system built to break him.
