Work Text:

Seo-yun knew her life would change the moment she met Kim Taehyung.
Having only dated losers up until now, Taehyung was an immediate, no-brainer of an update. And even if they never worked out, she knew she couldn't be the one to say no.
They'd weren't really in the same circles, yes, so she didn't really know Kim Taehyung. But there's people she knows who knew of him. Some had even worked with him.
So when the alpha was alone at the bar during an event they'd both been invited to, Seo-yun couldn't resist but hit him up. Some would argue and reprimand her for gunning for the rich, handsome alpha, but the omega couldn't have cared less.
Contrary to how things had been, Seo-yun actually wanted this thing — whatever it was — to work out.
Maybe Kim Taehyung could be the one. Maybe he would be the alpha to finally sweep her off her feet.
Right off the bat, Seo-yun thinks it's going better than expected.
Kim Taehyung smiles at her when she approaches, politely offering her a seat as he leans and away with a smile. Too handsome up close, Seo-yun can't help but blush as he eventually offers her a drink.
"So, are you-are you enjoying the event?" she asks, cringing the moment the cringe-worthy line slips past her lips. It must show on her face, because Taehyung laughs loud enough for the people around them to look over.
It should have been awkward, but somehow, the ice melts.
Taehyung has a cocky grin on his face the whole time, well aware of the situation around him. People around them are craning their neck for a single look, the whole room buzzing around the alpha. This isn't his event, but it feels like one anyway.
It's a book launch — a nice memoir published by Choi Wooshik.
Probably well beneath Kim Taehyung's paycheck, if Seo-yun was asked. But she knows Taehyung and Wooshik have been friends for over a decade, and his presence at the launch was expected.
If everyone at the party was honest, many would confirm that they were here for a glimpse.
"Well, it's a nice party," Taehyung says, eyes crinkling in an honest, warm way Seo-yun wasn't expecting them to. "Better, now that I have company."
Wow. Okay.
Seo-yun can't help but flush again, pretending to focus on her drink as she thinks of a sweet comeback.
But turns out Taehyung is more charismatic than the rumors which surround him, and doesn't need a smart comeback from Seo-yun to keep the conversation going.
They talk about the event, Taehyung complimenting his friend and his talent.
Seo-yun's a bit nervous about talking to the older alpha, but she holds her ground. There's little butterflies she feels despite herself, unable to keep the optimistic part of herself at bay.
Taehyung ends up ordering a them more drinks, leaving Seo-yun wondering if she can tell him to stop because she doesn't want to go home drunk and wasted before her shift tomorrow.
The CEO will go back to his company tomorrow, probably can take some time off and relax if he needs to. Extremely rich people must have a different schedule, right?
But Seo-yun has to wake up and write a report and pitch angles for Wooshik's book release, so she doubts she'll have the time to relax. People ideally wouldn't care, but Wooshik's success as an actor and his affinity to people like Taehyung make him a hot entity to write about.
"Are you here for work?" Taehyung inquires, looking equal amounts interested and casual.
Seo-yun's smiles at the alpha, hoping that 'journalist who might one day lose her job to AI' is good enough. "I am. I was invited to write a press release. Maybe score an interview if I can."
Taehyung hums, considering for a bit before he offers to connect her with Wooshik. "I could let him know if you want. He's a good friend."
I know, Seo-yun wants to say.
"Really? That'll be great, Taehyung-ssi," she says instead.
She wants to date this man, sure. But she's not going to pass up an opportunity to get an exclusive interview with South Korea's hottest actor-turned-author.
Taehyung has the audacity to wink at her, but even that comes off as charming.
Just for that, she decides she hates him a little bit.
Without wasting any time, Taehyung has his phone in his hand, opening up the keypad as he slides it to her. "Well, perfect opportunity for us to exchange contacts, then."
Seo-yun does her absolute best to reign in her excitement. Taehyung has to know she's excited, but she doesn't want him to see exactly how much.
Looking back, Seo-yun knows this is the first time she felt it.
But it was too subtle to notice then. Something too cavalier at the moment.
Before Seo-yun can grab Taehyung's phone, the screen morphs into an incoming call window. The phone is snatched back before the omega can even blink, getting zero chance to get a look at the caller.
Smile off his face, Taehyung speaks in an hushed tone with his head turned away. She doesn't actively eavesdrop, but Seo-yun can pick up a few words anyway.
"What?-" — some mumbled sounds — "alright, okay." — some words she can't really make out. "Fuck. Okay. I'll be there."
Taehyung isn't frowning when he turns to her, but he isn't smiling either. There's a soft exhaustion on his face, something completely unrelated to their meeting.
Enough to let her know he's leaving before he tells her.
At least it's not a fake emergency.
"I'm sorry, Seo-yun-ssi," he admits, sincere enough in his attempt. "I need to get home."
The omega pushes down any adversity she feels, reminding herself that they'd just been talking. It was just the first step.
"It's alright, Taehyung-ssi," Seo-yun says, offering a small smile. She doesn't want to overstep, but she does want to show that she cares. "I hope everything's okay?"
Taehyung smiles, polite and distant — no longer his initial charming self. If he hadn't been conversing with her, Seo-yun assumes he'd have been out of the venue while talking on the phone.
"Everything's alright," he informs. "Just a small emergency with my kid. He's fine, now, though."
Oh.
Oh.
Kim Taehyung had a kid no one knew about?
She hasn't researched the man extensively, but she doesn't remember a child being in the news. Maybe he truly does keep his personal life private.
There's also a small, barely noticeable warning in Taehyung's tone. Something tells her that if she has a problem with this kid, she won't be getting a call back.
Her response could be make it or break it for her right now.
It's fine, Seo-yun thinks, she loves children. And she'll make sure to love this one.
"I, uhm-" Seo-yun attempts to say. "I'm glad he's fine."
Taehyung nods once, quickly reaching into his suit jacket pocket to retrieve a card. "Call me?" he says, and Seo-yun can finally see the remenents of the carefree businessman that spoke to her earlier.
The omega nods as she accepts his contact, smiling as she orders herself a gin and tonic.
So the evening didn't exactly go her way.
At least she had something to look forward to now.

Their second date, followed by a sweet, low-effort early dinner, goes spectacularly well.
Taehyung asks her out to a classy yet not-to-fancy French restaurant this time. And since she'd probably never go to one by herself, Seo-yun decides to make the most of it.
For a man of his stature and wealth, Seo-yun is relatively surprised about the way Taehyung speaks. It could be because he has a kid, but Seo-yun doesn't ask about that just yet.
The alpha seems up to date with everything from movies to books, leaving Seo-yun in awe of his pop-culture trivia. Because seriously, how does one find the time?
One can say she's easily impressed, and Kim Taehyung is all about a good perfect impression.
And alright, okay, Seo-yun isn't proud of herself, but she can't find it in herself to say no when Taehyung invites her over to his apartment. She hasn't had sex in a year and she's curious. Sue her.
It's a beautiful penthouse, glass windows stopping her in awe the moment she enters.
"Wow," the omega says as much, glancing at the night sky in front of them. "This is beautiful."
Taehyung smiles, "Thank you. The view never gets old, I suppose."
Seo-yun smiles back, wondering if there's a reason the alpha doesn't live in his family estate. They've all seen spruced up pieces about the Kim Family estate, spanning for acres and complete with a formidable house that would put everything else to shame.
She's not sure it's exactly first date material.
But because she's well aware of the lack of her poker face, Taehyung beats her to it, speaking softly as he hands her a glass of wine he's poured. "You can say it, whatever it is. I can tell you're curious."
He shifts closer to her, and Seo-yun can't help but lean in. They don't need to have sex right away, no. But she would love to kiss him.
"I mean, I was just wondering."
The alpha's smile widens. "About?"
"The, uhm. The Kim Estate?"
It was absolutely the wrong thing to say, because Taehyung blinks, backing away slightly in surprise. "The Kim Estate?"
Blushing, Seo-yun pulls away as she walks around the house, embarrassed now.
"Well, can't blame me for being a little curious."
Taehyung shrugs, but it's not unkind. He follows Seo-yun as she walks into the kitchen, the pair stopping in front of a refrigerator decorated with ample magnets and photos.
"I guess I just needed my space," Taehyung answers, but even Seo-yun — who doesn't know him that well — can tell it's non-committal.
"I get that, families can get overbearing, too" the omega says, but she's no longer focused on the matter. Her eyes land on the photos peppered on the fridge door, immediately gravitating towards a kid — probably about 10 — definitely taking up most space.
A kid (probably Taehyung's), and another 20-something-year-old man that's in most photos, if not all.
Maybe a friend? Or maybe a cousin? The Kim's were a big family.
It was hilarious, really, because she would remember the moment for months to come.
It's the first time she sees Jeon Jungkook, after all.
If only she'd known what she was looking for.
"They certainly do," Taehyung carries on, oblivious to her turmoil. "In fact-"
Momentarily, Seo-yun's focus pivots to a different photo — this one with Taehyung, the mystery man and what seems to be his kid.
Holy shit. Is that-
"—Is that Agust D?!" Seo-yun shamelessly interrupts. "You're friends with the Agust D?!"
Okay, look. Seo-yun knows she's been a bit presumptive, but Kim Taehyung is big enough to befriend global stars, right?
Maybe they just met at an event?
Taehyung's eyes flits between the photo and Seo-yun, slightly confused by the outburst before they settle into a knowing, unimpressed demeanor.
The alpha crosses his arms, and Seo-yun can't help but narrow in on his arms. She's distracted by Agust D, but she's not blind.
"You're a fan, huh?"
Seo-yun raises her eyebrows in disbelief. "You aren't?"
Unwarranted, Taehyung laughs, head thrown back and all that jazz. If not for the sheer surprise of it, Seo-yun would have been at least a little bit offended.
But Taehyung simply smiles at her, moving closer to look at the picture himself. "He's uhm, he's my brother."
Forgoing any tact she has left, Seo-yun's jaw drops in shock. "Your…your what?"
Taehyung nods, still laughing as he taps on the photo with emphasis. "This was from his birthday last year. We try to meet as often as we can, really, with the schedules and all of that."
"I-I uhm," Seo-yun buffers, still unsure as to where this conversation is going.
Is it common knowledge that Agust D and Kim Taehyung are brothers?
Is she the dumb one?
Or is this like a super secret thing she's going to have to sign an NDA about?
Does this mean she can meet the rapper one day?
Is this-
The businessman ultimately takes mercy on her, probably able to read her addled mind like an open up.
"It's not a secret," Taehyung provides, gesturing towards her empty glass and wordlessly asking for a refill. Seo-yun nods as she hands her glass over.
"I don't think I've read about Agust D having a brother."
The alpha shrugs. "I think the more obsessive fans know. We're not exactly hiding it, you know?"
"Wow," Seo-yun whispers. "So does this mean-"
— you get early access to some of his tracks?
But Seo-yun never gets to ask her question.
A loud click and beep interrupt the new couple, the main hallway — lined with motion censors — lighting up as the new entrants slowly come into view.
It's the first time Seo-yun meets Jeon Jungkook.
Somehow standing up straighter, as if he's caught red-handed off-guard, Taehyung jumps away and far from Seo-Yun.
Wide-eyed, two figures come into view as they step into the living room — which all but connected to Taehyung's open kitchen plan.
The man — an omega, she can now tell — and the kid from the refrigerator.
Seo-yun doesn't know what she's walked into, but she really doesn't want to assume, so she chooses to hang back.
By the looks of it, this omega was probably just babysitting Taehyung's kid.
In the blink of an eye, the penthouse is no longer the quiet, sleek place it had been.
"Taetae!" the kid exclaims, paddling towards Taehyung with a huge smile as he collides into him.
Taetae? Why is Taehyung's kid calling him Taetae?
The alpha holds the kid gently, a hand steadily on his back as he stares at the other omega and the child alternatively.
The child pulls back after a while, eyes smiling ever more so as he cranes his neck to peer at Taehyung. "Taetae, appa said you won't be home!" The child speaks in pout, seemingly upset at his Taetae for lying.
"Oh, is that so?" the man answers, albeit a little childish as he plays along. "I'm sorry, Hannie. I forgot to inform your papa I'll be home. Why don't you go freshen up, hm?"
It's a clear dismissal so the adults can talk, but Seo-yun can understand.
There's a few other things she can't, though.
The kids simply nods and runs along, disappearing down the hall and into a corridor. He runs a bit, but Taehyung's sharp 'be careful, buddy. No running!' has him slowing down almost immediately.
Which leaves Seo-yun alone in the room with Taehyung and the new mystery omega.
Visibly awkward and guilt-struck, the omega approaches the duo with caution. He does look at Seo-yun, but it's barely a moment before he's flushing and looking away.
"I-I'm so sorry, hyung," the omega begins, apology tumbling out rushed and urgent. "I really didn't know you'd be here. I-I thought you were out for dinner-and Hanbin wanted to come home sooner-"
Maybe, Seo-yun let's herself think, this is Taehyung's ex and the child — Hanbin's — other parent. They do look alike.
Taehyung waves him off. "No, it's-it's alright, I just wanted to show Seo-yun the apartment."
Okay. That's good.
The omega knows about her.
Promptly so, Taehyung turns towards Seo-yun, reaching out to hold her hand so he can steer her close. How is one not supposed to blush at that?
"Seo-yun, this is Jungkook," Taehyung grins as he introduces them, "my best friend. He and Hanbin…they're staying with me for a while."
Nodding along, Seo-yun gives Jungkook a slight smile and bow. The other omega simply apologizes again, cheek dusted with light pink in embarrassment. He's so adorable, there's no question that his sentiment is genuine.
He's sweet, Seo-yun can tell. But it only raises more questions than than answers.
Is this Taehyung's ex he's clearly super friendly with?
Is this Taehyung's kid?
Is it not?
"Hello," Jungkook says once the introductions are done.
And while Seo-yun would have loved to stay and enjoy her time with Taehyung, she knows their date has officially come to an end.
"I'll uh-I'll leave now, Taehyung-ssi, if that's alright." She doesn't know why she's being so formal, but it slips out anyway.
Somewhat panicked, it's Jungkook who steps closer to her. "No, uh, Seo-yun-ssi, please. You should stay for hot chocolate! I was-I was going to make some for Hannie."
Again, it's a sweet suggestion, but Seo-yun doesn't really know how to tell her date and his friend (?) that anything after some wine will only upset her stomach.
Still, she musters up her kindest smile for Jungkook. "It's really sweet of you to offer, Jungkook-ssi, but I really must get going. Plus, my roommate will start worrying, too."
Jungkook blinks at that, as if just now realizing the time (almost 9:00PM).
"Oh," he says for the lack of anything else. "You'll-you'll drive back alone?"
Seo-yun shakes her head, unable to help the chuckle that escapes at the other omega's immediate concern. "No, no. I'll just call a cab quickly, shouldn't be any trouble!"
Taehyung looks like he's about to protest, but Jungkook beats him to it again.
"No!" he blurts out, a little louder than he himself expected. "Taehyung hyung will drop you."
It's Seo-yun's turn to blink owlishly at that, because…okay. She doesn't really know what to make of that. She can tell though, that the suggestion also comes from Jungkook's guilt of having interrupted their date night.
Beside her, said date sighs, running a hand to his hair as it finally comes undone after hours of heat and sweat.
"I've been drinking too, Gguk," he says.
Jungkook doesn't back off in the slightest. "So? Call the on-call chauffer, then, hyung," the omega suggests as if it's the only obvious thing to do.
On-call chauffer.
Wow.
Just how rich are these people?
And while Seo-yun wants to tell Taehyung it really is fine, she doesn't want her date to end just yet. Especially since she was promised at least a kiss.
For a moment, Taehyung seems like he's going to resist.
But the alpha gives in pretty easily, fondly rolling his eyes as he picks up his phone to text away whoever he needs to text.
Probably not the night Seo-yun wanted, but truly — if she gets to go home after spending some more time with Taehyung — she doesn't think she cares.

Seo-yun reaches home a little over an hour after Jungkook had arrived.
The chauffer takes 10 minutes to ready the car and arrive, giving Taehyung ample time to say goodbye to Hanbin — which takes around five more minutes — and for Seo-yun to thank Jungkook for his hospitality and kind greeting.
They talk in the car and even after they reach their destination, giving Taehyung the time to fill her in with his current living situation and Hanbin (and Jungkook).
It was, to put it mildly, not what she was expecting.
When she enters her flat, now feeling completely underwhelming yet still somehow homely, Seo-yun all but collapses on her couch.
It's how she ends up eating ice cream at 1:00 AM as a drama plays in the background with her roommate yapping away at her side.
"Wait, so, let me get this straight. Hanbin is not Kim Taehyung's kid?" Sara asks her, the beta's American-Korean accent slurred and inconsistent.
Seo-yun shakes her head. "Nope. He's his best friend's kid. They're just staying with him for the time being, I guess."
"You guess? He didn't tell you everything?"
The omega rolls her eyes in irritation. "Not really. Just that it was a complicated family situation."
Sara seems to mirror her confusion, because seriously, what the fuck?
"Do you think they're…you know?"
"They're what?"
Sara shrugs. "Exes or something."
"I did think that, but…Taehyung didn't really mention anything. I don't think they dated at all."
Sara's mouth turns into a surprised 'oh', assessing the situation with a neutral lens. Her friend might be enamored with Taehyung already, but she didn't need to give them the benefit of the doubt.
"And the omega?"
Seo-yun's eyebrows furrow in question. "What about him?"
Impatient, Sara rolls her eyes again. "How was he? Was he awkward? You know how some people get."
The omega tilts her head. Maybe some people might come off as territorial, but Jungkook had been nothing but sweet. "He was sweet," she admits. "Very pretty, too. I had to take a moment I think."
Sara raises a brow. "That pretty?"
"I thought so. But he was just really sweet…I couldn't be bitter about it."
Ideally, there should be no insecurity brewing in her. And there isn't. Not really.
But-
"What is it?" Sara prods, concerned at her friend's expression.
I don't want to say — Seo-yun thinks.
But Sara can be stubborn, and Seo-yun is incredibly tired. "It's nothing from Jungkook, honestly, I don't know. But I think Taehyung referring to the kid as his still has me thrown. Maybe…maybe I'm overthinking?"
Sara looks like she has something to say, but bites her words.
"Maybe," the beta supplies. "You haven't said anything that indicates a red flag. Just that they are too close. Nothing of immediate concern, at least."
Yeah.
Of course.
Of course Sara was right.
Taking a deep breath, Seo-yun stabilizes her thoughts. Taehyung has been nothing but sweet to her, and she really doesn't want to think about problems that don't exist.
And even if he did think of Hanbin as his kid, Seo-yun would be more than happy to accommodate that.
Finding a pit to throw her concerned feelings into, the omega fishes for the topic that'll distract her friend.
"Forget that!" Seo-yun exclaims. "Did you know that Kim Taehyung is Agust D's brother?"
Sara buffers for a moment, and then, as predicted, it's all they can talk about.
Sleep comes easily to her, then.
It's momentary peace.
Today was the first time she heard about — and met — Jeon Jungkook. And somehow, after that, it never stops again.

Surprisingly or unsurprisingly, dating Taehyung becomes an easy, enjoyable affair.
Seo-yun loves that he's super easy to talk to.
It's difficult with someone like Taehyung, but she sometimes even forgets their glaring socio-economic gap. It's also an abundant relief that Taehyung doesn't shower her with unnecessary gifts she could never afford herself. He's gotten her everything from coffee to flowers, but those she appreciates.
She also finds out Taehyung, though relatively self-sufficient, is a bit spoiled.
It's not a bad thing, per say, but a grown man should at least know the basics.
She soon learns, also through Jungkook, that Taehyung's lack of skills isn't due to lack of trying.
So when Taehyung suggests a date at home where he cooks, Seo-yun can't help but wonder how it's going to go.
How she finds herself shopping for groceries with the alpha, she doesn't know.
"Why-why are we doing this again?" Seo-yun asks.
The both of them can't cook. The both of them don't want to cook. What are they even here for?
Taehyung shrugs, as if he doesn't really have a reason. "Jungkook suggested it'll be fun. Cooking something together."
"Jungkook suggested it?"
Taehyung smiles. "Yeah. He pointed out we've only been spending time outside, so…he was also the one who suggested we get groceries together. Otherwise, you know me."
She does, a little bit. Taehyung would rather just get someone to do that for him.
Alright. That makes sense.
It's only when they get home, that she takes a closer look at the other additional things Taehyung has picked up.
There's a lot more chips and snacks than she'd expected. Seo-yun picks up a Kancho box. "I didn't know you liked all this."
Taehyung chuckles at that. "I don't, not really. Jungkook just needs too many snacks. I wanted to stock his favorites while I can. He's running low, I think."
Okay.
That's…sweet.
She doesn't really respond to Taehyung's admission, looking to pick up the rest of their haul and keep it away. They're making lasagna and a sort of curry stew, and she doesn't know why they need unsweetened cocoa for the same.
But Taehyung said it's Jungkook's recipe, and there seemed to have been no room for questions or suggestions.
"Where do I put this away?" she asks, picking up two bottles of different kinds of oils they won't be using for the recipes.
She expects a prompt answer, but instead, Taehyung stares at Seo-yun as if she's asked him the most outrageous thing.
"I uh. I'm not sure?" the alpha says, hesitant.
Okay. That's-
"You don't know?" she counters in a way that means 'this is your kitchen, isn't it?'
"I don't, I guess," Taehyung admits. "Jungkook set it up when we moved in."
Seo-yun can't help but recoil in confusion.
"What do you mean? You didn't have the penthouse before Jungkook and Hanbin moved in?"
Taehyung's expression is answer enough.
This wasn't something he wanted to tell her.
But Seo-yun remains unmoving, staring the alpha down as he fumbles in his own kitchen. Which, in hindsight, was more Jungkook's kitchen than his own.
Or more accurately: Jungkook and their imo that cooks for them every day.
"Not really," Taehyung answers, and it feels like a cop out. "I was already planning to move out…and Jungkook just needed a new place around the same time."
A lie, and Seo-yun doesn't need a detector to detect that.
Maybe, she supposes, it's embarrassing for the alpha.
It's fine, Seo-yun tells herself.
"Should I re-arrange a few things?" the omega suggests. She doesn't wait for Taehyung to really respond, turning towards a shelf to open and check.
There's a hand on her wrist before she can even attempt to open it.
Taehyung's grip is as gentle as it can get, but the message remains clear as day. She's about to cross a line she isn't allowed to.
"It's fine, Seo-yun" Taehyung says. "You don't have to do that."
"Are you sure?" the journalist tries again. "It's just a few items-"
It's a head shake this time, still gentle and dismissive. "It's alright," he adds. "Jungkook's a bit particular about how he places things. I'd rather not mess that up."
Despite the instant rejection, Seo-yun wills herself to understand Jungkook's position here. She doesn't know the other omega enough, but basis on what Taehyung has told her, he is significantly particular about his items and his space.
Her mind tracks back to one of her more recent dates with Taehyung, when Jungkook had called the alpha in panic because he'd misplaced his favorite lip balm. The older man hadn't even flinched, and had simply dialed one of his assistants to go deliver Jungkook another one.
Seo-yun doesn't know how that one had ended, but she assumed Jungkook would have been happy.
So, yes. Seo-yun can understand.
Or so she tells herself.
But she doesn't want to focus on the ugly, insecure feeling growing around her. She doesn't care. She's here to enjoy time with her boyfriend (?), so it's okay…right?
"Okay," Seo-yun concedes, reaching for the iPad near her to check the lasagna recipe. "Let's just start cooking, then? Do you want to get started on the pasta?"
Somehow, even that's too much to ask for.
Taehyung's cell phone goes off right before he can even pick up an ingredient.
It's Jungkook.
Of course it is.
It's an interruption for Seo-yun, but Taehyung doesn't confirm to the same views.
"Hey," Taehyung prompts, expression turning sour as he turns away. Again, Seo-yun's only able to catch a broken string of words.
"What do you-" a pause. "No. No that's not important right now, Jungkook-" what wasn't? this date? — "will you at least listen to me-" some more silence. "No. Not at Yoongi hyung's." — Agust D?! — "No-" — this one a bit firmer, angrier. "I don't care, Jungkook, just," — it takes a while for Taehyung to speak again. — "No. I'm taking him. I'll be there in 15, okay?"
Seo-yun turns away in panic the moment Taehyung disconnects the call.
The alpha takes a moment to calm down, leaving Seo-yun to wonder if his scent has soured under all the pheromone blockers. She's yet to meet him without blockers on.
Seo-yun's gotten a hint of it before, but it's only been faint notes of orange and cherry.
"Hey, Seo-yun-"
"What's wrong?" the omega asks. She is genuinely concerned, especially if Jungkook's in trouble. "That-that sounded bad."
Sighing, Taehyung runs an impatient hand through his head. He looks older than he is.
"I'm sorry, Seo-yun," the alpha says, rattled and distracted. At least he sounds like he means it. "I need to go pick Hanbin and Jungkook up. Hanbin's sick."
"Oh," Seo-yun says, at a loss of words or a reaction. "Does he-does he need to go to the hospital?"
Something flashes in Taehyung's eyes, but it's gone before Seo-yun can assess it.
"I'll be taking him later" Taehyung answers. "I just need to get them home first."
Okay then.
"Okay, then," she says as much, glancing around the mess that is Taehyung's kitchen. She could help around and wait while Taehyung picks them up. "I'll just-"
"No, it's okay." Taehyung cuts her suggestion off before she can even offer it. He wasn't even looking at her, really. "You can-I'll call the driver for you. Someone will get in touch."
Seo-yun can only do so much to avoid the crack that forms in her heart.
Taehyung is gone in a minute, and Seo-yun leaves once the car arrives — the ingredients for their lasagna lying on the kitchen island for the entire night.

Seo-yun, for all her valiant efforts, is simply unable to bond with Hanbin.
And considering he's all Taehyung focuses on — even more so than Jungkook, if that's possible — it's impossible to ignore the kid.
He's not a bad kid, not at all.
Hanbin is probably one of the most obedient and kind children she's ever met, really.
But no matter how much she tries, Seo-yun has made absolutely no headway with Hanbin.
Her latest try, a mistake in hindsight, was the most intense disaster.
With Taehyung and Jungkook away in Busan to complete some work — she's not sure what — Seo-yun had very generously offered to babysit.
She expected Jungkook to be hesitant. To tell Taehyung that maybe they can come up with a better solution.
But instead it's Taehyung who hesitates. "Are you sure?" he asks, an uncomfortable look on his face. "You don't have to trouble yourself, Seo-yun."
It's the way he phrases himself, guarded and turned away as a dozing Hanbin rests on his shoulder. Jungkook and Hanbin had returned from the park, and the latter had refused to let go of his Taetae once they were home.
He'd been mad, apparently, that Taehyung didn't accompany them.
"It's no trouble," Seo-yun assures as she reaches to squeeze Taehyung's arm. She turns to smile at the child in his arms, adding: "I need to get accustomed to the little one, too, don't I?"
This time, she doesn't miss the subtle, possessive spike in Taehyung's scent. Maybe he doesn't realize it, but Taehyung tightens his hold on Hanbin, who only shifts closer as he whines in discomfort.
Noticing his slip up, Taehyung schools himself within a few seconds.
Seo-yun's gut sinks, but Jungkook — sweet, considerate Jungkook — surprisingly has her back.
The other omega had sneaked a hand up Taehyung's bicep, slowly coaxing Hanbin out of his arms. The baby whines, but doesn't resist his own father's cuddles. "It's really alright, hyung," Jungkook says, and it dangerously sounds like alpha. "I think it'll be good for him, too."
You're his father, Seo-yun wants to tell Jungkook. Why is he making calls about your son? Why are you co-parenting with your best friend?
And just like that, Taehyung agrees, albeit much dejected.
It starts out relatively well.
Hanbin is sweet, Seo-yun offering to play video games with him.
And according to the instructions (it feels like a whole document, really), all she needs to do is make sure Hanbin avoids peanut butter and get him to do some schoolwork if any. Naps are okay, Taehyung had said, and then highlighted more instructions for a nap.
If one looked at it, Seo-yun was feeling more like a babysitter and Taehyung's girlfriend (?).
To be fair, she wasn't feeling like his anything a week in.
And if that didn't seal the deal, your boyfriend sending you notes on how to take care of a child that isn't really his will certainly do it.
Seo-yun had felt like shit, and Jungkook had sent her a pitiful glance while telling Taehyung off with a pitiful 'she's got it, Taehyung hyung'.
But ten hours in and with minimal contact with Taehyung, Seo-yun genuinely didn't feel like she had it.
She was on call with Sara when Hanbin's stomach had started hurting.
"Wait, so, he hasn't checked in even once?"
Seo-yun shrugs as she responds, trying to keep the unease out of her voice. "No, he-he has."
There's a pause from Sara. They both know Seo-yun's lying.
"But?"
"But nothing, Sara."
The beta groans. "Come on, babe," she presses on. "Tell me."
Seo-yun sighs. "It's-he has checked in. But it's mainly been about Hanbin."
"Like what? Photos and stuff?"
"Yeah," the omega admits. "He's FaceTimed as well. But I don't know what to make of it. He did say he'd be busy."
"Hmm," Sara hums, equally stumped. "How's the kid?"
Seo-yun can only smile sadly. Because all in all, Hanbin is a great kid. He's just a tad bit shier.
"He's great, honestly," she admits. "I just don't think I'm bonding with him that well."
"That's understandable. You guys have been going out for like…how many days now?"
"Nearly three weeks, I think. It'll be a month soon."
"Does it feel like a month, though?"
There's an edge to Sara's voice Seo-yun can't make out.
"What does that even mean?" — she quips back, and it's meaner than she'd like.
"What? No, Seo-yun, I was just saying-"
But Seo-yun doesn't have enough time to really hear her friend's panicked response.
Hanbin, clutching a small tiger plushie, waddles to her while he yawns with tears in his eyes. "Seo-yun Imo," the kid says, and Seo-yun immediately knows something's wrong. "My -mach is hurting."
Well.
Fuck.
The omega hangs up promptly, softly cooing at Hanbin as she drags him to the couch with her. "Hanbinie," she says softly. "Could you tell me what's wrong, hm? Exactly what's paining?"
She says it nicely, of course she does.
But Hanbin looks at her like she's grown two heads, and promptly bursts into tears. "I wan' Taetae," Hanbin cries, words muffled out by sniffles and approaching snot.
Seo-yun knows she needs to jump into action. She has a list of emergency numbers given to her by Jungkook, different people to call during different kinds of emergencies. But she doesn't know how bad this is and has no physical way of staying calm.
She tries to get Hanbin to relax, failing miserably as Hanbin cries even louder.
Okay. Fuckfuckfuck.
She has zero experience with sick kids what is she supposed to do?
Panicking, Seo-yun shuffles through her contacts for Taehyung's number.
The calls rings twice, Taehyung picking up right away. "Hey, Seo-yun," the alpha greets, and she's annoyed at how soft he sounds. Annoyed because it's not going to last once she tells him why she called.
"Taehyung," the omega tries-
"Wait," said man cuts in, voice on edge. "Is-is Hanbin crying? What's wrong?"
"Yes. I-I think his stomach is hurting-"
"You think?"
Okay, Seo-yun can't deal with this.
Thankfully, that's the last she hears of him for now.
There's a small shuffle on the other end, the line going completely quiet before picking up again.
"Seo-yun-ssi, hi," Jungkook speaks now, much calmer and much nicer. "I'm sorry, hyung got a little tense."
Understatement, she thinks. But also a little understandable.
"No, it's alright," she says and means it. "I'm-I'm not sure what's hurting. I think it's his stomach but he's been asking for Taehyung and you ever since. I was going to call the numbers you gave me, of course, but-"
"No, Seo-yun-ssi, you did the right thing," Jungkook assures her. "Could you please FaceTime us? We'll talk to him."
Seo-yun switches to FT in record time, hanging around in the background while the other two calmed him down. She hears some of the conversation, but it feels too intimate to butt into for whatever reason.
It's Hanbin who calls her, telling her papa and Taetae want to talk to her now.
"Hey, Seo-yun-ssi," Jungkook says, and she can see Taehyung in the back, on his phone and refusing to look up. The other omega must notice her looking his way, because he says: "I'm really sorry. He's on timeout for now. I'll get him to apologize later."
Jungkook seems to be smiling, but Seo-yun can't find the concept of another omega talking so casually about her boyfriend the man she was seeing.
"It's alright," she says nevertheless.
Jungkook ends up confirming Hanbin's upset stomach, and once again — when Seo-yun suggests the hospital — she's met with a resounding no.
"Taehyung's already called our friends!" Jungkook informs. "One of them is a doctor, he'll-he'll check up on Hanbin. They'll be there soon!"
The 'you can leave once they're there' is clear enough.
She wants to argue, but some part of her has already given up.
How is she not supposed to when she feels like an outsider looking in on her own relationship?
At least, when Agust D shows up with his very tall and very dreamy doctor boyfriend, it makes it a tad bit better.

"I'm nervous," Seo-yun mentions, repeating herself for about the fifth time. "I don't know if it's the right-"
Taehyung, seated beside her, simply squeezes her hand. "It'll be fine, don't worry."
Seo-yun rolls her eyes, unconvinced. "You're just saying that."
The alpha laughs, and it's as pleasant as it can be. They're in the car on the way to Agust D's (!!!) party, and it's Seo-yun's first time meeting most of Taehyung's friends and family together.
Taehyung's been nonchalant about it, but Seo-yun feels she'll throw up on arrival.
Her boyfriend, surprisingly, has been extremely sweet about the process.
She doesn't think it's a coincidence.
Jungkook had meant it that Taehyung would apologize, the alpha apologizing the moment they were back in Seoul. Things have been…good, since then. The alpha had even shown up with flowers, making sure to make her feel involved.
It had done enough to soothe her worries, and then some.
But it still, despite the effort of it all, wasn't enough.
Something about Jungkook needing to tell Taehyung to apologize well was…exhausting. Seo-yun didn't get their dynamic. She tried, she really, really did. But what was a level beyond codependency?
What does it mean when you feel like you were constantly intruding with your boyfriend and his best friend?
What does it mean when your boyfriend is raising his best friend's kid?
What does it mean when your boyfriend most obviously already has an omega?
But she had insecurities of her own, and what if this was all just a big blunder in her head?
So she decides to suck it up for now.
They arrive at the Kim family estate fairly quickly, gates opening before their car even stops. It's a surreal experience, to be daunted by wealth when those around you aren't interested.
She'd also learned that Agust D was Taehyung's cousin. But since they were so close, no one truly cared. Taehyung had a real brother, but he lived in the US and flew in to visit them when he could.
It's crazier when they arrive.
There's not very many invitees, as Seo-yun was told, but just the vibe and buzz of it feels unmatched.
The only silver lining is that Taehyung's parents were in Australia for vacation, and she didn't have to face them just yet.
But as told to her by Jungkook, Taehyung's grandmother is the real one to impress.
Which is why, when they reach, she expects to be greeted by his halmoni or even Agust D, for that matter.
It isn't super formal, Taehyung had said, but I think there'll be 30 people? Halmoni likes to be particular about all this.
So obviously, it would be his halmoni greeting them, right?
Wrong.
The moment they enter the main entrance and the car drives away, Jungkook practically hops out of the room he was in, a big grin on his face.
"Hyung! Seo-yun-ssi!" the omega beams. "You both are a bit late, you know?"
Seo-yun would blush at that, especially since it implied she had stayed over at Taehyung's (and Jungkook's) penthouse before heading here together.
But she doesn't blush. Can't blush.
Because Jungkook sucks in all her focus with his arrival, clearly hosting a party for the Kims. As if this isn't Taehyung's home they're visiting, but his own.
"Yah," Taehyung responds, eyes flitting across the room to spot Hanbin before they land on Jungkook's entirely. "Stop teasing us. We're basically on time. I bet Yoongi hyung isn't even ready yet."
Jungkook deadpans, pinning Taehyung with a glare. "Of course he's ready," the omega claims, almost as if he's boasting. "I dragged him out of bed myself."
Taehyung shrugs, unaffected. "I'll believe it when I see it."
A little irked, Seo-yun pushes ahead to give Jungkook the flowers she'd purchased. "I uh, I got these for Agust D-ssi? Do I wait to give them or-"
Jungkook's eyes sparkle adorably at the flowers, thanking her softly while letting her know she didn't need to bring a gift. Behind them, a staff member materializes out of nowhere, accepting the flowers as they go to place them in a vase.
"When did you arrive, Jungkook-ssi?" Seo-yun can't help but ask, curiosity getting better of herself.
For a moment, Jungkook stumbles. His expression freezes at his previous smile, brows furrowing in confusion over the unexpected question. "I-" he glances at Taehyung, but the other has already moved in, loudly calling out for Hanbin who Seo-yun can hear from even out in the hallway. "I was already here, Seo-yun-ssi."
He looks embarrassed by it, and Seo-yun regrets asking.
Oh.
Yeah, no.
Of course.
She should have known.
The omega nods in absently, letting Jungkook lead him into the room. She's not sure what it's supposed to be, but it's like a mini gathering hall, complete with food and a cake with the Billboard logo on top.
Oh yes. Agust D had recently topped the charts, if she remembers.
Seo-yun tries to look for her boyfriend, unsurprised when she finds him in the corner with Hanbin, world zeroing in on the kid. They'd arrived together and separated even faster.
The only other person who's not really interacted that much is Agust D, who has since then asked her to call him 'Yoongi'. She tries, but she's sure there's a backdrop of 'omgomg' going around her.
And because the only three people she knows are preoccupied, Seo-yun finds herself stuck to the hors d'oeuvres.
"Seo-yun-ssi!" Jungkook approaches her a minute later. "I was looking for you."
Why? Seo-yun wants to ask. Why are you the one looking for me?
"I'm just enjoying the food," Seo-yun answers, and it's only half a lie.
Jungkook's face softens. "You should come meet Wooshik hyung. You didn't get to interact with him at the book launch, right?"
Caught between Jungkook's genuine concern and her insecurities, Seo-yun finds herself shaking her head slightly. "It's alright, Jungkook-ssi. I'm good here."
Jungkook frowns while he pouts, and Seo-yun suddenly understand why Taehyung's never able to say no to this man.
"Please?" the omega asks again, and Seo-yun find herself saying she'll be over in a few minutes.
Min Yoongi more or less ambushes her after that.
"You like him," the rapper says as he approaches, causing Seo-yun to flinch a little.
Was he here for shovel talk?
(She couldn’t wait to get home and tell Sara about this).
"I-what?" Seo-yun splutters, gaping like a fish. "Jungkook-ssi?"
Yoongi nods. "Yeah."
Pity talk, then.
Her first instinct is to pretend she doesn't know what the fellow omega is saying. They both turn their eyes towards Jungkook and Taehyung, who seem to have forgone their friends to talk to Hanbin.
"Why wouldn't I like him?" she asks, feeling a bit dumb the moment she says it.
Yoongi raises an eyebrow, hitting her with a silent 'really?'
Seo-yun only has the time to look mildly embarrassed. "He's really nice."
"He is," Yoongi agrees. "But I can't really blame people for feeling that way. Especially not when…" the artist trails off, eyes following Seo-yun's to land on Taehyung and Jungkook. As if looking at them is explanation enough.
Because of course, Min Yoongi makes sense.
Seo-yun can almost taste it. People being excited about going out with Taehyung, and being completely blindsided by Jungkook and Hanbin.
People realizing that there's no place for them in this relationship. That they're an unwelcome fourth in an already made family.
Because what can one do when you're boyfriend barely pays you any heed?
What can you do, when your boyfriend is very clearly in love with his best friend?
"He's been nothing but kind to me," Seo-yun admits. "I couldn't dislike him even if I tried to."
Jungkook and Taehyung look at her at that very second, Jungkook nudging Taehyung onward and towards, as if telling him to go fetch his own girlfriend.
Yoongi looks at her then, like he's looking right into her soul, and says: "Then I'd say you're kinder than most people I've met."
Seo-yun doesn't know much about being kind, but she does know that no matter how much she likes Kim Taehyung, she can't be a doormat in her own relationship.

Despite her resolve to confront Taehyung and break up, Seo-yun isn't able to do so for some time at least.
Part of it is because she's busy with deadline, and part of it is because Taehyung keeps scoring tables at restaurants she can never even think of.
And since she wasn't (thankfully) unfairly attached, it felt less guilty to say yes.
There was also something else — an underlying fear or tension that she'd continued to ignore.
It hadn't festered, but Seo-yun liked to think she was smart.
Clues were lingered throughout her interactions with Jungkook and Taehyung and Hanbin.
The alpha's over protectiveness towards Hanbin.
Jungkook’s overcompensating nature.
Hanbin's uncharacteristically shy nature and clear disdain for pain and hospitals.
Taehyung’s discomfort and anxiety the moment the both of them aren't in front of his eyes.
Hanbin's panic whenever Taehyung's comforting scent wasn't there for him.
But because it clearly didn't concern her, Seo-yun had never asked.
She had just hoped that whatever the problem was, it would resolve enough for Taehyung to relax.
The alpha was going to give himself an aneurysm before he hits 40 at this rate.
But considering her luck, she certainly couldn't stay away from it for long.
It was during one of their dates, Taehyung having booked them a booth at La Yoon, one of Seoul's newest fine dining places.
People apparently booked three months in advance.
But Taehyung was only a phone call away.
They were making plans to walk around at the Han River when they got the call.
The way Taehyung's partially blocked scent changed was indication enough for their date ending.
"Taehyung?" Seo-yun asked carefully. "What's wrong?"
It would have been useless to ask if everything was okay, because it clearly wasn't.
"There-there was some accident at Hanbin's school?" He says, practically shaking. "I think he got into a fight."
Oh god.
"Fuck. Is he hurt?"
Taehyung shakes his head. "I don't know. Jungkook’s on his way there, now," he answers, getting up to leave. "I-I need to get there-I'll-I'll call another car for you-"
Seo-yun lets Taehyung be as he fumbles with his phone, probably trying to contact his chauffer.
It was painful to see.
Seo-yun reaches out tentatively, hoping that her pheromones — though not what Taehyung seeks right now — would be enough.
"I'll come with you. Let me call them," she offers, because it's a no-brainer. Taehyung doesn't look like he should be going anywhere alone. "I can go home once you're with Hanbin."
Taehyung looks at her in mild panic, eyes blown out and out of his mind. Unbelieving as to why she'd even ask him that.
"Are you-are you sure?"
She nods, determined. "Absolutely".
They reach Hanbin's school in record time, a fancy fortress that feels like an uber fancy hotel.
Jungkook is waiting for them already, a crying Hanbin flying into Taehyung’s arms once he spots him.
If the alpha was angry before, he looks like he's craving blood now.
Of whoever who made his baby cry.
Turns out a kid had told Hanbin Taehyung wasn't his father, wasn't their alpha, and Hanbin had been the one to push the kid down. But they had retaliated, of course they had, and had pushed Hanbin right back.
There was a proper fight until a teacher had spotted the pups.
Which is how they've ended up here in the dean's office, Seo-yun hanging in the background while Taehyung yells and yells and yells.
If she was to guess, even Jungkook looked uncomfortable with the alpha's mood.
The other parents were a beta couple, seemingly well off but also clearly intimidated by an alpha fuming in their faces.
Hanbin was the only one unbothered, almost dozing off on Taehyung’s shoulder.
The other kid, thankfully, isn't in the room.
"How the hell am I supposed to let it go? My kid was injured-I don't care what anyone of you say-"
"Taehyung-ssi," the dean reasoned with them, nervous sweat dripping down his forehead. "I assure you, we take enough care of all our students. But Hanbin was the one who pushed his friend first-"
"So what?" Taehyung bellows again, cutting the older man off with a sneer. "He was clearly instigated first-"
"He shoved our kid!" the other mother yells. "Our baby was just defending himself-"
Taehyung's scent spikes, and everyone in the room more or less flinches. He ignores the woman to level the dean with another glare. "They ganged up on my kid and were practically bullying him. Is this how you treat students who stand up for themselves?"
Taehyung speaks so calmly now, it practically feels like a threat.
It is one, albeit indirectly placed.
"Taehyung-ssi, I assure you," the dean tries again. "We are doing our best-"
The alpha's eyes narrow dangerously.
Clearly, he doesn't agree.
Seo-yun all but regrets her decision to accompany him.
"Are you, Mr. Lee?" Taehyung demands. "Because all I can see is sloppy work here. Weren't a few parents complaining just a week ago?"
"Taehyung-ssi-"
But Taehyung wasn't done yet.
"I can get you all fired, Mr. Lee. You and your lovely staff members. You know that, right? None of you will work another day."
Okay. What the actual fuck-
The dean pales beyond belief, hands shaking as he glances towards Taehyung's omega for help.
It's a desperate cry to be saved if she's ever seen it.
And while Taehyung hasn't had enough, Jungkook certainly has.
The omega is up on his feet instantly, eyes wide and worried at his alpha's best friend's threat. He pulls the man back and away from the dean, trying to coax him out of his anger-filled stupor.
"Hyung," Jungkook pleads. "Look at me, please."
When Taehyung doesn't give in right away, the omega tugs even harder. It's what he says, low and barely a whisper, that has Seo-yun reeling further back.
"Taehyung, alpha, please-you need to calm down, okay?" Jungkook places one hand on Taehyung's, squeezing it in an attempt to calm him down.
"I need to calm down?" Taehyung questions. As if Jungkook's the crazy one.
But the omega refuses to back down. "You do, alpha. You'll scare even Hanbin at this rate. Listen to me, please. We'll go home and talk it out, okay?"
Jungkook says alpha like he says 'my love'. Like there's nothing else that even remotely matters but the three of them.
It's a private moment and they are whispering, but Seo-yun's sure everyone else can see and hear anyway.
And because Taehyung is an alpha who can never really say no this doe-eyed man he calls his best friend, Jungkook's victory is obvious.
It's insane, really.
Because if someone told the other parents Seo-yun was the girlfriend, they'd all but laugh at her face.

Seo-yun more or less avoids Taehyung after that.
And considering how wound up Taehyung was after the school incident, she's not sure she even notices.
In fact it's Jungkook who checks up on her once or twice, asking if she's coming over.
It's insane, but it's also expected of Jungkook.
Understanding, adorable Jungkook who offered to send her food when she was swamped with deadlines.
She wondered if Jungkook would get jealous of Taehyung's partners, but maybe he knew that Taehyung's path only ended with him, and he had nothing to really worry about.
Maybe he was so secure, he didn't care.
Deciding she's had enough of her hopeless pining and dooming, Seo-yun drops Taehyung a 'hey, we need to talk. I'll come over' before heading over without waiting for a response. She knows the alpha should be home, since he had told her so a week ago.
Seo-yun does consider breaking up over text, but it feels like too much.
And mildly disrespectful.
Once again, owing to her rotten luck, Seo-yun — upon reaching Taehyung's penthouse — realizes that she should have just done so over call. Why did she have to travel?
The security lets her in without delay, but when she reaches, none of the expected people (Taehyung, Jungkook or the imo who worked for them) was at the door.
Instead, she gets a tall, lanky man with dimples, smiling politely as he makes space for her to walk in.
She finds Taehyung on the couch, an ice pack to his face as he lays back with his eyes close.
What the actual fuck?
Taehyung startles once he senses her, standing in panic when she enters.
"Seo-yun? Did we-were we planning on meeting today?" the alpha asks.
Eyes focusing on the shiner on his eyes, Seo-yun can only gape as she remembers her answer. "No, I-I texted you. I needed to talk. I wasn't, uhm, I wasn't aware you're busy."
Despite himself, Taehyung flushes.
"You're here to break up with me," he states.
Seo-yun, surprised at his honesty, nods. "Yeah, I-I thought I should do it in person."
Taehyung nods in return, still a bit startled if not anything else. "That's-that's sweet of you."
How was this the same man who had charmed her on the day they met, she doesn't know.
The tall man in the room makes a reappearance then, smiling at her as he introduces himself as Taehyung's brother, Namjoon. Seo-yun smiles back because it's only polite.
"I'll be inside," he informs them, politely excusing himself so they can break up in peace.
In Seo-yun's defense, the break up's already done, so…
"That-" she says, pointing at the bruise on Taehyung's eye. "That's Jungkook-related, I'm assuming?"
Taehyung has the decency to be embarrassed about it. "Yeah," he says, but Seo-yun doubts she'll get more out of him. "I uh, I might have punched his ex when I was explicitly told not to."
Seo-yun finds herself letting out a scoff. "Serves him right if he hurt Jungkook, I guess."
Taehyung's eyes widen in surprise. "That's what I said!"
Seo-yun only laughs more. "I'm sure you did." And then: "Is he on his way back?"
Taehyung answers with an out-of-breath yes. "Yeah, he-he's not going to be happy about this."
Seo-yun smiles as she steps closer, shaking her head in amusement as she reaches her now-ex boyfriend. Tiptoeing, Seo-yun places a soft kiss on the alpha's cheek.
Taehyung's too frozen to react anyway.
"Goodbye, Taehyung," she says. "You take care of your boys, okay?"
Taehyung's smile is equal parts sweet and devastating. "Always."

When she receives an invitation to Jungkook and Taehyung's wedding a year later, Seo-yun can't say she's surprised.
At least, she tells Sara, she'll get to meet Agust D again.
