BREAKING: Shane Hollander to join Ottawa Centaurs
Shane Hollander, formerly Captain of the Montreal Voyageurs, shocked the hockey world earlier this year by choosing not to renew his contract with the team who drafted him and instead going into free agency. Now we know where he is going: Hollander, who won the Stanley cup three times as a captain with the Voyageurs (2015, 2016 and 2020), will be joining the Ottawa Centaurs on an eight year contract for 81 million. It will be a homecoming for the Ottawa native who played for the Centaurs in his youth.
John Miles @JohnMiles
Interesting choice by Hollander. The money is good, but it's hard to believe that Montreal wouldn't have matched that.
Go Voyageurs! @VoyageursMike

That traitor can go fuck himself. No loyalty whatsoever, after all that Montreal did for him!

The money is NOT that good. What the fuck does he want in Ottawa!?!?

Ottawa is honestly going to be stacked next year. Rozanov, Barrett, Hayes, that Swiss kid Haas is doing really well, and now Hollander? They could be genuine cup contenders.

we're so fucked without Hollander. he carried us so hard to those cups, don't even want to think about next season.
Mark @markiemark
Replying to @JohnMiles
Do we know who gets the C yet? Rozanov has been doing a good job for the Centaurs, and he did win that one cup for Boston in 2014, but Hollander has led the Voyageurs to three cups. Will be interesting how Wiebe navigates that.

Do we know if his parents are okay? The move doesn't really make sense from a sporting perspective (he literally just won a cup last year) or a monetary perspective (the money is good, but not that good). So maybe it's a personal thing? If either of his parents is sick, I get it.

Good riddance. We're better without that fairy!

First of all, get that slur out of my timeline. Secondly, have you been watching hockey for the past years? Hollander is the only reason we won the cup!!! Whenever he's injured, the team performance just drops. Without him, we are so fucking done.

First of all, I'd like to thank the Montreal Voyageurs. I was allowed to play for you for ten brilliant years, eight of those as your captain. It was an amazing time, and I genuinely do not know where I'd be without you, both the team and the fans. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
The move to Ottawa is not a choice I made lightly. Ultimately, it is a personal decision. I want to be able to be closer to my partner and parents, and Ottawa allows me that. Not to mention, Ottawa is an amazing team. I've played for the Centaurs in my youth, and I am very happy to be back, and help my hometown team fight for the Stanley Cup. Therefore, thank you, Ottawa, for giving me this chance.

Tom Wilkes @TomWilkesJournalist
Interesting that Hollander so openly states that the move to Ottawa is a personal decision. He cites wanting to be closer to his family and partner, but I wonder if that is the whole truth. There have been rumors about the Montral locker room for a while now. Supposedly, it's a bit of a toxic atmosphere.

Replying to @TomWilkesJournalist
Interesting point, though, about the locker room. You'd think that the guy who won the Voyageurs three cups would get the hero treatment, but those rumors about a split in the team really have been around for a while. What I don't get is why Ottawa. His parents have come out and said the move was not about them needing help or anything like that, and there must have been a ton of teams that would have offered even more money?
talking puck @hockeyfan101
Replying to @mariariariaira
Maybe it's because Ottawa is a real challenger now? It is his hometown team, he clearly holds some affection for them. And Ottawa actually got into the second round of the playoffs now, add Hollander to that lineup and they could really do it.
Mark @markiemark
Replying to @hockeyfan101
It's a risk, though? In Montreal he was the captain, no questions asked. In Ottawa he'll have to fight Rozanov for it. And really, I think we need to consider that angle more: Hollander and Rozanov publicly buried the hatched, but does that mean they can play on the same team?
maria hates maths @mariariariaira
Replying to @markiemark
I'd like to say yes, especially thinking back to All Stars 2017, but it's a valid point. All Stars is just for fun, and all the players know that. Can Rozanov put his ego aside to play alongside Hollander? Can Hollander do the same?
talking puck @hockeyfan101
Replying to @mariariariaira
Hollander doesn't strike me as someone with a big ego, but there is the question of who will center the first line. Both Hollander and Rozanov have good arguments on their side. And, like you say, can they work together? They've only ever played against each other when it mattered.
Mark @markiemark
Replying to @hockeyfan101
Hollander might be a humble guy, but he is one of the absolute top athletes in this sport and he knows it. Of course the guy has an ego.
talking puck @hockeyfan101
Replying to @markiemark
Point. And there is still the captaincy debate. Like, I really want them to be able to work it out, because a team with Hollander and Rozanov is just absolutely insane, but it is a valid concern.
maria hates maths @mariariariaira
Replying to @hockeyfan101
Don't forget that Rozanov build that team, too. Like, he put in the work. In 2017, the Cens were nowhere, and now they actually made the playoffs. Roz might feel put out about Hollander joining and stealing all the spotlight.
talking puck @hockeyfan101
Replying to @mariariariaira
Also true. Ultimately, we'll just have to wait. No point speculating until we see the first preseason games and actually get a feeling for their dynamic.
