Chapter 1 — Neon Nights in Brightmoon City
Brightmoon City never really slept.
Even after midnight, the streets were alive with glowing neon signs, honking taxis, late-night food stands, and crowds of people chasing the last hours of freedom before morning arrived. Music spilled from open club doors, laughter echoed between tall buildings, and the whole city hummed with restless energy.
For some people, Brightmoon City was overwhelming.
For others—
It was opportunity.
Catra had come here for exactly that.
Opportunity.
She had graduated only a few months ago, finishing at the top of her class with grades that impressed even the strictest professors. Most of her classmates had already accepted safe office jobs or internships.
Catra didn’t want safe.
She wanted something bigger.
Something exciting.
So she packed her things, bought a used motorcycle, and moved to Brightmoon City without much of a plan.
Because if anything amazing was going to happen in her life—
It would happen here.
Tonight, she stood outside one of the most popular clubs in the downtown district, leaning casually against her motorcycle.
Purple neon lights glowed above the entrance while bass-heavy music pulsed through the walls.
Catra smirked.
“Looks promising.”
She pushed open the door and stepped inside.
---
The club was packed.
Lights flashed across the dance floor while the music vibrated through the entire building. People crowded the bar, shouted over the noise, and danced beneath swirling beams of colored light.
Catra walked straight to the bar and sat down.
“Whiskey,” she told the bartender.
The drink arrived quickly.
She took a slow sip and turned slightly, scanning the room.
Catra wasn’t really here to dance.
She liked watching people.
The energy of the crowd.
The strange personalities.
The chaos of a city that never slowed down.
Brightmoon was exactly what she hoped it would be.
She was halfway through her drink when she felt someone tap her shoulder.
Catra turned around.
And froze for a moment.
Standing behind her was a girl with bright pink hair and flushed cheeks.
Her balance was… questionable.
She swayed slightly where she stood.
Definitely drunk.
But she was also smiling confidently, like the entire room belonged to her.
She pointed directly at Catra.
“You.”
Catra raised an eyebrow.
“Me?”
The girl nodded firmly.
“Yes. You.”
She stepped closer and examined Catra’s face like she was studying something interesting.
Then she grinned.
“You’re really hot.”
Catra almost laughed.
Well.
That was one way to start a conversation.
The girl extended her hand dramatically.
“My name’s Glimmer.”
Glimmer.
Catra shook her hand.
“Catra.”
Glimmer tilted her head slightly, clearly impressed by something.
“You have a cool vibe.”
“Is that good or bad?”
“Very good.”
Then Glimmer leaned forward and asked the next question without hesitation.
“You wanna dance with me?”
Catra looked at her for a moment.
Bright pink hair.
Bold personality.
And an extremely confident smile.
Catra shrugged.
“Well… it would be rude to say no to a pretty girl.”
Glimmer lit up immediately.
“Exactly!”
She grabbed Catra’s hand and pulled her toward the dance floor.
---
The music was louder there.
Lights flashed across the room in waves of blue and purple.
Glimmer danced like someone who didn’t care what anyone thought.
Wild.
Energetic.
Completely fearless.
Catra couldn’t help smiling.
“You do this a lot?” she asked.
Glimmer spun once and pointed at her dramatically.
“Only when I see hot strangers.”
“Good to know.”
They danced for a while, moving with the rhythm of the music.
But Catra noticed something quickly.
Glimmer was very drunk.
She stumbled slightly.
Catra caught her arm.
A minute later she almost lost balance again.
Catra caught her again.
Finally she leaned closer.
“You okay?”
“Perfect!” Glimmer said proudly.
Then she nearly fell over.
Catra grabbed her before she hit the floor.
“…You’re definitely not perfect.”
Glimmer squinted at her.
“You’re very judgmental.”
“You’re very drunk.”
Glimmer waved dismissively.
“I’m fiiiiine.”
Catra sighed.
“Alright.”
“What?”
“Where do you live?”
Glimmer blinked slowly.
“Why?”
“So I can make sure you get home.”
Glimmer thought about it for a moment.
Then shrugged.
“I don’t remember.”
Catra stared at her.
“You don’t remember your own address?”
“Nope.”
Great.
Fantastic.
Catra rubbed the back of her neck.
“You shouldn’t be out alone like this.”
Glimmer smiled lazily.
“But I met you.”
“That wasn’t the plan.”
“Best plan ever.”
Catra shook her head.
This girl was impossible.
After another minute of watching Glimmer struggle to stand straight, Catra made a decision.
“Okay.”
Glimmer tilted her head.
“Okay what?”
“You’re not getting home alone tonight.”
Glimmer gasped dramatically.
“Scandalous.”
“Relax.”
Catra started guiding her toward the exit.
“You’re just staying at my place until you sober up.”
“Oh.”
Glimmer blinked.
Then smiled again.
“I like your place already.”
Catra laughed quietly.
“You haven’t even seen it.”
“I trust your vibe.”
---
Outside, the cool night air hit them immediately.
Glimmer blinked as the club noise faded behind them.
Catra grabbed her motorcycle helmet and gently placed it on Glimmer’s head.
“For safety.”
Glimmer giggled.
“You’re responsible.”
“Don’t get used to it.”
Catra helped her onto the bike before climbing on herself.
“Hold on.”
Glimmer wrapped her arms around Catra without hesitation.
---
The motorcycle roared to life beneath them, the vibration running through the frame as Catra pulled away from the curb and into the glowing streets of Brightmoon City.
Neon lights streaked past them as they sped through the night.
Behind her, Glimmer held onto Catra’s jacket tightly, though her balance was still slightly unsteady from the alcohol.
For a moment she was quiet.
Then the cool night wind rushed past them.
It brushed across her cheeks and tangled softly in her pink hair.
Glimmer lifted her head slightly, letting the air hit her face.
A soft laugh escaped her.
“Whoa…”
Her voice was half amazed, half delighted.
“This feels amazing.”
Catra glanced briefly in the mirror, amused.
“Still drunk?”
“Definitely,” Glimmer admitted happily.
But instead of complaining or getting dizzy, she leaned forward slightly, resting her head lightly against Catra’s back.
The wind rushed around them as the city lights blurred together.
Glimmer stretched one arm out slightly, feeling the cool air rush past her fingers.
“Your bike is really cool,” she said dreamily.
Catra smirked.
“Thanks.”
“And you drive fast.”
“Too fast?”
Glimmer shook her head immediately.
“No. It’s fun.”
She laughed again as the motorcycle sped through another long street lined with glowing buildings.
For someone who had been stumbling on the dance floor minutes ago, Glimmer suddenly looked completely relaxed.
The cold air seemed to wake her up just enough to enjoy the ride.
After a moment she spoke again, voice softer now.
“You know…”
Catra raised an eyebrow slightly.
“What?”
“I’m really glad I tapped your shoulder.”
Catra chuckled quietly.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
Glimmer hugged her a little tighter as the bike continued down the glowing roads of Brightmoon City.
“You’re a cool stranger.”
Catra couldn’t help smiling slightly as she accelerated again.
“Well,” she said, “you’re definitely the most interesting drunk person I’ve met tonight.”
Glimmer laughed loudly into the wind.
And for the rest of the ride, she simply enjoyed the feeling of the cool night air, the speed of the motorcycle, and the strange comfort of holding onto someone she had only met a few minutes ago.
