    Bucky struggles harder, then ends up rolling to the ground until Seve has him in a hold, his arm against Bucky's neck, choking him.

    Bucky shuts his eyes tight, opens them, does it again. He lets the lack of oxygen go to his mind, waits until it goes fuzzy around the edges, waits until he can feel the sting from his arm being pulled… then taps the floor.

    Steve rolls off him in an instant but it doesn't matter because Bucky knows now. He's safe. He can't be forced to hurt again if Steve can hold him down. He gets up to his knees and laughs, cries from the sheer relief of it.

    Bucky needs to know that he's safe from himself. Steve understands.
