Summary
“I saw you on the ship, didn’t I?” the vampire asks, and Althea nods as much as she’s able, “Splendid. Now you’re going to tell me exactly what you and those tentacled freaks did to me.”
“I didn’t do anything, friend. They captured me just as they did you,” Althea responds evenly.
“Don’t lie to me! I–” the vampire cuts off with a groan, and Althea feels why. A sharp pain behind her eye, and then she isn’t seeing out of her own eyes at all. It takes a moment to realize this is his memory. A dark, busy alleyway. Prowling. Hunting. Then fear. So much fear. Fear of the worm, of the sunlight. Oh, she thinks, he’s terrified. She’s made the right decision then, in sparing him. That’s comforting. Their minds pull apart.
...
Althea is not having a very good day. Kidnapped, infected, and unceremoniously dumped onto the beach amidst piles of flaming wreckage. On top of it all, her beloved druid is missing, and her new companions are an…eclectic bunch. Althea needs to find her friend and solve her party’s problem before they all start developing tentacles and a sudden craving for brains. And she needs to figure out the vampire problem while she’s at it.
